I wanted a lightweight "puffer" type jacket and after researching them and even trying some others, I opted to try this one. The large was too small across the chest (the exchange was quick and efficient). I usually buy large, comfortably. My LLBean 850 down is a large, so it may just be how this item is cut. The XL is a roomy large but not so roomy that it's loose. I have been testing it in different levels of cold weather (Chicago) and am impressed. It is weird to get used to how light it feels on me and how little of a barrier it feels like, but it's a total wind blocker and it's warm! Especially when I get moving. It has done well in misty, drizzly weather. Put a vest, sweater or fleece under it (why you don't want to go with a tight size on this) and you can go pretty well into the 20's if you are active. In fact, on warmer days, it can even be a little warm. I took it to Nevada, around 6,500 feet where the temps ranged from 70 in the sun at mid day to 30ish at night and it was perfect. It's great on planes too. Not too hot to sleep in but easily keeps you cozy if the cabin is chilly. It's well designed in terms of pockets, zippers, elastic closures. I especially like the collar which is high enough to do a real job, accommodate a fleece vest collar under it, or on its own, even fold down. Overall, it won't be your cozy, snuggly coat, but it's a great item and will definitely be my main variable weather travelling jacket.

This jacket is great for Mid-Atlantic's winters. Keeps me warm and dry when doing my morning and evening walks outside. The jacket is also light weight that you can roll it up and stuff it in your backpack or shoulder bag. I plan to bring it with me when I go skiing this winter to use before/after skiing. I bought a size larger so that I could bundle up underneath if it got colder than anticipated.

Very light weight but warm enough. Light rain beads up on fabric.

Great jacket for the winter. We have had some cooler temperatures the last few days and the jacket kept me warm (temps in the low teens).
Light weight jacket and fits perfectly. I am not a big guy so the medium is true to size.
Getting in and out of the car experience no pulling like some of the jackets I have had.

This jacket is perfect for late fall/early spring in Chicagoland. Well made like all LL Bean products and is incredibly light. When I tried it on in store I never thought it would hold up to rain, wind and cold because how how light weight it is, but it exceeded all expectations.
I wear large (in traditional fit) in most Bean clothes, but needed XL for this coat as it's slightly fit. Folds up small into its own pocket which is great for travel.
Awesome product as always from LL Bean!

Great color selection, well made, perfect fit. And it is packable! This jacket is great for vacations where you are not sure of the weather. It's not bulky so it fits perfectly in a suitcase without taking up a lot of room. Keeps you warm too.

I've just ordered my THIRD Primaloft Packaway Jacket. Why? Because I've lost the other two. They pack into such a convenient bundle that I left one on an airplane, where it doubled as a lombar support, and I left another in the back of a hotel drawer. My fault--and I love this convenient, packable insulating layer.

Light, warm and packable. As good as it gets for this type of garment, imo.

My husband finally agreed to get this jacket after he saw me wear mine last winter without a complaint. Like others he didn't think it would be warm enough but surprisingly it was. Most of our vacations are up north and he wanted to replace his old bulky jacket. This will work for him! Thank you LLBean!

I, like some others, thought that they had left the insulation out. It is so thin and light. But It's wonderful. Very warm and comfortable. Don't know how they do it. Recommend

The jacket is lightweight as promised and is warm as promised. The zippers on the pockets are helpful. The main zipper works smoothly.

I purchased it for a light packable jacket I can wear to the golf course early in the morning and easily store it if I get too hot later in the round. It is light but warm. I live in southern CA and I can't imagine this jacket keeping you warm in below zero weather. It's a little tapered but no so much that I can't play golf. I did have to go on YouTube to find out how to fold it up in it's pocket. I was surprised there wasn't instructions in the package. Anyway I like the jacket for my needs. I bought two one XX large tall and sent that one back as it was too big.

Liked it very much. Fit good. Not as warm as I expected but good for Central
Texas and a liner for other jackets.

The jacket is amazingly warm for its weight and thickness. Runs perhaps a bit small, but that could be a good thing if one was using it as a middle layer. However, it serves well as an outer jacket, too. While it would be quite at home in any casual setting, I use it primarily for hiking. With a thermal under shirt and flannel shirt layer underneath, the jacket was plenty warm at 25 degrees. And, as it is quite packable, it stores easily in my backpack when temps demand I shed a layer. Very nice jacket. Highly recommend.

This is my second Primaloft packaway jacket from L.L. Bean. My older packaway is 5 years old, and still holds up, I just wanted another one in a different color. This updated version has quickly become my favorite.
They've added a huge second chest pocket on the inside -the packaway pocket- and the jacket is now being made with recycled materials for the lining. With that fact, I'm able to boast when people compliment this jacket (San Francisco resident).
I've purchased a few of these jackets over the years as gifts for friends and family. The consensus: they're probably wearing them right now.
I will continue to buy this item for myself and others, and I recommend trying it out if you're on the fence, but you'll probably end up buying more than one anyway!

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend, and he likes it a lot! He likes the zippered pockets and the fit (he has long arms). It isn't too thick, so he can wear it under another jacket in inclement weather (20 degrees and lower), but thick enough to be a good outer layer when the weather is a little warmer (30-40 degrees). The red color isn't too bright, it is a nice brick red color. If we needed another one, we would order another one!

By far this is the BEST winter coat I have ever owned! the cost was more then any winter Jacket owned but we save almost 50% with discounts and loyalty points. The comfort level and fit is 10/10; the warmth it retains is MORE then expected and much better for colder TEMPS. I over heat easily, so 40+ degrees I will take over shortly after putting jacket on. EVERYTHING about this jacket is truly a 10/10- even how it can pack up into a small oval!!
PLEASE try these jackets! it can even fit a work out vest under it! great colors to choose from, snazzy look, recommend to ALL! This years SNOW Blizzard across the USA has put the jacket to the TEST and PAST!!!
FYI LLBEAN WEBSITE WONT LET ME LOAD A PHOTO :)

I got the navy with orange zipper in a medium for Christmas, and it was a bit large so we downsized to a small. Small is perfect on his slim frame. It's a very sharp looking jacket. We affectionately call it his formula 1 jacket, as he looks like a race car driver in it - in a good way! Thought the price was high, but it's well worth the price. It's high quality and looks expensive. He says warm for how it's ultra light weight. He's picky and he loves this jacket!

I bought this jacket as a mid layer for winter hiking and as an emergency jacket for summer hiking. So far have worn it on two winter hikes as a static mid-layer while on Adirondack peaks. It weighs nothing but is extremely warm. I have also worn it out in the winter on mid twenties temp days and it warm enough for a car to store jacket. Very impressed

I personally own 3 items from LL Bean over the years and I've always been satisfied with the quality of their products. And this is no different. Very comfortable. Warm. Perfect as a layering jacket in the winter or by itself in cooler temps.
