This coat is warm and I love it. However, the zipper stopped working 2 weeks after purchasing it. I now have to send it in and wait 6-8 weeks for a repair which is less than ideal in the middle of winter

Overall decent jacket but I do have some cons.
I wish they put some kind of adjustable elastic band in the middle and at the bottom of the jacket. It's too loose and cold air gets in from the bottom.

I bought the same jacket 10 years ago and I loved it I don't know why they changed the design, hood used to be removable it had fleece lining around the neck and it used to feel a bit heavier and felt like it's hugging me properly all that is gone now it feels like the right size but way too wide as it's designed to fit very a medium obese I bought medium size and the lower end of the jacket looks almost as I'm wearing a dress I can fit myself twice in this thing and there's no way to adjust the waist or chest fit like it used to if it was medium for average size people waist size 32-35 it would be acceptable. Bottom line it's a warm enough jacket but better go to the store try what they have on before purchase

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
This is a well-constructed product with one major flaw. The opening at the hem is too big and that compromises overall warmth. I have a synthetic jacket with less insulation that is almost as warm as the McMurdo III, simply because there is virtually no air flow at the hem. I purchased the McMurdo hoping it would be much warmer, but returned it after I found that this was not the case. In all other respects, I feel the jacket is great for the money. It has excellent insulation, solid construction, a roomy interior that allows for layer, and a decent hood. If North Face fixes the problem with the hem in the future, I would buy a McMurdo in a heartbeat.

Wanted: warm jacket for Ottawa temperatures /wind/ snow conditions to walk out of the apartment, get on a bus, and take off at work, without being overdressed.

The top part fits well, but the bottom part is way too roomy and baggy. There is nowhere on the website that mention it is relaxed fit.

I loved the jacket but hated the hood. I was hoping it was removable, but it isn't. I returned it for a refund. If North face ever makes this without a hood, I get one.

I loved my McMurdo Parka from 2014 to 2021, unfortunately it was stolen. I ordered a replacement in the same size but the fit has changed totally (M too small, L too large and the sleeves were comically wide). Returned and got a Gotham, more of a bomber cut but a much better fit.

The large fit is way too large.
The two pockets in the front not classy.
I am slim and this jacket makes me look fat.
Not becoming. Northface can do better.

Where do I start? The parka is warm and well-insulated for cold weather, but it suffers from serious design flaws. The Velcro at the cuffs gradually tears them apart, almost as if it were a built-in self-destruct feature. Over time, the cuffs become completely unusable.
Worse still, while it's normal for your hands to feel dry or cracked in the cold, the pocket zippers on this jacket are incredibly abrasive. I've actually cut my hands multiple times just reaching into the pockets to the point where I avoid wearing this jacket altogether. Instead, I've switched back to other gear from The North Face that's treated me much better.
I don't know if newer versions have addressed these issues, but my experience with this generation of the McMurdo Parka has been disappointing and frustrating.

Wow has this product changed in three years. I already owned this model parka and it was very warm and exceptionally well constructed. I cannot say that about this current purchase at all. The zippers have downgraded from heavy and durable metal zippers to light, plastic zippers that seem ready to break at any moment. The buttons that were heavy duty again are not replaced with velcro and the hood is no longer detachable. This is a very poor substitute and I wish I had not bought it online as I would not have bought it in person. It is not worth the price at all.

Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice shame on you. I won't get fooled again
The coat does the job of providing warmth and keeping you warm. But when it comes to the inner linings of a jacket. It's quite poor, I returned my first jacket that I bought because there was dozens of feathers coming out of the linings. I thought that this had to be a malfunction since it is a higher end coat for the brand. Unfortunately it hasn't, I am on my second coat and just morethan a month in, feathers are poking through the linings making the coat uncomfortable unless I am wearing a thick hoodie underneath it. I reside in a climate where the coat is needed nearly every day Dec-March.
But like I said at the start of the review. The coat does its job for the most part but I swill only stick with it because I put up significant cash. If I had the cash back I wouldn't buy this coat again.

Just a cautionary review. After eyeing this jacket for a long time, I finally decided to purchase it during an online Black Friday sale with a 25% discount. For reference, I'm a male, average build, 6 ft tall, and 180 lbs. I purchased both a Medium and a Large to find the best fit.
After days of deliberation, I ended up returning both. The Medium felt too tight, especially when zipped up, particularly around the neck area, while the Large seemed too big, with noticeable "tenting" at the bottom. I took the jacket for a trial walk in the cold on a -15C (5F) day and, honestly, it didn't feel any warmer than my Carhartt Yukon Extreme jacket, which I'm currently wearing this winter.
Overall, while the McMurdo is a fine jacket, it simply doesn't seem worth the value given its exuberant pricing. Your mileage may vary, but this was my experience.

I have two of these parkas. One is almost 9 years old, and one is a year old. The 9yr old parka was made so much better. Big difference in quality and features.

The jacket is undeniably warm and comfortable; however, I was quite disappointed right from the very first day of wearing it. Unfortunately, I noticed that fluff started coming out, which was not something I expected from this product.

In no way am I trying to insult company NorthFace. I've been a customer for over 20 years. I have always praised their products. In my honest opinion, this new version isn't your best work. It feels more like a shell material this time around. I'm a big dude. 6'4 275lbs. I desire something more durable, like your previous version of the McMurdo. This one makes me feel like I need to be extra careful not to snag it on something every time I move. The Velcro seems so weak. I hope in the future, you'll recognize you had an awesome parka and revert back to the old model. I know with time comes change, but if it isn't brokendon't fix it.

Extremely Disappointed; this is my 3rd McMurdo (both previous ones were stolen) and by far the WORST. Being a TNF customer for 20+ years, it's obvious corporate greed is killing the product.

The velcros are so hard and sharp that they destroy everything - car belts, the jacket itself (pretty quickly), sweaters...
The collar's edge always flips inwards and pushes under under your chin.
The jacket is warm, but I wouldn't buy it again. The above 2 make wearing it unpleasant to frustrating.

Was planning to buy this jacket since the last two years. Looked awesome when I purchased. After a month sharp feather like objects started coming out from all parts of the jacket and had to return it. Will have to wait until next Thanksgiving to buy a jacket :(
