I love the look and the style of this boot!! They do run large...I'm usually a 9.5, so I ordered a 8 and they fit perfectly, but these will be worn with thin socks only. I ordered the brown ones for me and the red for my mother. While the brown ones fit great, soft leather, easy on, easy off...the red ones had a much stiffer leather and almost seemed to have less leather in the tongue area. So much so that it was difficult to get my foot into it (& my mom couldn't get her foot into them at all). We could both get our feet into the brown boots easily. I would go with the brown to be safe and only go with the red if you have slender feet & no swelling issues.

These boots are best for what they are intended for. They are comfortable, warm (this is Austin, so our winter is not very cold) and keep my feet dry. I took the opportunity of the extra space in the boots to put in extra soles for added comfort. However, they are great on their own. Many reviews complained about the attached tongues and I think they are supposed to be attached because these boors are meant to protect feet from moisture.
I highly recommend them.

I wear a women's 11 and one foot is wide. I ordered 11, but had to return them because they were huge. They were not a women's 11. Bean's should mark these boots down a size. I then got size 10. They were fine except for my wide foot and I had to return them. They do not run wide.

Plum and black combination is very good. But I need narrow size.

These took several months to arrive, but gorgeous color. I went with my regular size 7 since i have wide feet. Fit is good great color, comfy... however, i think it is odd that the tongue part is sewn to the boot. I think they would be easier to get on and off if the tongue was not sewed to the boot. Are all of your boots that way? Thanks

Have used bean hiking boots for 40 years. They have always been the right fit at size 8. I ordered these at size 8, much too large, exchanged for a 7.5, too large, then size 7 ended up being too cramped!

I wanted boots that were waterproof and would hold up. These boots seem well made and should last. And they kept my feet dry. As suggested I ordered down a size and with heavy wool socks the length is right. Downsides are that I have flat and narrow feet.so even when tightening the laces they are still too wide and gap and feel too loose but then too tight above the ankle. They have little arch support so I can't wear them all day. And what was most surprising is that the traction was not good such that I was sliding on wet leaves and grass. In summary I will keep the boots as they do keep your feet dry and they should hold up. So I will use in rain or dewy mornings on the farm But disappointed that they can't double as a supportive all day work boot. But my expectations might have been off when I purchased the boot. And if you have thicker feet they might fit better.

The pluses: They are waterproof!; ankle is padded; they go on easy enough (I still use a shoe horn I got from Bean decades ago). The minuses: Have to use an insert as there seems to me little between foot pad and ground and too wide; the stitch line at ankle rubs; no padding anywhere. All that said, I am hopeful that the laces will soften, the stitching not be as stiff. I bought them (after many tries with others) to wear on walks/hikes with my two very large, old dogs. We go in the am to avoid meeting other dogs and humans. They are old and were abused, very protective and not other live things friendly. Mud on trails, dewy grasses tall in the parks. I had hoped I could wear them during the summer months (snakes), but unless they soften up, I will continue with my old work boots. Definitely need winter socks to avoid chafing and provide a bit of cushioning. I purchased a AA/narrow boots last year and had to send them back. They were the right width, but I just couldn't get them out without great struggle. I wore Bean boots (they finally wore out) back in the early seventies. Life changes. Now I'm ready to try again. Predicate all of the above on wearing them only a dozen or so times on all myriad terrain and conditions. Would definitely recommend but do anticipate a lengthy "breaking in" period.

The style was fine, as expected. The length was good, but too wide in the instep and heel, could not stop heel slippage even with thicker socks and tight lacing. I returned them.

This shoes are bigger than regular sized shoes. I got this in its smallest size 6 and it's still big on me. I'm usually size 6 1/2 and had to get this in the size 6 the smallest size and they're really big. I wear them with thick socks and still big but these are fashionable with leggings.

Size 7 (I usually wear an 8M, so you need to size down)
I got these exact boots from LLBean 3 years ago (2019 boots were Special edition green, and the soft leather uppers), and these new ones don’t even compare! The tongue is too high, and it’s stitched in too tightly. I strained getting my foot inside, and once inside, the tongue was extremely uncomfortable hitting on the top of my foot. I kept for a week trying them on again and again, and they just don’t work for me. I’m sad because I LOVE my old boots and wanted to love these too. They really are cute too.

Decided to buy my first Bean boot. Beware- these are NOT lined and extremely cold in winter weather. I had to return after 1 wear due to my feet freezing in them. The young girl who sold them to me didn't explain that these are the coldest of Bean boots and are better for warmer weather from Spring to Fall.

I wear a size 8 1/2 shoe, so ordered size 8. They were way too big! Kinda stiff to walk around it, but very cute!

I was so excited to get these, but like other reviews, the leather is a different texture and color an waiter shoe. I'd absolutely love either one, but I want them to match. Now I need to pay to exchange them due to a defectit doesn't feel very good.

As some other reviews said, attached tongue of boot prevented me from getting my foot in the boot. Sizing up wouldn't have helped, size 9 is too large for me. Nice boot, wished they would have worked for me.

I thought the boot was too roomy for a size, which normally fits me. My toes were asking me,
""Where are you?". In fairness, I thought the boots were well constructed but they tended to rub the back of my lower calves and I didn't care for that, especially when I got a sore in one spot and had only worn the boot briefly. Admittedly, because of the recent colder, low humid days and nights, my skin was dry, which didn't help that cause. Also, although the temperatures were only between 45-50 Farenheit, they felt cold to my feet. Again, my feet were asking me to, "Hey, how about some heat down here!". One thing about LL Bean, which has endeared me to them as a company, their return policy is nice and I'm not afraid to return a product. Hence, I keep making purchases from them and keep most of what I purchase. I did purchase a pair of storm chaser boots and they seem to be working out just fine.

I'm glad that these have a heel pull tab because with the sewn in tongue they are hard to get on. Also I slipped and fell while walking on the wet Seattle streets when I walked over a metal grate, and had to walk very carefully on smooth concrete also ( inside Century Link Field ) I wont be wearing to walk to wet areas with metal or smooth concrete again ! I went down a full size and they fit correctly

The boots have been comfortable for my long work days but I'm disappointed I spent this much to get a decent pair of boots to keep my feet dry and my feet always end up wet. Even walking through a slushy parking lot gets my feet wet

I really wanted these boots to work for me! I am looking for a pair of waterproof boots for all weather walking of my dog. I have owned "duck" boots before and from the photos online these ones looked perfect. HOWEVER, what you can't see online is that the leather tongue of the boot is sewn on both sides all the way to the top. I assume this was done to make the boots "waterproof", but in reality it makes them incredibly awkward to put on and take off, and also makes flexibility of fit impossible.
I am extremely disappointed as the quality of materials and craftsmanship is great, but i had to return them because they were so restricting.

I waited a long time to get these boots. They are very cute, and the red leather is just what I wanted. They run very large, so my 5.5 ladies foot needed a lot of help to fit in the smallest boot size 6. I must wear very thick socks and use the shearling insole. I also added a strip of leather inside around my back heels to cover up the seam between the leather and the rubber so it wouldn't rub so much. These steps took care of the fit problem.
Now the biggest problem by far is that the opening caused by the gusset tongue (sewn-in) is WAY WAY too small for my high arch foot. Even though I have a pretty small foot, I was not even close to being able to get it in past the opening. I had to do something very drastic to be able to wear these boots: I took them to a boot repair shop, and they made 1.5 inch cuts on each side of the tongue to separate it from the boot so that the opening would be wider for my foot. I realize this has voided my warranty, but I really wanted these boots, and it was the only option. Now I can actually wear them.
Is all this trouble worth it? I think so, for me. But it may not be for everyone. So I would not recommend these boots to a friend.

I am a true size 9. I ordered down one size (in the tan/brown color) per reviews and Bean's suggestion. Size 8 was way too big, I also ordered the fleece inserts and that didn't help.
I reordered a size 7 but in the black/red 6" padded boots. The fit was much better but the quality of the leather upper was so stiff I could barely get my foot into them. I just ordered a size 7 in the more supple tan/brown boot.
I don't recommend the red leather ones and had to size down two sizes !

These women's duck boots are the high quality that you would expect from LL Bean, however, they are geared to someone with wide feet, thick feet. Wearing thick socks did not make a difference. Hence,I do not recommend these boots if you have narrow feet. I think LL Bean should offer a narrow option as well!

I could not get my foot into these boots so I will never know how they fit. The tongue is sewed up so high it made it impossible. I asked LL Bean to pass this on to their "stitching crew".... maybe they will re-consider how they stitch it. Otherwise I was very sad to have to return this as I waited months for the plum color!
