Ordered this in the smallest size available; generally for most L.L. Bean products this has always worked fine for me. Even when I bought outerwear in-store, which is generally bigger, the size small works great. This felt like I was wearing an XL. It went down to my knees and swallowed my arms entirely. Don't see how this is possibly a small for anyone. On top of that, it cost me $10 from the original $50 of the purchase to return it for a refund. The fact that I spent $10 just to be disappointed is incredibly frustrating and I will not be looking at any of their shirt products in the future.

My husband saw this plaid, fall colors, Chamois shirt and loved it. I ordered his usual size which is a Regular L. The shirt arrived and we had to send it back as the sleeves were about 3 inches too long. He was so disappointed. He wanted that shirt. First time in over 30 years a Regular L did not fit properly.

Wish I had read the most recent reviews about sizing issues with this shirt.... I am 5'9 and 175lbs and other medium LL bean shirts fit me great. However the Medium regular Chamois shirt is much to large for me though. The bottom of the shirt reaches my mid thigh, about 5 inches longer than necessary. Also the extra material in the chest and arms make it more of a relaxed fit than traditional fit. I The material and colors are great, but unfortunately the sizing is off.

We have been buyers of this shirt for decades and loved it for the fit and quality. The sizing for regular medium always fit perfectly. Now, the medium sleeves are about much longer, the sleeves are baggy, and the overall shirt fits like a bag or a shirt jacket. So we had to return the medium to try a small. The sleeves fit like the medium used to but the rest of the shirt is too small and tight in the chest area for a medium build person.
So we can no longer buy this shirt or other llBean shirts with the current sizing. We are very disappointed.

I've been buying my husband shirts like this for years...same size every time XLT. This one was huge! Too long, and too big in the body. Normally even tall shirts have sleeves too short for him -- the sleeves on this one were way longer than his long arms.
It's going back and now I'm unsure what size to buy for him!

Really liked the look of this item when it came and in the product descriptions, but after 2 washings at manufacturers settings, the fabric looks terrible and has pilled. LL Bean exchanged it for another type. The one I am returning looks like a pajama top. Love the no hassle exchange policy.

Normally I wear XL, so I ordered an XL. It. Was. HUGE. It was like a dress. Sent it back (on my dime of course) for a large. Fit fairly well if I were to tuck it in, but I don't roll like that. Dunno how tall the guys are in the photos showing the shirts, but they must be far taller than me, because the shirt looked normal on them. I'm 5'9", so if you want one of these shirts, be careful, they are LONG. And you will probably want to order a size down than what you are used to. I won't be ordering from LL Bean again, I spent $13 in returns to find out that neither size fits me, which is a shame because I really liked the color of the shirt, and the quality seemed superb.

I have had three blue plaid shirts in the last five years and when I fold the right sleeve (two folds) the material tears in the fold after awhile. I have three other colors over the same period of time, same use, and never had a problem. By the way, I am left handed so it is not due to the use!

The shirt itself looked and felt great. A nice comfy warm shirt for our cold winter evenings. I ordered 2 shirts from LL Bean, both were ordered in the same size and both were marked the same size as I ordered, however, this shirt was 2 or 3 sizes larger than the first shirt. The sleeves went to the middle of my hands, the shoulder seams hung off my shoulders and the tail ended below my butt. I had to return it and was annoyed that I would have to pay a return fee. Worse I didn't order another shirt because I didn't know what size to get. One of the shirts was made in Vietnam and the other in Honduras, but that shouldn't have made any difference.

This is the second of the 'new generation' of Chamois men's shirts I've purchased in the past two months. Both look good, feel great and the generous fit works well layered over my clergy shirts. Both shirts snagged and ripped in the first month of wear and not on sharp objects but something so mundane as the corner of a kitchen counter top. When I compared the 'new generation' fabric to two of my older chamois shirts, I found the new ones to be of a softer hand but flimsier material. My wife mended the first but after the second snag and tear, I'll sadly be returning both for a refund.

I have tried many times to buy L.L.Bean clothing. This is my last! Nothing ever fits. The pants are way too baggy, shirt sleeves way too short and bodies way too big. I an an average lean person, not a 300lb lumberjack. L.L.Bean needs new models for designing theit close.

Do not order this shirt in medium size. I's tagged "M" but is almost an extra large. Sleeves over 2 inches longer than same shirts I have and worn for over 30 years. I have in my closet the same shirts that were made in: USA, Mexico, Bulgaria and El Salvador. All of these 11 shirts, plain & camo, fit. The first shirt was returned and a call made to Bean. I requested a 2nd be sent with the size being verified and true to size. 2nd shirt received and same over sized problem. Called again and told size was checked and was up to spec. If this is true, you should change your traditional fit description, or maybe the rep. was misinformed. I had similar problem with wool hunting shirt several years ago. Labeled "M" but was at least 2 sizes larger. Where's the quality control on something as simple as putting the correct size tag on a garment?

I've bought several medium sized shirts from L.L. Bean and the fit has always been good. Unfortunately, the chamois shirt doesn't even come close to a decent fit. The sleeves seem to be 36" or 37" in length. The collar does not accommodate my 15 1/2" neck. The shirt hem reaches nearly to my knees and is impossible to tuck into trousers. The shirt, which I'm returning, is either mislabeled or was not quality checked for fit. Certainly the fit does not match the high quality of the fabric.
