I was very pleased with this very comfortable shirt. I was a little worried how soft it would be, and it lived up to my hopes. It was very comfortable and soft.
It did run a little larger than typical, so that is about the only downside of the purchase.

Very well-made, beautiful, warm and cozy shirt. I bought it for my husband and he has worn it every day since it arrived. He's thrilled with it and I enjoy seeing him so well dressed when casual. The only thing that would make it a perfect, five-star shirt would be slightly larger front pockets -- that's where he wears his cellphone. The pocket is too small to accommodate his cell phone.

I'm a relatively large athletic guy with longer arms (my dress shirts are 16.5 collar with 36/37 sleeves) and broad shoulders (44L suit jackets) so I ordered a large tall. Right out of the bag the shirt feels incredibly soft and warm like your favorite afternoon couch nap blanket. The shoulders and the sleeves fit perfectly, however the torso is rediculously long by about 5inches. I'm planning to order a regular large to see if it fits any better. If not, I plan to keep the large/tall and to get it tailored as it seriously is that comfortable/well made.

I like these shirts and I own several, the tailoring and fabric is good and they hold their shape well after many washings. I give them only four stars because of the smaller size of the pockets. If the pockets get any smaller I will not continue to purchase these shirts. Why have pockets on shirts become just a fashion trend? It seems like many manufacturers make shirt pockets too small to hold more than a credit card. I like to carry my sunglasses and cell phone in mine and I want to button in the phone and glasses because I still work, hike, etc and I want what's in the pockets to stay in the pockets. It also seems to me that the sizing of the shirt has changed. I now need to order a medium where for decades I needed a large . It's not like my six pack isn't now a keg, I would understand needing a larger size. The size of the shirt I can deal with, the incredible shrinking pockets, no can do. Make the pockets a little bigger not a little smaller, it's supposed to be an outdoor hiking, fishing, etc. type shirt not a fashion statement dress shirt fer ell sake.

I have purchased several of these shirts over the years, and find them well made, warm and comfortable. This last purchase maintains the same quality, but the sizing is way off. All of my previous size medium shirts fit somewhat loosely, but work well as a second layer. This purchase, again a medium, could easily fit someone needing a large; very full cut and exceptionally long. Will be returning for a small.

This shirt is soft & warm with a relaxed comfortable fit. The plaid looks good, it washes well and the sleeves are long enough for me even after machine washing & drying. I appreciate that it is long enough to stay tucked in, a feature lacking on many of today's shirts. The only reason I only gave it four stars is that the pockets aren't large enough for my reading glasses, which is why I usually stick to shirts with open pockets. I'm glad that L.L. Bean has kept this classic shirt in their inventory.

Material and fits have changed. Not as good or as special a shirt as they were just a few years ago. Not coincidentally, I suspect, no longer made in USA but China. LL might be stirring a bit in his grave over that.
Still a very good flannel shirt, just not the old chamois I used to love.

I have a bunch of chamois shirts and have enough experience to comment. I purchased two of the plaid "chamois" shirts recently because I liked the colors (chamois and charcoal gray heather). I have negative and positive comments about these shirts. They are not the chamois shirts I am used to. They are too soft, not a bit stiff. But...they are the best heavy flannel shirts ever! They are soft and warm. The fit is a bit full and longer than most, but that's ok because the sleeves fit me perfectly on the second button. May I suggest a new category of LLB shirts? "Heavier Flannel!"

I've had one of these shirts for years and finally wore a hole in one sleeve. It's my favorite heavy flannel. I bought 2 more and while I like them, the fit is different. They fit in the shoulders but it hangs like a tent. My wife has been able to shrink them enough that they're OK - but still a little big. I'm older and wear a regular fit so I'm surprised with the way these fit. In no way do I require a slim fit.

The shirt color and style is great. I bought XXL Tall as I normally would but this particular shirt is huge. I washed it hoping it would shrink some what but it is still way too big. Wish I had bought an XL instead............A good shirt; maybe I can use it as a jacket but disappointed that its way too big to wear as a normal shirt...maybe it was miss marked and is an XXXL ??

If you like flannel shirts, but do not like the bulk of traditional shirts, then you will enjoy these LL Bean shirts. They are thinner and more comfortable than a regular heavy flannel shirt. They breath easier, they fit loser and are comfortable with plenty of room to flex. Because of their light weight, they make the perfect transition clothing from fall into winter.

Pockets are too shallow to hold my reading glasses or pen. I would gladly pay more for another 3/4".

I've always worn large size shirts. This shirt was very large. Returned it for a medium. Material is very soft and nice. (Another shirt I ordered of a different style fit well in a large.)

The shirt is a nice looking shirt, I have been wearing it regularly since receiving it. It is larger than a regular size shirt so my wife thinks it look like it doesn't fit me properly. It has started to have some pilling though it hasn't been washed yet. Hoping that will not get worse and that it will tighten up and fit closer after washing.

I always order from Bean, because the sizing is consistent as well as the quality! So I almost never have to return, and even though I cannot try it on, I know it will fit and I'll be happy. Please do not change your sizing or factories you use!!!!!!!

Sleeves were 3" to long, tails to my knees. Probably ordered 50 size med shirts in the past and never had this problem . Had to send back, hope to get the sizing right this time.

Never had a piece of clothing that has received such favorable comments from strangers as I get with this chamois shirt!

I ordered a medium, which I normally wear when ordering from L.L. Bean. This shirt swallowed me, both in the shoulders and arms length. I'm ordering a small and returning this one.

I recently bought two of these chamois shirts, it's been several years since I last purchased this type. Charcoal Gray solid and Apple-Cinnamon plaid, size XL-Tall. The size was good, material and stitching appear good, they went through their first wash well, and I love the colors. Five star, EXCEPT for the pockets.
I'm one who uses his shirt pockets, and I prefer two pocket shirts, which these are. And since I keep stuff in my pockets, I also prefer pocket flaps, in order to keep things safely in without having to keep buttoning the pockets.
These days the item I most likely want to keep secure is my smartphone. Don't carry a purse, so pants pockets are the only alternative, and those pants pockets leave the phone much more susceptible to damage. My phone isn't one of the monster sizes, it's Apple's current smallest offered phone, an iPhone 7.
These pockets are disappointingly shallow, too short by at least an inch. And when pockets have flaps, too shallow means both that protection from falling out is greatly lessened, AND as soon as the phone sticks up barely above the pocket top, the flap will sick out and not lay down properly.
I have LLBean lined Hurricane lined shirts bought two years ago, and those pockets are at least an inch deeper. Just about right.
For those of you who are interested in the look of the pocket flaps against the plaid shirt pattern, know that LLBean folks were a bit deceptive with the photo of the Apple-Cinnamon shirt on their current website. It shows the pockets' plaid pattern color perfectly matched against the shirts, making the flaps nearly invisible against the shirt. Yours will likely not come like that. Mine has the flap pattern line up with the vertical stripes, but not the horizontal pattern color. So my flaps stand out more than the web photo. Apparently the folks who do the stitching in El Salvador don't have the time or the inclination to sort through all their flaps to find the perfect match. Not really a big deal to me, but may be to you.
The shirts are nice enough to keep me from sending them back, even with my pocket frustration. But I won't be buying more.

I love the shirt. I had previously ordered the large tall but returned it because it was too long and too big. I just received the large regular and it fits very good but is still a little bit big. But I am going to keep it. It is surprising how different shirts fit even when you order the same size. I also ordered the overland performance flannel in a large regular and it fit great. The material is top notch.

I bought one each of the Deep Red and the Deep Wine shirts. They are comfortable, warm and the fit is nice. (Tall, medium) But strangely enough, the shirts are very different. The Deep Red is much thicker and heavier than the Deep Wine. Maybe one was previous years' stock? Regardless of the difference in material they are both warm, comfortable shirts and I wouldn't hesitate buying another. Just beware of the inconsistency in the material.

Got the red and black. Love the look and feel of it. They are pretty baggy so some shrinking after washing is fine but the sleeves shrink more than expected, can be an issue if longer than usual arms. Husband is typically an L but M was the right fit, even in arm length (we did order M and L to compare). After washing arm length is a touch too small. Overall the shirt is a bit too long but wait until after washing to decide if you really need to do anything about it.
I ordered the S for myself and although pretty big for a 5'2", 135lb female it is a great cozy look with skinny jeans or leggings.

Love the shirt but way too long for a shorter person. Unfortunately, I had to return the two that I purchased as gifts. LLB quality, well made.

The material it's great for winter. It's thick, warm. The thing to improve it's the design. The shirt it's too loose on the core and waist. You have to do a military fold to tuck it into the pants so it doesn't look "baggy" or are you describe "relaxed". The sleeve are a little bit long.
It would be perfect
If it were slim down to the waist at least and the sleeves a little short.

Warm, sized very well. This is the second one I've purchased in the last year. Wish they'd make them a little less "fuzzy". Dirt sticks to 'em, like crazy.
