I LOVE the Torin. However this release was a huge disappointment. The tongue (which is too long) in this shoes chewed up the front of my ankle so badly. Not sure how this would not have been figure out in wear testing pre release. After purchasing I read the reviews and see many others had the same issue. Altra please fix this issue as I love wearing the Torin!

I have been in Torins since before they were numbered, and I love them. I tested out these shoes, and while I was pleased with most aspects, the tongue wore into both of my ankles and gave me blisters... on a 4.6 mile easy run. Thus, I returned the Torin 5 and bought a pair of Riveras instead (very happy with those). Fingers crossed for a Torin 5.5 with a soft tongue! Lastly, these shoelaces are a reasonable length, not the Torin 4 crazy length.

I am a dog walker and have used Torins for years. As many other reviews say, the tongues of the Torin 5 are razor SHARP and will cut into your skin. I used Trauma shears to trim them down but they still hurt. Altra I hope you are reading these reviews. The new design sucks.

I have been a long time Altra consumer and absolutely love the previous Torin designs, fit, and mechanics. However, the new Torin 5 design has major flaws and I absolutely can't wear them. I only attempted 2 shorts runs and 1) the hard material of the tongue that comes up to high on the ankle resulted in cuts to the front of my ankle, 2) the lace that runs under the tongue caused significant irritation. I am so disappointed in the shoes and sadly will need to find another alternative as all of my previous Torins do not have my size available any longer.

Comfy shoe but the tongue on these is a disaster, it rubs even when just walking, I had to return my pair.

I loved my Torin 4s and was excited to try the Torin 5. The tongue is rigid and irritates the front of the ankle even when sitting and walking around the house. I returned them.

I loved my Torin 4.5 and was so excited for this! The fit and feel of the shoe was great...except for the tongue. I wore them for 4 miles and was left with a sore on the top of my left ankle from the tongue rubbing. I have never had another running shoe made with this type of material for the tongue and do not understand why they thought this was a good design. I even wore higher socks and the tongue was still rubbing above them! I am returning. So sad!

My previous Altra were the Torin 4.5 Plush. I absolutely loved them! I still wear them, but needed a new pair. I purchased the Torin 5. I really like the fit and the roomy toe bed. The back of the shoe is nicely made and fits good with no rubbing of the heel. My issue is the tongue of the shoe. It has rubbed my skin due to the material it's made out of (not soft at all). I actually have red marks and broken skin from where it's rubbing skin raw when walking/running. If the tongue of the shoe was softer I would have no complaints on this shoe. Hoping I can find a way to make these work, maybe socks that come up higher in the front?
