So although I haven't had a chance to wear them in the rain or snow yet, I've tried them on and know that they'll keep my feet snug and warm. I looked around for months for a good quality boot that looked nice and was unsuccessful. My advice is to order your winter boots now, because it does take a while. They're very popular and could take 3 months to get to you because they're hand made. But it's SO worth it!!!

I wear a size 11 shoe (sometimes even 11.5) I ordered the size 11, (8'' Thinsulate Bean Boot) and it was a size too large, even with the official bean boot sock. I was lucky enough to have my local store exchange me to the proper size of 10. It fits like a glove. LISTEN TO ME AND SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE! ORDER A SIZE DOWN! Not everyone will be as lucky as I was! If you opt to be stubborn and order your normal size, you'll be waiting and kicking yourself with your cold, "bean boot-less" foot wishing you listened to me.

This was a replacement pair for my husband who had his last pair of these for over 20 years. The only reason he needed new was because the tread was wearing. They still looked new. Excellent boot. Worth every penny. Highly recommend.

When the package arrived, I told him its for you. When he opened the box, tried on the boots and walked around the house and yard trying them out. He loved the fit, feel and the fact that they are LLBean and made by LLBean in Maine. Thanks for a great quality, USMade item. We love LLBean

My husband is very pleased with the fit and quality of these boots. They arrived a couple of days ago; apparently there was a backlog in production so they won't be put to the test in bad weather until next winter. They went on easily, even with thick, heavy socks and he clumped around the house for a while with a huge smile on his face. He was happy with the arch support which is always an issue with less well made shoes. The only suggestion he would make (so far) is to add a thick padded top to keep the snow out. So very nice to see they are made in the USA which was a huge determining factor in the purchase, as well.

My husband loves the boots. He would have liked to have a lined pair like mine but the 8" boots aren't available lined. The boots were back ordered for some time and LLBean sent a cute boot ornament as a gesture of thanks for waiting so long. The gift came "postage due" which was pretty funny... We got a good laugh out of that. ?

They are excellent! Definitely high-quality, seem to be very durable, comfortable. I ordered with the thinsulate and they seem to be warm - they came in March, which isn't real cold here, so I'll have to wait till next Winter to know for sure. And the description of the sizing was correct. I usually wear a size 12 with shoes, but ordered a size 11 for my boots and they fit great with the regular, thin to medium thickness socks I wear. So the sizing worked for me. Glad I waited instead of jumping to another product. I ordered them in later December and received them in mid-March (originally it said they would come late April, so they came well before the date I was given). I know this may sound like a long wait, but I really do think it is worth it. And I loved the card saying who made the shoe and knowing they are made right here in the USA. Thanks, Mabel for your work!

I ordered these for my husband after his previous pair didn't survive a house fire. Since he has rather short, wide feet, he can't often find shoes of any kind that fit, but these do. They came fairly quickly, and he put them on at once to go shovel snow--and has had no trouble with them.

The 8" boot with thinsulate is a perfect boot; it's well made, light weight and great for year-around wear. After an extensive search for a similar boot, all I was able to find were heavy and clunky boots that were made primarily for winter wear. Everything is great about this boot. The ordering process and customer service was also very satisfactory, but unfortunately, it took over 3-months to get to me due to it being back-ordered. Long story short...the product was worth the wait.

I previously purchased these boots in a size that was not a proper fit for me. I put off returning them longer than I should have. But, true to their promise, the good folks at LLBean made the exchange seamless and without problem even with my delay, no receipt, etc. My new boots arrived sooner than expected with a full credit for the return of the old ones. Even if I could buy these type boots somewhere else, I would not even consider it. They are of excellent quality. They stand up to virtually any condition and they last forever. For me, the fact that they're made in the US is also very important. But beyond all that, LLBean stands behind them and their word. There are many companies that talk customer service. But very few, if any, that live up to their promises like LLBean. I'm proud to call myself a loyal customer.

So from growing up in Aroostook, County ME, these boots were vital, especially when hunting out in the woods. everyone in my family has got a pair! When we moved to ohio I decided I'd get a pair with the thinsulate but i saw they were backordered until june 28th, so what i did was i called up the freeport store and ordered a pair over the phone, only took 3 days too get to me out in Ohio! I normally wear a 10.5 but I was instructed to wear a 10, and it was a fantastic option, i've got enough room it seems so just in case i need to wear a pair of heavy thick wool socks there will be enough space but it's not too much space! I would suggest, at least for the thinsulate, if you wear a half size order a a half size down (10.5--> 10) and unless your feet are VERY wide keep it at the normal width.

My old unisulated Bean boots were 30 plus years old, I wore them on average three months out of the year and four days a week and had them repaired twice, now that's great service! The new boots are insulated and the advise on size was spot on. I wear 10 1/2 in other boots and was advised to purchase size 10 wide they fit awesome and I have been wearing them 7 days a week they are so comfortable! When I ordered the boots the first of January they were on back order until the end of Febuary they showed up the first week in March and it was worth the wait. I can't wait until I can save to order the slippers! Maine Hunting Shoes are the best!

These are the first pair of Bean Boots I have owned. What a pleasure they were during the winter months; warm, waterproof (mine were Gore-Tex), and comfortable. The only drawback I can list (and it might have been unique to my particular pair) was the sensation of my socks bunching up near the heel, as if they had migrated down. I found it to be a function of the lining, and it gradually disappeared. I wore these daily, and as strange as it sounds, I'm going to miss wearing them since Spring has arrived. Needless to say, when we reach the winter season this year, I'll be quickly reaching for these boots. Should have bought these years ago. A note on the fit: I ordered these per Bean's recommendations, and they were too narrow. I believe it was because mine had the Thinsulate insulation which took up extra space. Sent the first pair back and exchanged them for a wide width. Perfect.

I have had these types of boots before but never from LL Bean. I read where these run large and they do. I wear 11.5 to 12 normally but size 10 Bean boots fit me perfectly. Very well made very comfortable. Without doubt a boot in a class by itself. No other comes close.

This are good looking boots, but the sizing guidelines didn't work for my husband. He wears an 8 1/2 or 9 in shoes and had to return them for a 9 instead of going with the recommended size 8. Looking forward to getting the bigger ones before next winter........

I purchased these in "Dark Ash" in November 2014 and waited for the worst of winter to be over before giving them a rating, and honestly I've been blown away. The boot looks fantastic (I like that it isn't the typical bean boot color) and fits perfectly with a good pair of wool socks. They will keep your feet warm well below zero for an hour or two and dry unless water comes over the top of the boot. I have worn mine daily since the day I purchased them and I couldn't be happier! However, if you are looking for a boot to spend extended periods of time in very cold (below zero) temperatures, I would recommend a different Bean boot (the shearling lined hunting shoe is fantastic). I would recommend that you also pick up a thing of Beans Boot Wax ($8) and use it every month or so to keep them looking good and help keep water out. As a native back-woods Vermonter, these boots get my official stamp of approval!

I have been looking at these boots for way to long and finally bought a pair when I was in Maine last year. I bought a size smaller than the boot I normally wear as suggested, The boots are well insulated and very comfortable. I first put them on with intentions of taking them off after I did some outside chores in the snow. When I came back inside I just wore them the rest of the day they felt so good. If you want a high quality comfortable boot you can't go wrong with these. I should have bought these a long time ago.

Only had these boots for two weeks now, 2/25/2015, but they are great. I only lace the bottom two eyelets and use this boot as a slip on boot. My pant leg bottoms tuck into the top of the boot, no cold air up my pant legs and no snow or slush on bottom of my pant legs. Boots seem to grip on ice better than my other boots with regular hiking tread, but they still are slippery, so be careful on ice. Comfortable with no break in. I wear a EE (wide) and these are great. Love the Thinsulate bottoms too. If I was going to wear these all day out in the snow I'd certainly lace them all the way to the top. But I use them as loose slip on boots between houses so I can live with loose boot for a short time between houses. Note for LLBEAN: PLEASE MAKE STORM CHASERS SIDE-ZIP BOOT IN WIDE (EE) ALSO. I'd buy them in a flash too. Thank you LLBean for these boots.

I was so sad when I received my boots! I went by the sizing recommendation, but mine ended up being too small. I love the make and design of the boot and it certainly looks like it would last a very long time! I'm really not putting any of the blame on the company, but more on myself. I like my shoes a big snug, but the length was just a bit too tight for me with my thicker wool socks. I also would tell anyone ordering these to be careful with the width. I have a somewhat narrow (boney) foot, but the narrow was simply to narrow. I would tell most to go with a medium. Another piece of advice, before deciding on the size, in your daily shoe, put on the thickest pair of socks you have and then check the size. That will give you a bit more accuracy when deciding on size. I would say the boot runs closer to being true to size. I wear a 9.5 in my tennis shoes, and it said to order a size down if you wear a half size. I would say go a size up if you are a half size. Thanks LL Bean for your professionalism on the phone when handling my return questions. I am looking forward to receiving my new pair later this year.
