Walked lots of rescue Mastiffs last winter with wet feet; mine and theirs. Researched all over the net for the shoe I needed... finally decided on these. I wear a size 10 so I ordered a size 11 to fit my orthotics and heavy socks. The toe box is plenty large to accommodate the inserts, socks, and my foot. I could have gotten by with a 10 1/2 instead; however I like to wiggle my toes and these are just fine. I anticipate years of wear from the obvious attention to detail in the construction. Money well spent.

Bought these for my daughter in College and she loves them. She could not find boots that would not rub her feet or keep her feet dry during raining days walking to class. They are a great fit (order a size down than what you normally wear) and very comfortable. Now she wears them even if it is not raining just for the style of them. Great purchase. I hate I did not order a pair for myself and now I can't get them again till next year. Highly recommend them.

I am so glad I bought these this summer and am crazy for the purple combo ones. Totally awesome. Nothing functions like these when it counts. I'm ready for rain, sleet, mud, and snow!

I ordered the Women's L.L. Bean boots with 6" padded collar for the winter rains of Oregon. I have worn them and was pleasantly surprised how comfortable they are right out of the boot. They are well made. I love the brown on brown.

My daughter is going to Italy in January and it was recommended that she get rain boots. These immediately popped into my mind and I ordered them. They arrived in less than a week and while they run a bit large, with the wool inserts they fit perfectly. She has been wearing them to "break them in" but this is absolutely unnecessary as they are soft and comfortable. She will be able to wear them while on walking tours. We are very happy with the quality and comfort of this boot.

I have worn the basic brown Bean boots for all kinds of work for several years and there is none better. When I saw the grape leather top with the padded collar, I knew I had to have them.

These shoes were such a great buy! They are super comfortable and as soon as I opened them, their high quality was evident. These shoes are so "in" right now, but as a wildlife biologist, I can tell you that these shoes are as practical and functional as they are good looking. You can tell that there was so much care put into these boots, from the quality of the leather to the triple stitching. If you want a pair of field boots that leave room for thick socks and are comfortable, these are the way to go!

Great snow boot. Follow the suggestions when ordering, as I normally wear a 7.5 and ordered a 7 and they fit like a dream.

These are so cute. I love the padded back, it looks a little updated from the classic bean boot. Definitely go down 1 size. I'm a true 8 and the 7 fits perfectly.

I tried to order a pair of these boots last winter, but they were backordered for months. I ordered these in June to be certain that I had them when the snow begins to fall in Massachusetts.
I tried them on, of course, and they fit perfectly with a pair of warm socks. I'm not anxious for the winter months, but at least I'll be ready for them this time.

I've had these boots for 15 years, but we bought a pair for my daughter who goes to school in Orono where it's either snowing or raining pretty much all year and she absolutely loved these boots and pretty much lived in them until May. We just purchased another pair for my daughter who will be going to school in Vermont in PURPLE! So excited for the color. We use these boots for snow as well as rain and mud over traditional snow boots unless we are tromping through feet of snow. They do run big, my daughter wears a 7 and the 6 fit fine, with room. You need extra socks for cold, but they stay super dry. The one and only downside is that there is no arch support so long term use can be an issue. We purchased inserts for my daughter who lives in them in Orono as she ended up having issues because of the lack of support. Bean sells supports in the Freeport store, not sure if they do in the catalog, but of course you can pick them up anywhere.

Just got my 3rd pair of these wonderful boots. Had to wait a few months, since they were backordered and now I'll have to wait for Fall to wear. But worth the wait, since I already know how much I will enjoy wearing them. Just like my other boots, I down sized 1 size and I wear them with regular socks and they are perfect. I have the sheepskin boot liners that I previously ordered for extra warmth when needed. Thank you again LLB!

These are great boots. They fit like the description. If you wear thin socks then go down a full size, and if you wear thicker socks you can wear your normal shoe size. I wear a size 9 but I purchased a size 8 and wear thinner socks and they fit great. They are nice looking and of great quality. I have the plum color and I love them. They are waterproof and fit great and are comfortable too. I would highly recommend them.

I just received the grape version of this boot after being on backorder a few months. I am very happy with the color, style and fit. I normally wear a 10.5 narrow and the size 10 I ordered fit just as expected. These are boots so they do run large and wide to accommodate heavy socks. In my experience, all LLB boots run this way.
I do see what some reviewers say about difficulty getting the boots on. The leather tongue is one piece with not much play. So if you have wide feet or heavy socks on, they can be difficult to pull on. Presumably the boots are made this way so that water, snow, muck, etc. runs down the leather channels and not inside the boot. I agree it can be tricky getting the correct size and fit when ordering the boots online.
I do really like the grape color with the rubber bottom- gives the boot a funky vibe and is something different from the classic color combinations. All in all, I am happy with my purchase and am considering the olive/brown version as well. If you can get the fit correct, you will love these boots!

first off, my order was on backorder five times before they finally arrived. originally ordered 1/16/15, expected backorder for 2/24. several more backorders, and worrying I wouldnt have these in time for mud season(march/april)then finally arrived on 4/7/15. I was worried that after all that waiting the boots wouldnt even fit or I just wouldnt find the quality up to par. well I have to admit, it was worth the wait!
reason for purchase: I read other reviews that felt these were not warm enough for winter, but I wanted these for mud season, need something made of rubber that is waterproof bottom and easy to rinse off with hose. tromping around in back yard with dog in mud, cleaning up after dog, yard work, easy on/off(planned to order larger size than usual). our back yard "paradise" is one big squish after winter snow melts especially since we got 7 feet this year, and it melted all at once.
sizing: I normally wear a size 10.5 in Brooks running shoes, or 11 in Nikes. I have 4 year old Merrel winter boots in a size 10 that fit perfect, and 15 year old Salomon clogs in a size 10 that also fit perfect, both leather/suede that stretches. I read that bean boots run large and to order a size and a half down from normal. well, I dont have a"normal" as you can see, as all manufacturers run different. I knew I wanted the boots a little loose on purpose, because I like to be able to get them on and off real quick, and I only use them for yard work, cleaning up after the dog, in mud weather, not going for long hikes, etc. I got the size 10 in these, and yes they are a little big, but not obnoxiously so. they are a little loose in the way i wanted them to be. I could have gotten a 9.5 and they would have still fit. with the 10 i have room to turn these into a winter boot by adding a liner or the fleece footbed that bean sells. but even without that I feel these could be good for mild winter. where i live we dont get mild winters, but its no matter as I was not intending to use these for that purpose, but its nice to know I can modify these and get more use out of them if my Merrels ever quit on me. I wear Smartwool hiking socks with these, or rag socks. between my Merrel winter boots size 10 and the bean size 10, the beans are definitly a full size bigger, but again, i wanted that. Even though they fit like a glove once on, I struggle to get the Merrels on and off, and I needed/wanted something with a quicker way about it to run the dog out real quick, etc., but with more protection up the ankle than just a slip on clog. I will be keeping the 10.
color/style: I've always wanted these "duck" style boots, but i like a pop of color, and these purple and black fit exactly what I was looking for. thanks, Bean, for making these classics in a cool fun purple color.
I did request, and did recieve, a $10 gift card for having to wait so long. the customer service was professional and courteous, as always, and assured me my boots were going to be made and shipped soon, and offered a reason of why it may be taking so long. I can be pretty patient, but its nice to know that something is in the works while you are waiting, that bean didnt just forget me or something, and they offered a reason and assured me they were doing what they can, and I really appreciate it. it helps when you are waiting.
and lastly#but not least!#:to the person who made my boots, Tejasa, THANK YOU! these are awesome! I treasure my new boots.
Keep up the fantastic work!

Ladies- just wanted to confirm that you should order one size smaller than your typical size- I wear a ladies size 7 US and ordered a size 6. They fit perfectly with socks that are of a medium thickness. I'm on my second pair of these boots- had the first ones for 15 years and hoping to have these forever! Thanks! Enjoy.

I purchased my first pair of Bean boots for the wet Kentucky winter and springs. I was concerned the stiff leather of the regular 6" boots would rub my lower leg, so I decided to start with the padded collar style and I don't notice any rubbing whatsoever. The foot bed is firm, yet comfortable with a moderate amount of arch support. I can see these being comfortable on my 1 mile walk each way to class, gardening, or possibly going on a muddy spring hike, but I don't know that I would go out shopping all day in these. All in all, they're more comfortable than any rainboots I've ever owned and about on par with most other boots I own. As others have mentioned about unlined bean boots, I do notice they are not warm shoes in comparison to other leather and non-leather boots I own. The rubber allows a noticeable amount of cold through, even indoors and wearing medium thickness socks.
Regarding sizing: I always wear a regular 8.5 in any style shoe and my foot is slightly on the wider side, but customer service was adamant that I should order a size 7. I was able to get my foot in the narrow opening, but my toes nearly reach the end of the shoe and there isn't much wiggle room in the toe box. My foot is not squeezed, however, and I can comfortably walk around the house in medium thickness socks (around the thickness of your standard white crew socks), but in the future I think I will order a size 8 so I can wear warmer socks in winter. I don't normally wear wool socks, but the rubber conducts cold exceptionally well and I will definitely need something thicker than I would normally wear with boots outdoors. Overall, these feel like really good quality boots that are comfortable straight out of the box, but I think I will be exchanging for a size 8 so I at least have the option to wear a boot liner or thicker sock.

The tongue is sewed right to the top so if you have a high instep, it may be difficult to get this boot on. I wear an 8 and ordered an 8 and have no problem with it. Had trouble with my original order...wrong color boot was sent, but it was remedied quickly and I received the correct color. These are very unique in color. Love the boot!

I love the look and the quality of these boots. I have had several pairs of the moccasin style bean boots, and I wanted a boot to protect my ankles. Sadly, I am returning these because the tongue is sewn all the way up and I could not get my foot into these. (I wear a 6 but I have a high instep so they won't work for me. I will probably try the Chelsea boot. Really great boots but not for me.

I love my new 6 inch duck boots! I'm normally a size 9 wide but I bought size 8 and they fit perfectly. Very well made. Just what a girl needs for east coast US weather.
