I have this coat and it's by far the best I've ever owned.
BUT I managed to misplace/lose the detachable hood.
Called NF and was flat told they do not stock/sell a replacement hood.
Are you kidding me!!
WHY NOT??
It's mfg'd and inventoried separately so what's the big deal?
It makes little if any sense
Disappointed NF purchaser/advocate of/for the brand.

I'm searching for a winter coat to keep me warm in Colorado winters. I bought TNF's McMurdo parka and other options from Marmot, Mountain Hardwear, Jack Wolfskin, Outdoor Research, and Eddie Bauer. TNF is very clear that the McMurdo has 600-fill-power down, but when you're evaluating warmth, it's also very helpful to know the down-fill weight (meaning, how much of the 600-fill-power down is packet into the jacket). When I contacted them, literally every other company - no kidding, every single one - helpfully shared the fill weights for their jackets, but TNF refused, saying that info was "proprietary". That was a very disappointing, non-customer-focused answer from TNF. Eddie Bauer has a very similar-looking down parka to the McMurdo, but it has 650-fill-power down AND they helpfully told me their jacket has 120g of down packed inside, so I went with that one vs TNF's McMurdo.

Very warm jacket but the sleeves were too small/short and body was too big around waist. I'm 6'2" approx 210 lbs and tried size XL. Had to return.

I love my short parkamy only problem is the Velcro catches the material at the beginning of the sleeves.

My new 3xl fits good in the shoulders and lots of neck room. With no drawstring, it kinda bites. Very baggy in the waist. Not good. I need to wear a belt to keep it snug.

Very comfy and warm. Color looks great. Kinda bulky and no draw cord strings and wind might get underneath the coat.

I'm 6'1" with a 39" chest just like the model shown wearing Medium. So why does the Medium fit me like muumuu? With no strap or drawstring to keep wind from blowing up from the bottom, no elastic "storm cuffs" inside the ginormous outer shell velcro cuffs, just a few buttons loosely holding the fur trim onto the hood, no amount of down fill is going to keep you completely warm in this parka on a cold, windy day. Compared to the high quality of my 12 year old NF McMurdo Bomber, this parka is a disappointment, even at a huge discount. Returned. North Face's shipping and return policy are excellent though!

I have a lot of puffers for hiking but wanted something super warm yet waterproof and windproof for commuting in wintery conditions. This parka checked all the boxes. However I was not expecting this coat to be so baggy. Both the sleeves and body of the coat feel oversized. I knew from reading reviews that it ran large so I purposely sized down to a small but it's still too big. even the sleeves and sleeve cuffs are goofy wide, making my hands look like little doll hands by sticking out. What was TNF thinking here? You pretty much have to use the Velcro cuff tabs to tighten them. Otherwise cold air will go right up your sleeve. This would be the ultimate winter parka if it just fit a little more snugly. Unfortunately though, I will be returning this coat. TNF needs to step up their game. I have a lot of TNF gear from over the years and I have to say I've always liked the quality of their stuff until recently. This is the third thing in a row this year that I was disappointed with and ended up returning. Not thrilled with TNFs design and quality as of late. This stuff is too expensive to not be near perfect.

I bought this for a ski/ snowshoeing/ winter hiking trip that was supposed to be in near 0F temps - however, weather happened and it ended up being 40F most days With just a mid weight performance base layer I was dying in this parka with almost any type of physical exhaustion. But that's not my grievance other than once the interior gets wet with sweat, it takes a long time to dry out and stinks to high heaven of goose feathers.
The crucial defect is in the interior chest pocket having a covered fly full placket. This parka is ostensibly designed to be used with gloves, therefore the ornamental only nature of the placket, all but snags itself in the all-to-delicate zipper.
I would need to cut out the placket from the zipper hours into the first ski trip to retrieve my phone being held prisoner.

I work outside and purchased this as a replacement for my old parka. NF has really cheapened this coat to an urban wearers coat.
Another company to stop purchasing items from.

I'm 6'2 225 and the sleeves on these are a bit short. Wished they had a tall version because this is a warm jacket

Nice jacket, but the finishes are lackluster.
-Weak/thin hanging hook: This is a heavy jacket, yet the loop sewn into the jacket for hanging is quite flimsy feeling. I get the sense it's straining the jacket and overtime this might be a point of failure.
-No internal pockets: If you're buying a jacket like this, chances are you're wearing a beanie, gloves, scarf etc. I would have expected an internal pocket for holding these accessory clothing items.
-Tiny zipper: Again, you're going to be wearing gloves. The zipper is comically small considering that factor, so you have to take your gloves off to adjust.
It's a nice jacket, but it just doesn't feel thoughtfully designed. Like someone designed it in a warm climate and never wore it out?

The material feel good and it is certainly warm. I would easily trust this in the worst winter conditions. However the fit is very boxy and unfortunately is visually unappealing for the average body type.

I'm 5'8" 190 lbs athletic build, and normally wear a Large for a snug fit and an XL for a relaxed fit. This coat I ordered in Large bc the reviews said it runs big. The Large was so big my wife started laughing when I put it on, it would have fit two of me in the belly area and I wear size 33" waist pants, so I'm not malnourished. I'm hesitant to order a Medium bc then I bet the shoulders will be too tight. I'm giving 3 stars bc the coat would probably be nice if the sizing was in the right zip code of being correct. Needless to say I'm sending it back!

Nice and thick and seems warm but the material itself seems cheap now. I have several north face coats and this one feels like the cheapest. I wish they had this coat without the glaring white logo.

Not meant to be slim fit. Im 6'3 195 got a L and fits pretty wide. The M fit good but the sleeves are too short. I'm working out to get bigger so I'm okay with the large fitting wide.
