I am a size 6 in shoes but size up to 6.5 in athletic/running shoes. Had to size up to a 7 in these for a proper fit. While they seemed to have great cushion and support the tongue on the shoe was very long and rubbed into the ankle. Wore for about 5 minutes in the house and it was obvious these would not work. Unfortunately, had to return.

I have very wide feet and the fit of this while running is the most comfortable shoe I've had. But the durability is awful. Holes in the toe after a few months and the sole is peeling away on the bottom outside of the shoes on both of them.

Been holding off on getting these with all the bad reviews, but decided to take a chance. The tongue issue is not an issue for me. made sure my socks are hight enough. I also saw that someone had folded over the tougue so I was going to use that trick if it was an issue for me. I will say it's not as plush as the torin 4.5 plush.....which is my favorite model so far. Long time Altra shoe buyer here....I do wish Altra would respond to peoples reviews on their site once posted. Kind of makes you think they are not paying attention to all the loyal customers that they have and they do seem to have a lot. It would be nice to see Altra more involved with their customers. Hoping that they bring back the plush torin model again. Fingers crossed.

Love the shoe, despise the stiff very uncomfortable tongue! Have to wear a taller sock, so I don't get cut by the sharpness of it..... I am tempted to trim it down, but not sure if it would still hold up. Definitely needs to be improved upon.

I have arthritis in my right big toe, and accommodating that is what I care about most. The Altra shoe is what my podiatrist recommends and I’ve been wearing them for years because it helps. The tongue of the shoe cuts into my ankle and I am trying to move it around as I’ll wear the shoes so that it doesn’t. I think I am going to wear them outside tomorrow, which means I will be keeping them. Boy, I wish the shoe tongue was not as firm as it is. I might have to cut it, which I really don’t want to do. To spend this much money on a pair of sneakers and not have them be perfect, yes a little upsetting

I purchased these with high hopes, they have nice padding, love the design (allowing for toe-spreading), super comfortable mostly, quality product. The one caveat that made me send them back was the tongue-it is made of a stiff material (not like a normal, padded running shoe-tongue) that wouldn't be comfortable for longer runs. Such a bummer. I'm hoping that Altra changes this design flaw in the future so I can purchase a pair and keep them.

This is my third pair of Torins and I agree with others: Get half a size bigger. They are more stiff than past models and less cushiony, however I am glad they covered the entire bottom with tread this time and didn't leave exposed foam that wears down super fast. The worst part really is the tongue. All my socks are low and so I have painful cuts on my ankles from my runs. At the price of these shoes it's a ridiculous thought that I need to go buy higher socks to wear them comfortably. I don't get how this tongue design could have made it into production. Anyone who tests this shoe would immediately experience the pain.

This is my 7th pair of Altras - I have cycled through Escalantes and Torins, and found the Torins were the best for me due to the level of cushion and running longer distances (I trained and ran previously in Torin 4's for a full marathon - I am mostly a road runner, occasionally run trail).
This is my 4th pair of Torins and the first time I put them on, I questioned if I had got the right size. They felt tighter and stiffer. I went for a run and like the others, barely ran 3 miles before getting blisters from the hard tongue. I have found this avoidable by wearing higher socks so it hasn't been an issue since but it definitely caught me by surprise as I stopped getting blisters from running since running in Altras.
After putting more miles on the shoe (about 75, and I personally normally get 350-450 miles on a shoe) I will say the Torin 5 is overall much stiffer (in the heel counter and heel counter support area, as well as the upper part of the shoe) and feel less cushiony than previous models. I took a big break from running and these were my new shoes to get me going again, so I haven't run more than 3 miles at a time in this pair. They are not as comfortable as previous Torin models (previous models genuinely felt like clouds) and I thought they would loosen up a bit but that has not been the case.
In comparing side by side my old Torins and these, I realize they are stiffer partially due to the change in fabric to (I think) make them more water resistant. Since I mostly run on road and avoid bad weather if possible, I never had an issue with previous models and actually enjoyed how soft the fabric was. I used to be an Asics gal, and this model of Torin almost reminds me of that from the fabric on the outside as it's stiffer/gel like instead of all fabric.
Overall, I still tout Altra's as my favorite shoe. I tell everyone they are the best and worst thing that's ever happened to me because now I have a hard time wearing any other shoe (not just running). I bought into Altra because of the wide toe bed and that is why I will stay a loyal customer. But if the Torin's continue to be stiffer, I might try another model such as the Riveras or Paradigms. I hope they bring back the older model that is less stiff, but understand what they were trying to do with this model. Personally, would not recommend this specific model (Torin 5) to a friend for now.

I only use these for daily use at work and not running but I do do a lot of walking there. The tongue has not been a problem there but it has already unglued after 2 months. They are still comfortable and easy on my metatarsalgia bones (that is something I've had issues with and is why I am trying different shoes). My problem is with the front of this shoe. There is a plastic-y part that hits my toes and ruins my pedicure! LOL wondering if a half size bigger will help or if it's just a design issue. At the price points I'd rather get the Escalante although it's not nearly as cushioned I feel as these Torin 5s but at least it doesn't ruin my pedicure LOL

Just finished my first run in my new Torins. Shoes felt amazing on my feet. I’m fairly new to zero drop shoes, but so far have been loving them. My Altra Lone Peak 6s are my favorite shoes I’ve ever owned. So, I was extremely excited to try the Torins. As previously stated, the shoe feels amazing. Felt like I had a great first run in them until I took my shoes off and realized both shins were bleeding from the bizarre tongue! The tongue is stiff, sharp, and too long. I had read other reviews that mention the tongue but thought it couldn’t be that bad. Well, it is! Gonna attempt to make it work because I really love the feel of the shoe. It’s just a shame.

It just wasn't good for my feet. I recommend buying any shoe in person not on line. The tongue of the shoe did not curve like it did in the Torin 4 shoe(see photo) so it dug into my leg. They felt to small even thought they are the size of my other Torin 4 shoes. I wanted to buy Torin 4 shoes but couldn't find any.

Second pair of this shoe. Liked the first one. Somehow the tongue is far more annoying than last pair. Still getting blisters on my ankle and two toes and it's been several weeks. Not happy.

I had another pair of these from last year that I loved. When I put these new ones on, the tongue was long and hard and it stuck into the front of my ankle. Also, the inside of the shoe isn't nearly as squishy. It is much harder and not as comfortable. I am returning and will try a different style

I bought these for my daughter due to the issues she was having with other athletic shoes. She loves them and are comfortable to her all day. The 3 stars are for the quality of the shoe. After 3 days of wear the bottom tread started peeling off. I have a pair of provision 2.5s that I still wear and haven't issues with. So comfort she gives 5 stars but quality, not so much. BTW, I did just glue the back together.

Shoe seems well made, but I knew immediately that they wouldn't work for my feet. Toe box was too wide for me. I have Morton's neuroma, so I need a roomy toe box, but these were just too wide. I would recommend these for anyone that needs a wide toe box shoe.

I had high hopes for these shoes but after ordering a half size up they were still a half size too small. Also, the tongue of the shoe rubs into your ankle if your socks aren't tall enough.

Everything about these shoes was great EXCEPT the tongue. There's no padding which for me was a deal-breaker -- they were extremely painful to the tops of my feet, which are boney and have had surgeries that've left scars and added sensitivity. Plus the shape of the tongue, as other reviewers have mentioned, was too oddly shaped and sharp and rubbed into my ankles painfully, even with thick socks. Size seemed true, cushioning was ample, style was pretty cute, even at size 12.
I'd also recommend:

The Torin 5 is the first zero drop shoe that I have tried and I am hooked. 2nd day I wore them I walked 4 miles without any foot, back, or hip pain in a long time! I have been wearing conventional running shoes for years and while I have yet to run in my new shoes yet, I am excited to give it a try. I will say I was on the fence about buying them because of the weird plastic-y tongue but am hoping it will get a little softer over time (I did wear ankle socks on my walk instead of my regular running footies as a precaution!). I also noticed that the toe box seems a little shallow. I will see how those 2 design flaws pan out but have already looked to see what other colors the Torin 5 comes in.

Everyone is correct about the tongue. It cuts my ankle (not rubbing, like cutting/slicing) if I forget the right (higher) socks when I run in these shoes. The laces are barely long enough and I would prefer longer ones so I could lace the shoe the way I like. The toe box is plenty wide, but not tall enough. My big toe rubs against the top of the toe box and this is sometimes uncomfortable. This may contribute to my feeling that the shoe seems to run small, since my big toe feels weirdly cramped in there. I would prefer a more cushioned sole, these are not at all cushy in any way and I get plantar fasciitis flares from these way more than I've gotten from other shoes. I love the zero drop and the wide toe box, but I don't think that these are the best Altras for me.

I had the Torin 4.5 plush and loved them, so I bought the Torin 5's. They run smaller so I had to go a 1/2 size up. The tongue, as others have said, is super sharp and will cut the front of your ankle. I think I'm going to cut it off. Right now, I'm folding it over, trapping it under the laces. There is a little plastic design around the top of the toe box that is rigid and caused a blister on my pinky toe first time out. I thought about peeling off the plastic design, but I haven't had a continued issue with that. Other than the tongue I like these shoes, but I think everyone who bought these should get a discount next time they're updated, provided Altra fixes the tongue issue. It's silly to have to cut the end of the tongue off a brand new shoe.

The Torin 5.0 feels more snug than the 4.5 around the toe box. The tongue is way too stiff. Unless you wear high socks, the tongue tears up your ankles. I miss the 4.5
