My son loves them, wears them to school to and from classes. Keeps his feet warm and dry, also very fashionable at his college campus in Boulder, CO.

I was a bit worried, because the video said go a size "down"...Yikes, I was so tempted to keep it at my size. But I obeyed! and when I received my boots, they "FIT" pretty awesome. I used them for the first time in Montreal, and the weather was perfect! the boots were perfect...can't wait to use them with my snow-blower...and possibly some ice-fishing! Thank LL Bean and "Bobby" who hand-crafted them

Very quick service. Came in the mail earlier than expected. My son loves these boots. He goes to college in a mountain area and everyone wears these boots for the snow and rain. He even wears them in nice weather. He said they are very comfortable. He got a smaller size then he regularly wears. He usually wears a size 12, but ordered an 11 and they fit perfectly. Thank you for good quality items.

These boots came 2 days earlier than expected with free shipping AND a discount. When they arrived, the packaging was undamaged and secure. The boots fit perfectly if you follow the LL Bean sizing recommendation (click "important size information" when choosing your size for advice). If you follow their advice, I guarantee you will love your boots. They look and feel great!

Just received my Men's Bean Boot today. The best investment I've ever made in winter footwear. Comfortable, lightweight, and appear to be rugged as they come. Don't know why I never purchased a pair years ago. I highly recommend them to anyone wishing a tough pair of extremely well made pair of boots.

Great boot, I have looked at them for a couple years and finally decided to make the purchase. The only frustration is that I did not buy them sooner. Day one I wore them in the pouring and freezing rain and my feet stayed dry and warm. PS the personalized note in the box simply shows that LL Bean goes the extra step on customer service.

I followed the advice in the catalog about getting the proper fit, 1 size smaller than your normal size. The boots fit perfectly. Very comfortable. These are not clodhopper boots. They are light, not heavy, and easy to wear. The best boot I have ever owned. HIghly recommendt to anyone who wants a well made, comfortable, dry boot.

I have plenty of L.L. Bean apparel, but I never had Bean Boots before this winter. When it was time to buy new boots, I knew what I was going with. I originally purchased the standard eight inch boot in a size 11, but they were far too big on me, even with thick wool socks. When the originals were back-ordered, I decided to go with the "thinsulated" in a size 10. I was initially very worried about how I would like the thinsulation; concerned that it might be too warm, etc. When I received the boots, the first thing I did was inspect the insulation. Some people complain about it (or lack thereof) but I do not seem to have an issue. It is a layer of almost pillow-like padding lining the entire sole and toe area of the boots (so not the leather uppers), and adds some layering to the inside of the boot. Initially they hurt my feet, but after three-four days of wearing them all day they are starting to break in and are quite comfortable. I wore them with thick wool socks for a 20-minute walk in 50 degree weather, and was not uncomfortable or sweaty when I removed them at home, which is a tremendous plus. I am sure they will keep my feet warm during the snowier parts of the year. As they are breaking in they are starting to fit my feet nicely, my only complaint is that the leather upper is somewhat too large and leaves some extra material in the ankle area, but that should be less of an issue as it breaks in. Other than that, I love these boots. You can really appreciate the hand-made craftsmanship that went into them and they are incredibly sturdy. My only complaint is that the trademark 'Bean Boots' stamp on the heel has already started to wear off a little after not a lot of use, i'm kind of a stickler for those things. All things considered, if you need boots, buy these and don't think twice.

Just received my pair of Bean Boots in 3 days to Quebec from the order date. Now that's fast customs! I have rather large size 11 feet with skinny ankles, huge arches and wide front spread. 99.9% of my existing boot end up unlaced as they are too tight up front but too loose in the heel area causing blistering and rubbing. I have been drooling for a pair of Bean Boots for quite some time so when they arrived today I was a kid in a candy store jumping into them immediately. They grip my ankles securely, are warm, great grip on ice and in snow, yet have the width needed due to it's flexible design to spread out a little to not crush my toes. I look forward to years of pleasurable use. Also the chocolate upper looks better than the web photo in the store. Thanks L.L.Bean!

Regardless of size adjustments people are suggesting, if you are a true EE, order the EE, if they are still in stock!!! I was suprised how light they are...almost like wearing a slipper. I wear double socks...nylon then a medium weight boot sock. I can wiggle my toes!!! If you can wiggle your toes, they will not get cold. I am sure they will perform nicely when the snow flies. So dont monkey around...if you need an EE...order true to size...legnth too.

I'm not entirely sure if Ernest Hemmingway wore LL Bean boots, or was even aware of the company - however, if he were, these would be the boots to match his sole. Rugged, durable, and thick on the exterior - yet soft, pliable, and deep on the interior. Much like my well-worn copy of "A Farewell to Arms", these boots will incur both my enjoyment and pleasure, as well as nature's cruel wrath. Mine are the color of whiskey, or rather a fine bourbon, not unlike an iced glass of Woodford reserve, with the sole being the color of warm cocoa on a brisk November evening, embers dancing around the laces and leather glowing by the fireplace. I'm truly walking in "The Garden of Eden" when wearing these boots. Oh, and they run big. I wear a 9 1/2-10. I called the company and spoke to a delightful woman named Sue who recommended i order an 8, seeing as I live in NYC and generally wear thin to medium socks. They are an absolute perfect fit.

great fit + looks, very comfortable pair of boots. Just one thing...order a smaller size than usual (as LBean recommends) or maybe more. Otherwise...I'll recommend it.

Not that these boots really need another review! But I thought I'd add a little more information regarding fit that I found difficult to find when I was getting ready to order on-line. I'll start by saying that these boots are terrific as advertised. They seem well made, and the materials and fabric are top notch. I've had them a month and worn them 6 or so times, but had my first snow/slush-storm yesterday, and the walk to daycare and then to work was a non-issue. Warm, dry and comfortable feet was what I was expecting, and that's what I got. Regarding fit: I have high volume feet, not particularly wide, except at the little toe, which sticks out a lot for whatever reason. I typically hover between 10 and 10.5 for my shoes. I opted for the size 9 EE. It was the correct call. The boots are long and narrow, even the EE width. I'm comfortable in them, but someone with properly wide feet might want the to try before they buy. I'm going to be wearing them pretty much most of the winter walking about 4 miles a day. I'm hoping the claimed ruggedness will be as described, but for now, I have no reason to doubt it.

This is my fifth pair of Bean Boots, this time insulated. I was concerned about the fit of lined boots, especially with the foot problems I have. The EE width accommodated the heavy wool Bean socks well. They felt comfortable and warm the entire day, on a cold, wet day in the field. Thanks to Sandia and Bean Boot Team.

I recently rediscovered a forgotten 22-year old pair of 8" Thinsulate Bean Boots (then labeled Maine Hunting Shoe) that still has lots of life left on both bottoms and uppers. A comparison with my 10" 100th Anniversary (non-Thinsulate) Maine Hunting Shoes indicates the overall quality of workmanship and materials is virtually identical. As LL Bean explains the more modern rubber bottoms have superior construction they seem to have less lateral twist than the 22-year old version, which helps with footing on uneven ground but otherwise the fit seems identical and the only design difference is that the bootstrap loops at the top of upper on the older boots is more compact and doesn't extend above the rest of the upper which IMO provides a neater look than the current version.. I wore my rediscovered 8" Thinsulates along with LL Bean Ragg Socks in this morning's unseasonably single-digit cold moving about, not standing still and they provided the same warm, snug fit I enjoyed when they were new in 1992. My primary use for these will likely be as "just in case" gear in my car for trips over mountain passes this winter. Anyway, just posting this so that prospective buyers of this boot can be confident that their purchase will hold up well and provide excellent service in moderately cold weather for many years. If you'll be sitting still or out in extremely cold conditions then consider other models that use thicker removable Thinsulate or felt liners.

This review is to address the Dark Ash color. For those of you who have been looking for the 8" brown bean boot, these are it. See the attached photo. The photo shown on the website is not a good representation of what these look like. The thinsulate is certainly warm. I followed Bean's suggestions and sized down (normally wear a 9 but got an 8). These fit perfectly and with regular socks on. I can even wear them untied and the heel won't slip. With thick boot socks on, I imagine these will be pretty snug. But I doubt thick socks will be necessary to keep your feet warm in these since the thinsulate does the trick. Bottom line, if you are like me and were searching for the 8" brown Bean Boot, these are it.

I had a pair of these in high school, and they lasted me 15 years, and they would have lasted longer had they not been "pilfered" by a good friend who borrowed them. I recently had the need to get another pair of warm, waterproof, winter boots...I did my research to see what else might have been available, and ended up coming back to the original bean boot 8" thinsulate as my choice...and I'm glad I did...they fit wonderfully. I wear an 11.5 shoe, 12 in most cowboy boots, and thanks to the help of the LL Bean customer service, i settled on a size 11 boot, and it fits perfectly. These boots are still fairly new, but quality appears to be just as good as I remember my old ones being. Good arch support, full thinsulate lining in the rubber part of the boot. These boots keep my feet warm and dry in snow, mud, etc, and the treads clean out easily. I would recommend these boots to anyone that needs a wet/cold weather boot down to 10 degrees or so. Consider the more insulated boots if it gets colder than that. It pays to talk on the phone or online to an LL Bean representative to discuss your shoe size and width, as the conversation I had led to a perfect order. Do your research on other brands of "duck" boots, as I found that many of them cost just as much as the Bean Boots, but do not hold up in the long run.
