I just got back from testing these boots for a week on a ski trip to the Adirondacks, so I'm ready to finally review them. Originally, I bought a size 11 which is my typical boot size, but the other reviews are correct (as well as the sizing advice which I missed on LLBean's website) that you should purchase Bean Boots one size smaller than you typically wear. I don't know why the sizing is so strange, but it's true. Once the correct size boots were shipped, I tried them on and they fit really well. They ship them with a gel insole, which I removed to put my own orthopedic insoles inside instead and it worked just as well with them. The thinsulate insulation is only in the footbed of the boots, but since this is the area that actually touches the cold ground and comes in contact with the rubber soles, it actually worked really well. I was tromping around in snow and ice and my feet were toasty warm and completely dry the entire week. Make sure you were nice thick wool or wool-blend socks with them and your feet will thank you. The boots were very comfortable the entire time, though you will have to break in the leather uppers a little. The handmade construction is quite durable and I appreciate that they are made in America by American workers using American-sourced materials. Very few places do that anymore. Honestly, these are the best boots I have ever worn and I plan to keep them for a long time. LL Bean even had their own repair shop to repair the boots for you if you ever need anything done (like a resoling from wearing the rubber bottoms out years and years from now.) Highly recommended!

These were the first pair of boots my son has had and he just loves them and says he wishes he would have gotten them sooner.

I ordered these shoes for myself. I have wider feet so I ordered Wide (EE) selection and I'm so happy for that. Not every brand includes that option for their winter boots. The insole of the boots are so comfortable, at the end of the day you don't feel rushed to take them off. The rubber sole is very sturdy, you don't slip over ice. I highly recommend it.

I've lived in Maine all of my life and at 37 just got my first pair of Bean Boots. I've only worn them a few times but they're the cat's behind. I needed something to wear out to the grocery store or just to wear to work on the colder days when sneakers aren't the best option. They're comfortable, length and width are true to size but the only issue I see is the top is a bit loose, which really isn't an issue if I'd wear wool socks, but I'm stubborn and only bust those out when it's below zero. Once I break them in more I'll probably be fine but that's the only problem had. They grip well in snow and on slippery surfaces and apparently they're fashionable. I'm not in the least bit fashionable, but the boots are. They also accent my beard well.

We love these boots and pass them down through our family as our kids grow. They run large (an entire size big) so beware!

I normally wear a size nine wide shoe. I ordered the size 8 wide and they fit great. I like the Thinsulate insulation this boot has. Wearing a medium weight Marino wool sock my feet have stayed warm in temperatures as low as 30 deg F. They are very easy to get on and off. Doing just normal task around town I wear the with the laces loose. For walking longer distances tightening the laces gives me good foot support. I water proofed them using Snow Seal. Following the directions made getting the wax into the seams and leather easy. It did darken the leather to a rich brown color. I would recommend these boots to family and friends. I hope to get years of use from these iconic boots. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

I usually wear a size 12 shoe for many brands; however I had ordered size 11 for LL Bean's Waterproof boots. It's a perfect fit! I actually used these boots in New Jersey in the late autumn when we had a snow storm in Mid November. The boots performed as advertised; waterproof, warm and I really like the classic looks. I will always own a pair of these boots...highly recommended.

I wear a shoe size of 11.5 and ordered the boots in size 10 and they fit perfect. The thinsulate keeps your feet warm in cold rain and snow. I wear mine with athletic socks and they fit just right. After you break them in, big warm winter socks will also fit if you like to wear those. All around great pair of boots and glad I made the purchase. Stylish as well (I got the all brown ones).

These were the first boots/shoes I have ever purchased from LL Bean but they will not be the last. So far they have been everything other reviewers have claimed them to be. They are very well made, they fit great, and they are very comfortable even when wearing for long periods of time. With winter approaching I will be putting these to good use often.

These boots are great, very warm, no complaints from me. I would recommend trying them on in store if you love near an LL Bean. I normally wear a size 10 and ended up getting an 8 in these. The 9's would have been ok but they were a bit too long. The 8's were snug at first but after wearing for a few weeks they fit great.

I bought these boots on a Friday and received them the following Tuesday and to be completely honest these are the perfect boots I immediately put these on out the box and they fit perfect I'm a size 9 1/2 and got them in a 9 and the fit just right. Even with medium to light socks there incredibly warm and the quality it top notch. Great job bean

I bought a pair of LL Bean boots abut 15 years ago. Still going strong and still keeping my feet dry and warm. Will now pass on the tradition of having LL Bean boots to our son. Bought him his first pair. He was very excited to get them and amazed at the quality. Now with winter upon us, he is very, very happy to have a pair of very warm and comfortable boots! Highly recommend these boots.

These are great! I had to try these today for the first time. Feet stayed dry and the insulation is perfect. My feet did not get cold at all. I wasn't sure whether or not to get the insulated version and so happy I did. These boots are incredible! Thank you, L.L. Bean!

I'm at size 7 in most shoes and I was hesitant what size to get because I've read the reviews but my 7 fits great. I don't wear them with super thick socks most days and I still find them fitting nicely. Plus, they're actually kinda comfortable and I didn't have a problem breaking them in! Would recommend for a cold weather and wet weather boot.

Overall, I love this shoe and how well it allows me to handle the elements. It's very much waterproof, and while I've only utilized for rain-to-date, I look forward to wearing in the snow.

I bought these boots with the knowledge that many people swear by L.L. Bean. I would highly recommend these as winter boots. They kept my feet warm and dry, they looked great, and they were easy to take care of.

It took me longer to decide on purchasing the right rain/light snow boot than it took me to buy our last car. I did extensive research on various boots, watched the pricing and finally called to talk about the sizing recommendation. I don't mind paying higher price for great quality. Knowing that the boots are made in the US was important - I like helping local communities where the money stays in the community and I appreciate that these weren't transported from overseas where work and material standards are lower. There's also the environmental impact of buying relatively more locally. The boot itself is large in length, so I needed to be sure a 9" would fit my 10 1/2" foot. Unfortunately, the extra wide is narrower than most extra wides measurements. It would be nice if LL Bean would calibrate their machines to make the wide just a little wider. I won't be able to wear wool socks with the boots, but I did order the boots with thinsulate for extra warmth. It took a few wearings for the rubber to give just the right amount to feel comfortable, but it worked out well. For good measure, LL Bean even sent a size larger to see if my foot would fit better in the right places with a slight deviation in where it fell inside the boot. Trust their advice that these run a size larger. Trying on a size 10" made me feel like a kid with very small feet, so I returned the extra pair and hope someone will get good life out of them. I love these boots. I wish I had ordered them at the beginning of the rain season rather than the end, but C'est la vie. Thanks LL Bean!

Went to an LL Bean store and wanted to get a pair of bean boots. I originally asked for the non-thinsulate version but didn't have my size. They were running a sale of 15% off so decided to go with the thinsulate version and am happy I did. I usually wear a size 9 but definitely had to size down. I went with the wide width as the standard with was too narrow. Fit was perfect and have enough room to wear thin or thick socks with no issues. Shipping was fast and arrived as stated. Have worn it a couple of times and very comfortable and requires no break in imo. Very happy with the purchase and everyone definitely needs at least one pair of bean boots in their closet!

I bought these for my son and he absolutely loves them.

This is a quality boot. At first the regular was to tight. Exchanged for the wider version and they fit better. The size chart was accurate, but having a 9 1/2 size foot I could have tried the regular size for comfort. I would buy these again if I ever need another pair.
