I purchased the 8-inch version with Thinsulate the Tan/Brown.
They are all around really amazing! Waterproof and sufficiently warm on subzero Chicago winter days (w/the Thinsulate lining and thick wool socks). Stylish, people immediately recognize them even with other brands mimicking the look LL Bean created. They are very comfortable provided you get the right size. Make sure you follow LL Bean's guidelines at the very least (go one size down even with the insulated version) or better yet and if you're able to, visit a store and give them a try.
My only complaint would be a lack of traction on some surfaces. Obviously, uncleared, icey city sidewalks are going to be slippery regardless of shoes being worn but I have noticed they can provide less traction than even very basic walking shoes on the very same sidewalks. I wore my LL Bean Mountain Town Shoes a couple of days when the snow was more compact and boots were not entirely necessary and the traction difference was significant. Train platforms and worn metal stairs can also prove to be quite slippery.
I'm guessing this traction issue I have experienced is tied to the fact that the soles, which still more or less follow the original design as far as I know, were crafted for less urban environments.
The build quality is great though I noticed on one of my boots the rubber bottom and the leather top at some point shifted and don't entirely meet as they should have. This was minor and acceptable to me plus I needed the boots and it so far does not seem to have impacted their use.
They should last me for a few years and when I eventually go on the market for another pair of boots, I will undoubtably be purchasing Bean Boots.

With the winter we are having these boots have been a lifesaver.
It would be nice for LL Bean to put out a catalog of all their products that are made in the USA.

We had to wait almost 2 months for these to be delivered, but worth the wait. My son ordered these 1 size smaller than usual due to recommendations from previous customers and that was the right call. He also wanted the ones with Thinsulate and he is loving them. It's been a cold and wet winter so far, and having these to walk to classes is a blessing. A definite item to add to a college student's list-get them earlier than you need them. I've learned my lesson for our younger child.

After debating about getting these boots for quite a long time, I am glad that I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a pair. They are such a great investment. I wish they had a bit more traction on the bottom, but the boots are incredibly warm and keep my feet dry in this terrible NYC weather. I would certainly recommend these. Order a size down and get the thinsulate addition. They will fit like a glove.

I can honestly say these are the best boots I've ever worn. Comfortable, warm and great quality. I can never go back to another boot. This is the one for me.

today a storm came to new york but so did my boots. they arrived a whole week earlier than the expected delivery date AND it even came 1 day earlier than the expected, expected delivery date. these boots are incredible. i am size 11 in all footwear from sandals to running shoes, but i ordered these a size 10 and they fit magically like cinderella. i went to shovel the mountains today and my pants and jacket were drenched by the time i finished but my feet were dry as if i never left the house. my feet were incredibly warm and didn't break a sweat. contrary to what i read online about thinsulate being TOO warm, these kept me perfectly cozy. there was a lot of ice in the morning and when i walked out, even if i wanted to slip, i couldn't.

I found the boots really roomy and they had lots of room for llbean boot socks which I would say makes for a better fit and really keeps your foot warmer. Have had them for 2 seasons and the traction is good in the snow. Used them in temperatures in the low teens and have had no discomfort as long as I use the heavy socks. I hope this helps someone.

These duck boots fit great but follow the sizing recommendations. They run approximately 1 size larger than you would normally wear in a boot. Due to the length of time it takes to receive the boot you want to make sure order the right size.

Very happy with the product. I have a few foot issues, and even for brand new boots, after wearing them the last couple of days of storms, they are comfortable. They keep my feet dry. I'm impressed by how warm they are. The only way they could be improved would be to swap the eyelets for a zipper.

Pricey but you get a good product, unless your foot shrinks or grows you will be wearing these for a long long time.

I know customer reviews can be frustrating because they sometimes contradict each other. I will provide the facts:
I normally wear an 11.5 wide size athletic shoe. I wear a 2E or 4E width (specifically the Mizuno Waver Rider and Asic GT series shoe).
I followed the advice on the website and went a half size down, and then another full size down because I would be wearing a mid weight sock. I also ordered the wide width. So I ended up ordering size 10, wide 2E.
I sole inserts that came with the boot were not cut correctly, causing my feet to cramp. However, once I removed and trimmed the insert, the boots fit like a dream.
I have stood in standing water with no problems whatsoever. The thinsulate lining helps, but it should be noted that only the bottom rubber section is insulated. Everything above the ankle is not insulated.
Overall I am very pleased with these boots !

I can now blow snow and my feet stay warm and dry. My former boots were not insulated and my feet would freeze before the driveway was clear. Due to high demand, I had to wait more than a month (ordered in November), but I didn't need them during the wait. I ordered my regular size 8, but thick socks cause a tight fit. I can use regular white cotton socks for a good fit and the insulation keeps me warm without thick socks.

I've purchased three pairs of these boots for my sons, all of whom wear size 14 shoes. Even with heavy socks the boots swim on them. For two of the sons I exchanged for 14 narrows, as the size 13's were back ordered until spring. The difference in width was enough to make the boots functional. The third son has not yet exchanged his, but may wait for the 13's to become available to try those. They're great boots that keep their feet warm and dry. The customer service staff was exceptional.
These boots are available up to a size 14, but I feel pretty confident that size 15 wearers could get a good fit.

I am in love with these boots. I love the fact that I can stand in a few inches of water when it snows and my feet stay 100% dry and warm. One thing I will say is that I am not 100% sure the extra insulation is worth the money. I guess I would have to own both pair to try them out but the insulation is very thin and I am not sold on the fact that it matters. Could easily wear thick warm socks (which I do sometimes anyway) to get the warmth if you will be out in the cold and snow for hours. Overall the best pair of winter boots I've owned!

Finally got a pair and worth the wait! The waterproof is awesome and the for spot on. I have a very wide foot and I am glad these boots accomodate for that also. Be prepared to wear a little thicker socks though for the full New England experience. Also be patient and wear them a lot to break them in!

My son absolutely loves these boots - only thing he asked for Christmas - at first they were on back order and then LL Bean came through for us. Thanks!

my first time owning a pair of the legendary LL Bean boots, and I must say they more than live up to the hype. Incredibly comfortable, they feel broken in after wearing them just twice.
Kudos as well for the accurate sizing info on the website -- they said they run large and they were correct. I'm normally a sz 9.5 and i ordered the sz 8 boots and they fit perfectly.
One other thing I'd like to point out: I ordered them the week of Thanksgiving and was told they wouldn't arrive until January. Imagine my surprise when they showed up in mid-December!
Great boot, greater customer service. Now I know why people love LL Bean so much .. I'm sold!

I ordered these as a Christmas present for my friend. They said they weren't going to ship till Janaury 4th. But I was surprised to find an email on December 12th that the boots had shipped. I was so excited to be able to give them to her for Christmas! They were great and she loves them!

I got these boots to wear to and from class in college. They've been great for the rain, keeping my feet dry. It's yet to snow but once it does, I don't doubt that these boots will keep my feet warm and dry. The best part about these boots is that they are stylish yet very functional. I really recommend buying these, especially for college students.

My wife and I were planning on going to Zurich, Switzerland for Christmas holiday. I was looking for a boot that has a reputation for being warm, waterproof, can handle slush, snow, holds up to abuse and etc.. To further complicate the situation, I was in the Democratic Republic of Congo as an expat.
I talked to two shoe experts by phone and decided to go with a 9 regular width in the Ash color. LL Bean shipped from the United States to Paris, France where we would landing. My boots and other items purchased got there with no hassle, box unmarred and two and half weeks earlier than they stated. Well done LL Bean. Well done!
7 days into a trip I'm pleased as a peach with this boots. It's been really rainy and cold so far and my feet are happy. Not going to lie, there was a breaking in period where my feet were hurting. However, that was due to fact that it is a new boot and walking 10 miles with them was not smart.
One thing I must mention is that the width might be a bit off. It feels a little narrow and makes me wish I was able to try out a different width but it's working out. Some might be wondering why LL Bean and pay extra in shipping. My Mom started me on LL Bean when I was young and I will not compromise by going elsewhere when warmth and quality is at stake.
Thank you to Diane and her team for making these wonderful boots. I will be pushing people to you all and your fine products and services. Cheers from Zurich.

Bought these for my college-age son for Christmas. However, when he was home for the weekend, I had him try them on for size so I'd have time to exchange them. He LOVED them! The fit was perfect and they were very comfortable. Since he is in school in the Berkshires, I decided he really needed them now rather than wait for Christmas. I'd say he is 100% satisfied!

I have wanted a pair of this style of L.L. Bean boots for decades. I finally got a them, and I am not disappointed with this American made and made in Maine product. The thinsulate lining makes the boots warm enough to not have to wear bulky socks if I don't want to. The quality is excellent on these hardy boots. The customer service is top rate in answering any questions I had.
