The chamois shirt is unreasonably oversized. I'm a lithe, athletic medium and at 6'1, this shirt draped to 4 inches above the knee and made me appear as a child in his father's closet. Otherwise of sound quality. Just keep in mind size disparity.

My first review was rejected for reasons unknown as I avoided all of the "please avoid" attributes, so I will try again. This was the fourth LL Bean chamois shirt I have purchased, usually one every 3 or so years. They have always been my favorite fall/winter shirts. But something has changed in the sizing since my last purchase. The Large fit is extremely long, in length and sleeve, and it is broad enough to be a coat. In fact, my young daughter asked about my new "coat" when I put this shirt on for the first time. I understand there are many reviews saying the shirt fits perfectly, and there are also many reviews saying the sizing is off and a Small fits like a Medium, a Large like an XL, etc. So I don't know if it's a factory issue or just the sheer breadth of human shapes and sizes. What I can say is that I have never bought an LL Bean XL in anything, and the chamois Large that I recently bought fits like a coat. I have had the same issue in recent months with other LL Bean products, where a Large is noticeably larger for the exact same product purchased a few years before. The shirt itself is wonderful in quality and softness. Just be advised that if you are pretty average size (I am 16 neck size, 40-42 chest, 34-35 sleeve length), then you may be shocked at the oversized fit of a Large. Or if you are expecting an LL Bean Large to fit as a Large used to fit 2-3 years ago.

In late 2017 I ordered several Chamois shirts, solid and plaid, in the medium tall size. The latest version still has the same great quality of fabric and features that have made this one of my favorite L.L. Bean products. Although the shirt-tail is unusually long, even for a tall size, the body and sleeve fit were great. However, all of the newest Chamois shirts have oddly placed buttons in the two top button positions. The collar button is displaced inward, leading to reducing the collar fit when buttoned. This is the likely cause of other reviews that observe the collar is sized too small. The problem is not due to circumference of the collar material, it is due to the top button placement. The next button is spaced about 2.5 cm further from the top collar button than in the design of the former versions of this shirt of exactly the same size. I included photos showing these differences between the 2016 and 2017 versions. When the top button is not buttoned, the extra space leaves an excessive gap in the chest area. This shirt is not supposed to be styled like a "disco-era" shirt. Whereas stock was limited after purchase I have just kept all the shirts with annoying misfit buttons due to their other redeeming qualities. I will buy again in hopes that future lots will have corrected this quality control problem. I urge L.L. Bean to better monitor sample lots for supplier quality instead of relying solely upon customer comments and returns.

Beautiful shirt but I have to return because it is clearly mis-sized. It is supposed to be a Small Regular. It's closer to a Medium, but the big problem is that it's very long; any longer and it would be a coat. I'm an average sized 5-9 guy. This should definitely be labeled a Long and perhaps Medium.

Handsome and soft fabric. My husband is very tall but not heavy so the width of these shirts isn't exactly stylish - definitely an "around the house style."

I love the color and texture of this shirt, but the cut is so boxy and large that it does not properly fit my build. I tried sizing down, but the shirt is still too long to be worn untucked. I will unfortunately be returning this item and hope that LL Bean comes out with a slim fit in the future.

I'm returning this shirt for one size smaller. I normally wear an XL and I ordered a large after reading a couple reviews mentioning this shift fit big. My shirt came in the mail today and even a large is too big. Will return for a medium.

Just bought this for my husband, he's usually a large tall in Bean's shirts is he wants them a little big for layering and to fit his long arms. He's 6' 175 lbs. This is huge, fits like a tent. But the shoulders are the right size, just the body and the length are huge. So going back for a regular large. I suspect it will still be way too big to wear tucked in, but great as a warm layer outdoors. It is a beautiful plaid and quality chamois, too bad the sizing is off. If anyone has a classic Maine woodsman build with a big torso and huge arms it'll fit them great!

I'm 5'10", 185lbs, wear a 42R jacket and 15.5 - 32/33 shirt. (PS these numbers should be required to add a review about sizing, taking notes llbean?) Pretty normal and average sized man, wouldn't you agree? Ok, arms are a bit shorter than average. All that said, I am always either a size M or L for shirts or jackets. For this apple cinnamon variant, L fit like a trash bag. M fit like a medium sized trash bag. S fit! It actually fits my chest, arms, and torso/waist! Don't get too excited though, the shirt tails are awkwardly long. I'm going to get it hemmed bc I really want this shirt to work. But really? What alien shaped thing are you building your clothes to fit on? I'm not kidding, sizing has been an issue for me with llbean for many other things, it's becoming a hassle and frustration just to shop here.

I really like the shirt; The size large tall I purchased is huge for me. The tape measure reads 44 across my chest and I have been wearing tall's (for the sleeves) for years. This one is just to voluminous for me so I ordered a medium tall to try and sending this back. Love the apple cinnamon plaid- will look great at work and in the woods. I haven't worn a medium since ninth grade in the 'eighties. I hope it works out.

My fella is an XL in most short-sleeved shirts, and I originally ordered XL TALL to make sure the sleeves were long enough. The body was quite a bit longer than expected, but the sleeves were just right. I sent back the shirt to try LARGE TALL, but while the body fit just right, the sleeves were not able to accomodate my tall fella. It's not like he has Michael Phelps arms or anything---he just has the reach of a tall guy. My fella is 6'4" and around 220 pounds of mostly muscle. As soon as I hear the shirts have been resized, I will order some. My family likes LLBean, and I have a youngun who, I daresay, will need shirts with longer arms too.

I love that these shirts come in the tall sizes however, this one is extremely large. I joked with my father-in-law about me wearing it as a dress, when he tried it on he said he could wear it as a dress! I had to send it back. They are really nice material and so soft and cozy. The sizing just seems off.

Quality is great, colors look beautiful, sizing is unbelievably large. I ordered a "medium" as that's what I normally order. Medium is the largest medium i've ever purchased. If i had to guess, I'd guess it's a similar size to a XL.

I have ordered many chamois shirts from this company and while I love the colors and fit, every shirt collar ends up curling up after the first wash. I either wear it that way or it has to be ironed to lay down flat.

I bought a different color of what's supposed to be the same shirt 22 months ago--the same item number and still "expertly woven in Portugal," though the tags in both say that they're made in El Salvador. The first one is my go-to winter shirt and I wanted another. The new one is nearly as soft (that may improve with laundering), but it's considerably thinner. It doesn't have the same wrapped-in-a-blanket feel that the first one still has. I wouldn't be surprised to find some minor variation nearly two years later, but at $54.95, it doesn't live up to the description of "plush" and "thicker than the original."

Bought two of these shirts for my sons, one in 'large', and the other in 'x-large'. Both are too big. Otherwise, they appear to be of good quality and the material is substantial.

This is the first time in many years of shopping for clothes on LL Bean that the stated size was incorrect. I order my husband a Large as usual, but this shirt (which had Large on the label) was swimmingly large - so roomy and long that we had to return it. I've just ordered the Medium in hopes that it will fit better. But my faith in LL Bean's sizing standards has been shaken.

As with other Bean purchases, the fit was true and the quality superb. I've purchased perhaps a dozen no shrink tee's and the quality is amazing!

I bought this shirt in two colors. Love the colors and the materials but I ordered the Same size, and style and yet the sleeves on this shirt are considerably shorter. See photos. I laid the two sheets exactly on top of each other and you can see the softeners in arm length. Disappointing!!

This was considerably lighter than the chamois shirt I know and love from LLBean. Was it heavier than the standard flannel? Maybe a little... but it's certainly not even a cousin to the cloth used in a proper chamois shirt. Do not be fooled - it's "heavy flannel" not chamois cloth. It also seems to fit more relaxed (bigger) than the relaxed fit flannel shirts.

This shirt ( normal size large) was a Christmas present for my husband. The sleeves were way to long, and the entire shirt is huge. Will be returning and ordered the shirt in M. Hope that works.

Couldn't tell if this shirt was vanity size or Miss marked. Anyway it was ridiculously large so we had to send it back. Very disappointed because the one we chose was a lovely pattern and we really like the chamois flannel. Also tried to get in touch with Customer Service with a couple of frustrations, only to be even more frustrated after that conversation. Terribly disappointed.

The shirt itself is a nice fabric and great color and style. We have never had such sort sleeves in the tall size from LL Bean, however. The sleeves were two inches too short. I am disappointed that consistency in sizing is not something even companies like LLBean offer anymore. I am happy with their customer service, however. We had free shipping on returns with it LLBean credit card, so that helped.
