This shoe has so many seams inside and on the tongue I couldn’t get my foot in . My orthotics didn’t sit flat , they rocked back and forth on the mid foot . Disappointing how much this changed from the previous model.

Several years ago, New Balance was the only athletic shoe I could find that had half sizes in wide width (D). I thought this might work in a standard width (B) but found it too narrow.

They my feet on the side of my foot my left foot. Like something was wrong with the shoe. Thank you!

There is plenty of room for my toes compared to the other shoe I ordered.

This style of shoe runs about 1/2 large, so I ordered an 8 instead of my usual power walking size of 8.5. Very nice!

The reason this shoe--and many other NB shoes these days--feels shorter than labeled is because of the excessive padding behind the heel, which pushes the foot forward in the shoe. Please, please bring back the 1080 v9. Wide toe box, narrower heel and no excessive padding around the ankle.

This was my second purchase of NB 840. I have a grey pair that I use for walking every morning and they are very comfortable and supportive. I wanted another pair in a darker color to use on a vacation to Ireland in April. Great shoes and look good too.

The NB 840v5 fits very similar to other versions of NB 840s. They are quite comfortable, hold up well and most importantly are a true wide width so they are one of the few shoes that fit my wide feet!

Ordered shoes 08/06/2022. These were my 3rd pair of 840's and they have always been true to size. These shoes were too small from the start, and rather than returning them, I gave them a chance by wearing them around the house. Finally decided to keep them and put them in service. After one wearing for real, my right foot was totally sore. Ended up giving them away, near new to a local charity. Have since bought 840v5's in the same 10 D size at a local retailer, and they fit like they should have right out of the box. Price + tax at retailer was the same as what I paid at Zappos. Lesson learned. If they're a fair priced item, use the local retailer first.

After enjoying New Balance for many years, these just feel cheaply made in comparison.

I LOVE these so much I bought more because you know they will change them up in the next version. The toe box is large and wonderful. The arch is perfect, I don't even need my orthotics. They're not especially attractive, wide feet people don't have much fun with shoes.

These shoes fit great, like other reviews the toe box felt a little wide, but are fine for me. I do wish New Balance would get away from the mesh, I don't want my toes to come thru with wear. They are great for support without being too stiff.

I can’t find athletic shoes that fit better or wear better. The kind I need don’t seem to ever get marked down, which is unfortunate, but good shoes really matter, so, I’ll stick with NB 840’s.

For a while I was finding NB to suddenly run short. Not any more! Great feet. Feel so good on my feet!

I’m very disappointed with this shoe. I can only hope the next version will mirror the previous v4. Runs large and very clunky. Also the flat shoestrings are way too short.

New Balance fit my feet. Women's Size 11 Wide. I have a bunion and high arches so I need a wide shoe box and I use an orthotic insert in my shoes. These fit great! I'm purchasing another pair now!

Out of the box they are comfortable. Trying them in the house and all seems good to go. Toe box is pretty roomy, more than I'm used to but will go with it. Color over all is kind of a light silver grey. Soft foot bed but not to foamy. Has good support.

I was looking for a wide walking and gym shoe with a wide toe box to accommodate my bunion and arthritis and this shoe is quite comfortable.

Orthotics don’t fit this oddly constructed shoe. They really messed it up. The previous model was much better

Finally, a comfortable sneaker that fits my ever-widening feet. The extra width definitely shows - I wish they didn't make my feet look quite so clown-like. However, I can wear them without discomfort while on my feet all day, which is what I was looking for. A good sneaker for wide feet. Would recommend.

I've worn many past versions of the women's 840. The top on this one seems harder, less pliable. I'm having difficulty breaking them in. Also, this iteration has slits for shoe laces rather than round eyelets. They are skinny, hard to lace, hard to adjust laces... I don't like this aspect at all. Hopefully with time they'll soften and be more comfortable.

I have been ordering and wearing New Balance 840s. This pair were a full 1/2 inch smaller that all of my old 840s

I liked the prior iteration of these so much that I came back for this one, having worn the old ones to death. Last summer during a month of walking a lot on concrete and cobbles in Paris and I alternated between the NB 840v4 and my Hokas. By the end of the trip I wore the NB all the time—much better on my knees and hips for walking. I went to a New Balance store to try on the 840v5 along with several other models, but these are the best combination of firmness and padding for me. I also need a wide shoe, and this one in wide has the toe box room but a heel that does not slip. I left the store wearing a pair, then came to Zappos to order the extra wide which they did not have in the store. I can wear both, but am happy with the extra toe wiggle room in the extra wide. The style—well, to me they look like athletic shoes, style really isn’t the point, but as these things go, they look fine.
