Have always loved the LLBean boot. They are a great boot but now the tongue on the boot is sewn on each side to the boot so they are more difficult to get on...worth a little bit of a struggle though

Had to size down for this boot. I'm usually an 8, but needed a 7. The leather is more of a reddish color (hence the burgundy description). With thick socks, it is tougher to get on and off due to the fully sewn-in tongue. I bought different laces that are a little longer and softer, to make it easier to double-knot.

Love the boots, however I thought they were waterproof but, when I went out in the snow my toes got wet. I still like them though

Liked the look of these boots because they have a touch of black. Nice quality and no need to break in very comfortable from the beginning! I walked my dog two miles the first day I wore them, usually with new footwear I get super bad blisters but no issues here! However, I wish LL bean offered a women's size 5. They seem bulky and run a little big for petites out there.

I really love these boots. I have been wanting a pair for years, now I have some. The only thing is, just like any other boot, there never seems to be enough cushioning in the sole of the boot. Not to worry, just a light insole will suffice. I can't wait for the wet and snowy weather to wear them out in the cold.

Like other comments absolutely love the boots but very difficult to get on. Though I understand the purpose of the attached tongue, it makes the boots very difficult to slip into. That being said, boots are very comfortable once you make it past the ankle of the boot!

I have tried to purchase the LLB boot in 6" and 8" without any padding around the top of the boot, and I could never last long enough to break in the leather to make it feel comfortable. Always returned them. The padding around the ankle collar is a winner! I wish these boots had a bit more padding under the feet also, however, it was not a final decisive factor in me keeping them. I only wish that because one cannot walk a few miles in these boots without some foot fatigue. (reason for 4 stars). As far as size, I am normally a size 8.5-9 in a boot. I ordered the 8 and the 7. The 8 was just too long and would need a very heavy sock , or 2 pairs of socks, for my feet not to slip around in (which they were with a medium sock). I kept the 7 which fit spot on with a pair of medium socks.

The boot is comfortable and fits well once you get the foot in, but the new leather and tight construction mean that getting your foot, in a thick sock, through the collar was challenging as a 66 year old who is not in the greatest shape. A larger boot would not work, my foot would be too loose inside, but not until the leather was a little broken in did it get easier to put the boot on. And I had a medical procedure in late February that meant I had no occasion to wear the boot for about 4 weeks. Putting them on again today after 4.5 weeks (ugly and wet out today), it was like putting them on the second or third time, easier than the first try ever, but definitely not EASY. You also should provide a "care and feeding of your Bean Boot " booklet - what to use to soften and maintain the leather, keep it clean, SOFTEN THE LACES, WHICH ARE NOT FUN EITHER (!), and so on. For the money, that's the least you should get. If you sell those items (why wouldn't you, you have plenty of other items that need regular care in your line); offer a discount to buy them from you. Regardless, I think you really need to create such a booklet, or send me one if the shipping person forgot to include it and it was supposed to be there all along. I was actually surprised not to find such a thing - a product like this is meant to serve its owner for many years, and if you want me to buy my next pair from you... As I said, based on what I know of your products, I was surprised I didn't get something like that. I hope someone will send me your suggestions. I used a leather conditioner from Kiwi to soften the leather upper and what I am calling the collar - would have used Mink Oil, but that doesn't seem to be available anywhere around lately. But not sure what to use on the rest if the sole and upper, or if there's anything to maintain it and make it last longer. Thank you for listening, and for sending me a response when you have a chance. It is comfortable and good to walk in

I wear a 7 / 7.5 and it was suggested I get a size 6 but that I should have a thumb's width at the toe. The 7 gives me a thumbs width at the toe so got the 7. They fit well, just a tad looser (1/2 size bigger) than they probably should be but the foot bed and all fits properly. I prefer my boots to fit a bit loosely anyways, just as these do. But puzzled why they would size them a full size larger than labeled (supposedly, again for me I did not agree and I bought my usual size). Seems confusing. Other than that, I love them and though I've not worn them yet, I think I will be very happy with them. This padded ankle version may not look quite as cool as the traditional Bean boot, but the tumbled leather and padded ankle make sense for comfort.

Normally I wear a size 9.5 D (a little wide). I struggled with figuring out the right size to order in the 6" tumbled bean boot. I ended up ordering the 8 medium. It seems to fit fine width wise and length wise, but due to the boot construction (tongue), it is a bit narrow getting my foot down into the right boot on the right boot. I am hoping it will stretch out and start being easier. The regular bean boots without the padded cuff would not have this problem since they open wide at the cuff. Since the left boot does not have the same issue, I think it may just be variation in construction (I doubt the insole/height of my right foot is that much bigger in that manner. Never had issues with other boots). Other than that - like them and am wearing them Wear in the the PNW for dog walks in the rainy wet mud/flooded streets.

I sized according to LL Bean recommendations and that worked out fine. I have a wide toe box, but the medium gave me enough room because the rubber gives. The boots are admittedly difficult to get into, due to the attached tongue. The quality and style of these boots is excellent - I love the tumbled leather. If you are a person with chronically cold feet and are looking for warmth - look elsewhere. Today I ran errands and was in and out of my car for two hours in 32 degree temps with the car heater on, and by the time I got home my toes were freezing. In my opinion, for those of us with cold feet, these boots work best at 45-50 degrees and above.

I had a pair of duck boots from EB which were immediately comfortable with great arch support and warmth. When the rubber cracked after a year, I researched brands and tried on practically every pair at LL Bean. I landed on these as they seemed warm. After wearing them a few times now, they aren't as comfortable as I had hoped. The arch support and padding isn't as good as EB, and the shearling seems to end before the tip of the boot so my toes aren't super warm. I'm keeping them, but I think there's some room for improvement.

Bought these at my husband's recommendation - he LOVES his. I only wore them once so far and we don't get a lot of rain. When I get to wear them in wet weather I'll have a better idea of how good they are and would be happy to write another review then.

I got a small batch and this one. Although the looks are not as fashionable, it is the most comfortable of the 2. I did not get soreness above the ankle. HOWEVER, the heel plate kept rubbing against my heel. Not sure if I could replace it, I will check with them. Get this one, not the small-batch ones. They are definitely hand made because the right tongue is different from the left. Also, it is crimped compared to the left tongue. The insulation is better as I do not feel the coldness as I would with the small-batch on a Southern California rainy day.

I love my new bean boots. Only thing with these specific pair is they are hard to get on because of the tight stitch of the tongue. My red limited edition pair has the same problem. Otherwise, I'm never disappointed with my bean boots. Also, remember with bean boots you have to go a full size down. I usually wear a 7 but in bean boots I wear a 6.

I was really excited to receive these boots. I have flat feet and unfortunately the steel shank made the boots very uncomfortable. Sadly, I had to return these boots. (I had the same issue with the traditional LL Bean duck boot but was hoping the fit on these would be different.) For those with a decent arch support these would be GREAT boots--that's why I rated them a 4.

First pair of Bean boots! After reading/hearing comments from Bean boot wearers, I was honestly hesitant when receiving my first pair of the iconic boots (I'd heard everything from too big, too cold, too tight, too stiff to actually falling apart). All I can say is, so far, so good! PROS: -Tumbled leather is soft, SUPPLE, and holding up (finish is NOT peeling or rubbing off). -Padded collar is super COMFY (like a hug for your ankle). -My feet stay DRY. I can walk through all the puddles. CONS: -They are a tad TIGHT to fit the foot into at the top. These are a one-piece gusset, stitched all the way to the top (keeps out the snow and water), so getting the foot into the boot is a little TRICKY. I'm a tiny person, and I have small feet/ankles/calves, and I still struggle a bit. -These boots are NOT a "winter boot"- they are COLD. I knew this going into an unlined boot; they're just rubber and leather, no lining at all, so they don't keep my feet warm in the snow or wearing outdoors in the cold for long hours. (I can't wait to try the Gore-Tex or at least the thinsulate-lined Bean boots). NOTE: -I was given a size 6 (I wear a size 5.5), and they are ROOMY in the toe (close to an inch of extra space) but fill in nicely with one pair of thick wool socks. I have a narrow foot and they perfectly fit the sides of my feet. All in all, a comfy boot that keeps my feet dry! : )

Not sure why it is recommended to size down in these boots. I wear a size 10 in boots (hiking and snow boots). I purchased a 10 in this boot and it was a perfect fit, the same as any other boot I wear. The padded collar is comfortable. Cute boots!

PROS: Well made, classic, stylish, comfortable, room to wiggle your toes. Given my short stature, I like how they still sit just above my ankle - still flattering. Get the padded collar!!! I've tried other boots without a padded collar. Even with thick socks they are still made my ankles raw. The Bean Boots still felt great after wearing them for 12 hours straight with regular weight mid-calf socks. CONS: I walk hard on my heels, so it will be interesting to see how those hold up on the boot. After a weekend of full wear I can already see the the tread pattern nearly gone on one of the heels. Personally I don't mind visiting the cobbler for shoe maintenance, but might have to find a sturdier cap for the heels. The shoelaces are SO SHORT. In my photo I tried these on without socks, so I was able to pull the laces tighter than usual. As you can see the bow in my photo looks nothing like the bow length in the product details photos. I couldn't get a double knot in, so I had to periodically check to make sure my laces were still tied. Due to the lack of length, I had to put knots in the ends of the lace to prevent them from continually slipping out of the eyelet when taking them off and on. Speaking of taking them off and putting them on - I did experience a bit of tugging and fussing to get them onto my foot since the tongue is sewed onto the boot. I can live with it, but if someone has inflexible ankles or wants to wear thick socks with these then the Bean Boot might not be for you. Stats: 5' tall, 120lbs, Typically wear an 8 running shoe. OVERALL IMPRESSION: These held up in 11 degree F weather with slightly snowy and muddy conditions. I wore regular weight socks and my toes did get slightly cold unless I kept moving. These run big. I am most comfortably an 8 running shoe. I think had I gotten the 7 boot, they would have felt like clown shoes. However, I don't think I would say that a 8 size foot can comfortably wear a thick sock in a 6 boot. I like for my toes to have wiggle room - trying these boots on with thick socks made my foot feel too constricted. The laces are VERY short and you may need to purchase another pair if you like to double knot your boots.

I got these in the limited edition blue/black and they are beautiful! We ordered one size down as the description suggested. It took me about 15 minutes to get my foot into the boot because the opening, with the tongue attached to the boot, is way too tight. But, once I got my foot in, the boot fits my foot perfectly, so ordering a larger size wouldn't be a good solution. LL Bean, please make the opening on this style wider, your customers would appreciate it!! My bf ordered these online for Christmas and after waiting for the backorder I was excited to receive them, but I really thought I wasn't going to be able to get these on and almost gave up and returned them.

I was hesitant to order these boots in a size smaller than my normal size ... but held my breath and was pleasantly surprised when they fit fine. It's not that cold where I live ... so I only wear thin socks (or none at all). They are a bit hard to get on (because they don't have a zipper opening) but fit fine once my foot is inside.

These boots are super cute and I'm so glad customer service advised me to size down more than I normally would have. I'm almost always between a 7.5-8 and at first I planned on ordering the 7, but ended up with the 6 and I'm so glad I did! They're perfect with plenty of wiggle room in the toes. My only complaint so far is the leather where it meets the rubber bottom, there were several places with uneven, jagged cuts that I had to try to trim myself, they look better but not perfect. This imperfection doesn't warrant me sending them back, but it was a bit of a let down in quality. Otherwise the boots are very cute and I'm confident they'll serve me very well in the rainy autumn season.

These boots are super cute & I love the red color. They can be a little challenging to get on. They definitely keep your feet dry (I live in the Pacific NW), I did slip a bit in the mud, so I wish they had a bit better traction hence the 4 star rating. Very well made, the quality you'd expect of LLBEAN
