I chose these shoes over others for the wide width. They were very stiff and the fit was too short and narrow. I was pleased that the return was easy and processed quickly.

Pros- the wide toe box is nice. I had no issues with my bunionette which caused pressure points in other hiking shoes. Nor did I lose a toenail as I have on past trips. Cons- the shoes are very stiff and heavy. They also did not have good traction on smooth rock slopes

These boots are just ok. They are heavy for a low cut boot. I wish boot manufacturers would use flat laces on boots. Round laces have a tendency to unravel quickly. I have a wide foot and have a hard time finding boots and shoes. These come in wide so that's why I bought them.

I've been ordering LLBean products for many years and this is the first time I returned an item for quality and not just a different size. I was looking for hiking shoes in a color other than brown which isn't easy to find. I was very pleased with the pretty blue version of these hikers. The fit was good and the sole seemed solid and cushy with good support. The problem is that the uppers were so stiff they rubbed my heels and the underside of my ankle bones raw. I took a walk up the street and only went about a half mile before I had to turn back and come home. Very disappointed. I rated them 3 stars because the overall quality is good - just the stiffness I couldn't handle.

I just purchased the Carbon Navy/Deep Lagoon. They are narrower and a bit shorter than the Burgundy/Light Rosewood I purchased a few months ago. Ordered both in 8W. The Navy ones fit like a medium. I tried two pairs of Navy, hoping one was sized wrong. Both fit exactly the same, too narrow. They will have to go back.

Nice hiker but a little too tight. I wear a 6 medium in all shoes, but this one is too tight. Trying to break them in. Not feeling the comfort...

I bought these 1/2 size larger than usual, and in wide. Very disappointed that they run small and irritate my bunions.

Excellent hiker but too stiff. I've worn them in the house several days and they are still stiff. No give any where!

I've had several pairs of these shoes and love them. So I ordered my regular size with confidence (6 1/2 wide). These were too small and tight in the toe area. I've reordered a size 7. Had to pay to return them. I'll have to wait till late December to get them. Hope they are worth the wait. The whole process has been more work than I expected!

I am an 8-1/2 Wide and ordered as such for these hiking shoes. They were pretty, good quality, well constructed, and supportive. BUT the toe box and shoe width were STILL way too narrow! So I had to return them and ended up purchasing the Men's 7-1/2 regular, which is wider than Women's wide. The Men's 7-1/2 shoe fit me perfectly. Go figure...

I ordered these because I need them in the garden and for fall walks. Ordered wide because I need a wide toe box. These were wide but not in the toe box, so gave them to a sister.

I loved the look of these hikers because I hate wearing heavy boots. Unfortunately these were heavier than my Keen boots. No give at all. I ordered my normal size and these felt really snug. I couldn't wiggle my toes. They hurt my feet so much after only about a 1/2 mile walk I had to take them off and walk home in bare feet. I also like wearing a thicker hiking sock and there's no way with these. You definitely need to order up. Not sure about the waterproof claim since I never got them wet.

The shoes fit fine, a little wide by the heel. They have proven to be waterproof. They are just so stiff and rigid which makes them uncomfortable after a few hours. Instead of paying for a pricier shoe, I thought I would give these a shot. Once these wear out, I'm going back to my old brand.

I have been wearing this pair of shoes around the house for a couple of days to ensure a good fit since I have wide feet. I am going to do it a little longer before I decide if they will work or not. In the meantime, the color is AWESOME and there is good support. I can't comment on them being waterproof since I have not worn them outside, but they are stiff as would be expected.

I have several of these model shoes and this time the toe box is very tight. It is fine in length but the volume or height is much smaller than the previous one I purchased a few months ago. It was so much different that I double checked the size. I ordered the correct size and it is the same size as my previous purchase so it is the shoe that is different. I recommend it only if one wears very thin socks.

I bought these shoes to wear in my yard doing chores. It has been raining for sever days. I was tired of wet feet. I was out feeding horses, mud and water everywhere. After working for and hour, in the wet, my feet felt damp and cold. when I came in and took off the shoes, my right sock was soaked and the left one was partly wet. I guess they are not water proof. Very disappointed

I had another pair of these I wore for years and loved them. The sole was really getting worn down so I thought it was time to replace them. The others never leaked and were comfortable to wear. The toe box in these seems a little smaller, not all over, but in spots, so it seems like more of a manufacturing thing rather than a design thing. I've had them about a year and worn several times in the rain and they were fine. But today I wore in a very heavy rain (flash flood watch and my Apple Watch locked itself as it does when you're swimming!) and they kept out most of the water, but not all of it. My socks and the inside of the shoes are damp, but not soaked, so I'd have to rate them "highly water resistant" rather than waterproof. But I appreciate the durable construction and having plenty of underfoot support. So overall, I'd go with a 3.5, which still puts them ahead of my other options- some of which are more WP, but I can't actually walk in them.

I love the look of the shoes. They also fit well. I walked around town a bit and they seemed to be fine. But when I hiked with them they were so stiff that they rubbed on my feet and became painful. I didm"t use them on a trip after the first day.

The shoe's insole was comfortable, but the outside of the shoe is bulky. It felt like I was wearing moon sneakers.

This low rise hiking boot has a stiff sole and good tread which is what I want in a hiking boot. I'm returning them as the shoe, 8D width (my typical shoe width) is definitely too narrow. The length however seems correct. I tried them first with an athletic sock - way too tight. I then tried with a thin, ultra-lightweight, hiking sock but boot was still too narrow. The only way I could comfortably wear this shoe was without any socks-not happening. At least the heel was narrow enough so my foot didn't slide out as is typical of many "wide" shoes and where so many shoe manufacturers get wrong in assuming feet are wide from forefoot to heel (most feet taper). Seems well made but they need to fix the width problem. It's pure misery as a female trying to find wide shoes of any kind.

Great tread and durable construction however disappointing fit. For 100 dollars I will be exchanging them for my old favorite the snow sneaker. I have three other pairs of the snow sneaker and they are so comfortable, waterproof, wide, flexible etc. This trail hiker is very stiff and unsupportive. Its a little short and narrow for a wide. They are painful around the ankle and no cushion inside. I hate to return and give up on them but I don't think they will ever break in and inserts don't help.

These seemed to be very well made hiking shoes but I had to return them ( a few weeks ago which makes me wonder why LL Bean is asking for a review) because they were so stiff they felt like they were gripping my foot and would rub while walking. The W width was not wide enough to be comfortable and they were loose in the heel. The sizing needs to be re- evaluated. They might fit someone else differently. Can't recommend them based on my experience.
