I buy Altra shoes because they accommodate my wide forefoot and bunion. At first this shoe felt painfully tight over the top of the foot, even though it looks wider than the Torin 4.5.
I re-did the lacing so that the laces don't cross over the foot at all for the first few loops and that fixed the tightness issue. Now the shoes are working well, and are comfortable and grippy. I really like the black color of the shoes. I wish the sole was softer and more padded, a "plush" version would be nice.

I'm so sad!! I have the hardest time finding a wide enough sneaker for my feet. My neighbor brought over her Torin 4.5 and I couldn't wait to get mine. I could only order the Torin 5, but didn't read the reviews. The tongue on the shoe is longer and more stiff than the 4.5. The shoes are too expensive to see if the tongue would be a problem. Back they go :(.

I love the roomy toe box and responsive cushion. My compliant is the narrow heel plate and painful tongueI would repurchase a wide size and wear socks! Hopefully the wide size will make the heel plate area wider, roomier and more comfortable.

Ran 7 miles in these today. Wonderful first impressions. Soft, yet very responsive feel. Sizing on the other hand was way way off. Normally, I wear 9.5 in all Altra models. I had to get 11 (!!!) in these. Could not believe it. Went to two different stores just to make sure it was not a rogue pair or something. Otherwise, highly recommend for the long runs in particular. Top is very breathable, yet structured where it counts. Was happy to see extra side hole in the lacing back again. They look great.

Love Torin's but the new tongue is very uncomfortable. What happened to the padding? Otherwise, the ride is great.

The torin 5 is a flat, fast and comfortable running shoe. No extra weight to hold you down or hinder your cadence. I loved the upper mesh. The toe box of the shoe is super roomy! so if you have wide feet, or if your feet swell up during summer running (which all feet do up to full size in heat and humidity!) this is perfect shoe for that issue. Really enjoyed it and will be exploring other Altra shoes as well!

My previous pair of Torin 4.5 Plush was my first pair from Altra and it made me a believer. I get the new Torin 5, and the sole is great, cushion is great, toe box is also roomy. I also ordered this a 1/2 size up from my normal size and it fits like expected. However, the one flaw with this shoe is that the tongue is thin fabric that is rigid and rubs your ankle unless you're wearing socks that cover your ankle. I'm desperately hoping that they break in and become less rigid. Otherwise, I like them. But this may be a deal breaker.

First pair of altras and I love how comfortable they are with my wider feet. However, I'm about a year in and the treads are falling off. Wild given I've only put about 75 or so miles on them.

Ive had these for two years. I don't run much anymore and use these only for running. I'm comparing them with 3-4 other altar running shoes and 3 other trail runners over the last 5-6 years

Tongue of shoe is to thin and stiff you have to wear thick socks with them. Bottom of shoe has fallen apart was disappointed with quality. Tread coming off

I love this shoe in so many ways. Zero drop, wide toe box, just right underfoot. The tongue, however, has hurt me over and over. But I can't quit this shoe, so I use tape and thick socks.

This is the most comfortsble sneaker I have ever worn. They are light weight, have enough room for my Tailor's bunion, and are pretty. Unfortunately, they started coming apart by month 3. The black tabs on the bottom are coming off, and the fabric on top of my toes ripped. They are also hard to keep clean. Purchased 6 months ago.

I love my Altra shoes but the tongue is so sharp it cut into my foot. Very painful. I have to wear my husband's socks to come up high enough so it doesn't cut. Other than that, I love them. Very comfortable to walk in.

I'll double down on all the complaints about the tongue (wear socks with an ankle lip in the front- mitigated issue) and the tread coming off (liquid cement- keep it moving) BUT this shoe is my go-to even with all of that said. I did seven multisport events this season ranging in distance from 5k (sprint tri) to 13.1mi (70.3 IM) in this shoe. I did have to move to the Torin 6 mid-season but it's heavier and bulkier (nominally but you'll notice it if you're a runner). Additionally, the tongue just won't sit flush (ain't nobody got time to fix all that at T2). Look Altra: put the old 5s on a deep sale (I'll buy them all) and then fix it and let's go out there and crush it next season! Please! This shoe is a workhorse...it just falls apart. Gets six stars if you fix your ish.

Quality is not what it used to be... even the shoe laces are cheesy. I thought people were exaggerating about the tongue causing soreness but hey are right! I think this is my 4th pair of Altras but will be my last... keeping them only because I'm so desperate for a wide toe box.

They were uncomfortable and I returned them. They just did not feel right nor did they feel like they fit correctly. I was very disappointed that I needed to return them since they are nice looking sneakers.

I have had 9 foot surgeries. I had cavus varus deformity surgery for extremely high arches and herl position. I have also had sesamoid removed, one in each foot. I love these shoes. They are the only zero foot drop, wide cushioned shoes i can find. I can't even wear a houseslipper or sandal. My issue is i went through two pair before finding one that one, or both, tongues weren't too long. The tongues cut into my skin. I finally got a pair it doesn't and threads are just coming out in toe area in less than four months. I also wish you had more options for wides in Women's. Usually "normal", i use it loosely, high arches cause the forefoot to be wide due to constant pressure when walking. Please make more wide options in the original, fix the tongue issue, and falling quality of the shoes.

I bought these for walking. They are about a half size too small, so I sent them back.

These would be the perfect shoe if the stack height was 33. I cannot wear any Altra shoe which is the lower than 30 stack height. Why do they even make them in the 26 height at all? or lower? Must be for light runners. Some of us are heavier bodied and and we NEED the cushion. I love this fit, but it is not perfect enough to keep, as the stack height is too low for me.

My second pair by this manufacturer. This shoe's tongue cut up my ankles, as well. I like the fit of the shoe, so I wear them with socks that cover my ankles. My first pair of Altras did not have this issue. Eventually, the tongue softened up. Overall, a good shoe. Please resolve the tongue issue!

If the Torin 5 were built off the original sole, it would be perfect. They do offer some wide which is very good, but this sole/shoe comes only in a "standard", and my left foot is riding on the rim. The only Altra shoes I can wear or even want to wear is the "original sole" brand, and yet they only make a few, trail shoes are a few of them, and I don't want a trail shoe. They use to make the Paradigm 6 in the original sole, but now they switched to standard sole and it is much slimmer, and painful from the sole up. I am a walker, not a runner, so we shall see how this shoe works out. Thanks -
I'd also recommend:
Original sole shoes and do not put too much arch support in your shoes, because they can really hurt

The torin is one of my favorite shoes, but tongue has given me a callous where I've been cut by it every time I wear it. I have 2 pair and wear KT Tape one my ankle to stop the bleed even 1 yr of wear

A little short compared to my other shoes. And the tongue cuts into your ankle. The material feels plastic

I was encouraged to switch to Altras at the request of my podiatrist. I wore the torin 4's I believe and didn't have too may difficulties. of course new year, new model and tongue issues. I did the best I could with the changes by moving the tongue off to the side and this seemed to help a little. Until my first 100, which was this past weekend. I started having issues at mile 20, right at the tongue line, and just couldn't get over it. Even with changing socks and an older broken in model of the same Torin. I was able to run 25 miles at one go but this past weekend i had to bag my race at mile 50. The tendon, or whatever is there became so inflamed I just had to stop. I am disappointed to say the least.... my fueling and body felt great except the top of my ankle. Lots of icing and resting ensued. I don't understand why a company needs to make dramatic changes?? I will say, tho the cush of the shoe is like none other.
