All is good, except I really preferred the earlier versions. they were so much more comfortable, better made, and lasted a long time. these took a bit longer to break-in.

Within 3 months the plastic that provides support for the back of the heel /ankle came through the fabric causing blisters.

I have to return these shoes because although I normally wear a New Balance size 5B, these feel about a half size too long.

I wear New Balance regularly and this one just felt off. It didn't really bend and it was shorter than I'm used to for my usual size. I'm sorry to say, for me, it felt like a cheap knock-off. Also, and this is specific to me, it has zero arch support and cushioning which are both important to me.

It's been four years since I last ordered a pair of New Balance; at the time it was hard to find ANY styles in extra-wide width and those were only available in Men's styles, something women who need sizing in 12+ have faced for most of my adult life. My old New Balance were not meant for fitness walking or running, i.e., they were more of a daily life shoe and did not work well for spending time at the gym. So I was VERY delighted to discover size 13 extra-wide in Women's styles and took a chance -- they are fantastic. Love the support at ankle and the noticeably improved cushioning/support through the arch and heel. Keep this up, New Balance, and you'll have a loyal buyer!

I was disappointed to find that these shoes were too small...I am currently wearing a pair of 840v4 and they fit just fine but the v5 does not give me enough room for the toes.

bought too big a size by mistake. My son has very wide feet and the shoe fit him well in the front. Ordering another pair in his size.

I had 2 pair of 840 4s that I wore for literally years. I ordered a pair of 840 5s and would like to stress comfort and sizing were great BUT the padded collars rub my ankle bones to the point I can't wear them. I skipped first two eyelets and still rubbing. Must be a slight style change? They are going to someone. A shame as they are brand new and I need shoes. I would like to stress it is a very comfortable shoe if this is not a problem for your ankles. M

I suffer from several foot problems...flat feet, plantar fasciitis, neuropathy. After searching, for what felt like forever, I finally found a sneaker I can wear all day in comfort! I found that I needed to order a half size larger than my normal sneaker size and they fit perfect. I do wear a wide and there was plenty of wiggle room for my toes. I just ordered a second pair!

I love Zappos, and I love New Balance. I love Zappos because of your great selection and you make exchanges as well as purchases so easy. I love New Balance because their shoes provide a lot of support and stability and they fit my feet--most of the time. I had written a previous review because it seemed like the sizing on 840v5 had changed. And for the version of this shoe that I bought from Zappos that was manufactured in the summer of 2021, it did change. However, I decided to order another pair because my earlier pair did work with larger socks, and to my surprise, New Balance actually shortened the shoe. And it was manufactured in the summer of 2022. I didn't know that New Balance changed the sizing for the same version, manufactured at different times. And so I'll close with another compliment to Zappos. This time, the change in fit worked out for me, but if it didn't, I know I could have returned the shoes. Thank you Zappos!

Due to my own silly vanity at 65 years, I avoided New Balance as an "old person shoe". Ha! My husband bought me a pair of 840's and I LOVE them. So much, I ordered my second pair! My foot has changed and New Balance is my new go to exercise and gone shopping shoe! Thanks to Zappos, I was able to get my size, style and color I wanted!!!

New Balance keeps changing how they size their shoes, and it's annoying because there's no 840v5 that truly works for me. I was an 11 and 1/2 M in v3. In the v4, I jumped to a 12 M, but that was okay because the shoe fit. Now with v5, I have to buy two different sizes. I wear 11 and 1/2M with narrow socks, and a 12M with heavier socks. The 12 in v5 is considerably larger than the v4. And ironically, it's the reverse problem with the 860's. I really do love New Balance shoes, but please go back to your previous sizing.

I've been wearing the New Balance 840v4 shoe in a 10.5 wide with Superfeet insoles. The 840v5 shoe in a 10.5 wide has a sloppier fit and is looser over the toe box. The length is about the same. The laces cannot be tightened enough to adjust the fit to my foot without causing dimpling over the toe area. Back they go. This shoe doesn't work for me, but might work for somebody with very wide feet.

Have had multiple pairs of the 840 over the years. The sneaker get updates (now Version 5), but still my go to for lots of walking and just on my feet all day long! Love them! I wear a wide. New Balance is wonderful for offering different widths. Great fit.

Normally I wear 7.5 W in regular non-athletic shoes, 8.5 W in New Balance. The 8.5W was a good width, but my toe rubbed at the end of the shoe. I would have tried it anyway, but the footbed had a ridge at the outside of my foot that felt odd and pushed into what I believe is called the cuboid. I would like to replace my old worn out 890 v.6 New Balance shoes, but the 840 v.5 isn't going to work.

Strange color. Should be grey, but is more of a lavender purple. Shoes do not say V5. Is this an original 840 that had a defective color??

They were an extra wide shoe. I have worn many New Balance and these were no where near the same quality. There was no cushioning .

I’ve been wearing these for a week now and I’m really not satisfied with the comfort. My feet are pretty achy after walking in them. I think the soles are stiffer. My 1080’s were much nicer in comfort. I think I’m sending these back.

After wearing these a week, they’re not as comfortable as my 1080’s. I think the soles feel stiffer. My feet are tired after wearing them. Which I did not have with the 180’s

I needed a flexible cushioned walking shoe with good arch support. This would have fit the bill, but the softer and lighter weight Fresh FoamX880v13 was even better.

Beautiful shoe. I've moved from 13N to 13M in New Balanance shoes. I'm a size 12 but I size up to give room for my orthotics. These shoes were wide enough but too short.

I used to buy the American made or assembled 940 series. I loved these shoes, and have not bought any others. When they finally wore out, I found only one color in black. So the search was on. I tried four pairs, and finally this 840 seems to be the one. It works in the heel area and toe box. The first day, I had to adjust to having arch support again. The next day, the shoes feel good. I got the pair with the melon trim. I’m almost tempted the get the pair with the dark pink and eclipse colors to alternate. But they are a bit expensive. Still, it might be worth it to take the advice a a reviewer on Zappos who said when you find your shoe, buy another pair since they change the designs often.

My last NB lasted 4-5 years. I knew I needed a new pair since my feet started to hurt again. These are a different style but they make my feet feel so good. When I put them in I feel relief. Good fit, comfort and look.
