This was my first pair of Torin 5 and my 4th pair of Torins in general. These aren't not like the others, and I returned them. The toe box isn't as wide and generous, the soles aren't as soft, and as another reviewer stated, the tongue is oddly stiff. I am frustrated that I have to go back to the drawing board and find a new pair of favorite walking shoes.

The tongue on these shoes is awful. I will have to return them, even though everything else seems good. I hope Altra will fix that on future versions. The Torin 4.5 was my favorite shoe ever :-(

So disappointed I love Altra. Did they even try this shoe on before going to market! As soon as I put it on I was like Nope. Tongue literally digs into your leg. You absolutely have no way around it. Sent them back. I'm waiting for next year to come out. Hopefully they'll take these revo seriously and make adjustments. I tried other models but nope just like torrin for road runs.

I haven't had any issues with the tongue, but the toebox feels constricting on my new pair. The little band that passes over the mesh toe of the shoe actually pushes down on my big toe (which is not gigantic). Perhaps the sizing has changed, but this is a sad iteration of what was my favorite shoe. Not to mention that the landing out of the box feels like the worn out Torins that I'm replacing. Older models were significantly better. Longstanding but stable toe/ankle issues have significantly worsened since running in these consistently.

The tongue on the shoe is very uncomfortable. These are my fourth pair and I loved the others. But I returned these. Hopefully they will go back to the old style Torins

I've owned mine for quite a while now. The tongue is STILL rough and hurts the top of my ankle. I thought it might soften up, but no.

I am writing to post an additional comment about the sharp tongue. I've had nothing but uncomfortable runs in these shoes due to the material. I hope that we do not see this in future models.

The tongue is a dealbreaker. It's razor sharp and cuts into the front of my ankle. I read the reviews but love the Torin so decided to try for myself. It's AWFUL. Luckily I found Torin 5 Lux and those have a regular padded tongue for $10 more. ALTRA PLEASE FIX THIS TERRIBLE DEFECT ASAP.

Torin 5 is an uncomfortable shoe. The shoe gives no support to my foot. It's a sloppy fit because the fabric is too thin. The foot bed lacks cushion. It's a lighter shoe, so it gives up the support a foot needs. Atra, didn't you have someone test the shoe? The tongue kills my ankles. If you don't go back to your previous design, I will not be shopping Altra.

Tongue so stiff it rubbed my legs raw. I miss the original Torins. What the heck happened? The Rivera is garbage and so is the Torin Plush/5. Why ruin a good thing?!

For the last few years I have worn and loved the Torin - many races, many miles. Daily training to walking the dogs. Marathon to 100 miles. The shoe now feels a little stiff underfoot. The tongue, well be prepared to cut it or have it cut into your ankles. The toe box feels too narrow. I did try to size up a half size, but the stiffness and issue with the tongue were too much. I sent them all back. Pretty much the only thing Altra kept about the shoe is the zero drop. So very disappointed. Now I am wearing the Topo's. I really hope Altra brings back the Torin 4.0.

I am so disappointed in these shoes! I've had two pairs, the 4 and 4.5 I think, and loved them so much. Didn't keep the box or receipt on these thinking they'd be fine. Big mistake on my part! The tongue is AWFUL. It is so stiff and hits in the wrong place, rubs on my skin horribly. And there is something not right through the toe box, fits very strange, and almost seems too wide but only in certain spots. I've tried to run in them twice and they felt so terrible. Not sure what happened on the redesign but it completely missed the mark.

I am a devout lover of the previous Torin models. But these were awful. The tongue was completely redesigned and it left big, bloody, painful sores on my ankles. Please re-release the TORIN 4.5. PLEASE!!! I ended up having to buy the escalante's and they're alright, but I really miss the Torin's. I hope Altra is listening to all this feedback.

How does Altra go from having designed the perfect running shoe with the Torin 4.5 Plush to the uncomfortable Torin 5? Big Mistake Altra! Not only is the shoe a bit too short, and the tongue too hard, But also the cushioning is too thin and the entire shoe feels less sturdy. In just a short while of wearing these around the house, my feet felt cramped, the tongue dug into my upper foot, and the shoe began to look crumpled on top. Please, please Altra, go back to your previous design!!!! You had it right with the 4.5 Plush.

Tongue is hard and pokes into my ankle. The insert is thin and not squshy like the 4.5 plush. This shoe is a total disappointment and I promptly returned it.

I have never, ever returned a pair of running sneakers. I have been running over 20 years. The tongues on these shoes sliced into my ankles to the point where I was cringing with each step. Horrible. I have no idea if the rest of the shoe was good or not because I could focus on nothing other than my pain. Needless to say, I had to return them.

They took away everything great about the Torin 4. It is almost identical to the new Rivera. Why two of the same shoes?? The Torin 4 had an elastic band around the mid foot which kept it secure and stable. This shoe does not. It reminds me of a slightly more cushioned Escalante. I'm not sure what they were thinking with this re-design but it's a fail for me. PLEASE bring back the Torin 4. This is a sad repacement.

I have been a loyal Altra customer for the past 3 years, and just replaced my Torin Plush 4 with these cute Torin 5. I went on a 7 mile run (Altras are the only shoes I've owned that don't require breaking in). I was very disappointed to see that the tongue of the shoe has been redesigned to be so long and sharp. I had to untie my shoes and tie them in a way that held the tongue back to keep it from causing more damage to my leg. I was planning to train for a marathon in these shoes, but I'm now looking for another alternative. I would give these shoes a 5-star review otherwise, but for the price, I would expect something that I can actually wear comfortably. Altra has always been my go-to brand, but this uncharacteristic flaw is forcing me to look at other options.

I wish I had read all of these reviews before ordering this new version of the Torin. This is my third pair of Torinhow much could it change? Oh wait, the tongue is designed to slice skin. Why?

I have been wearing the Torin since the Intuition was discontinued. The updates are bad - tongue digs into leg, shoe rotates feet in...end result lots of pain in knees, back, neck, and shoulders.

I agree with other posters that the tongue of these shoes is terrible. It's too high, so pokes into the front of your ankle. Unwearable.

I don't know how ya'll did it but I think the Torin 5 is worse than the Torin 4. I started wearing the Torin about 6 years ago and it was the best shoe I had ever worn. I am sorry to say that your design team has slowly killed it. The cushion is almost non existent. The tongue keeps getting longer and longer. I've had to buy higher socks because this "new' tongue cuts into my ankle. And the cushion goes fast. These shoes are expensive and I can't afford to replace them every other month. I have RA and these shoes use to help my feet and back but unfortunately that's not the case anymore. I've tried to give your design team the benefit of the doubt but ya'll keep messing up a great shoe and it doesn't look like it will be fixed any time soon. I guess I need to start looking elsewhere for my next shoes,

I have gone through 2 pairs of the Torin 4.5s and was excited when my running store got the 5s in stock. The 4.5s were the most comfortable and cushioned shoe I have every worn, but the 5s did not live up to the expectations. My main problem is that the amount of cushioning in the 5s is significantly less than the 4.5s. I did three runs in the 5s and ended up getting plantar fasciitis. I would have never experienced those issues with the 4.5s. To top it off, the material on the tongue of the shoe is awful. I had to wear tall socks even when just walking or I would get a blister on my ankle. This shoe is a disaster. I'm having to switch to a completely different brand now because I can't find a pair of 4s or 4.5s in my size anywhere. I'm extremely disappointed in Altra and what they have done with this shoe. The Torin has now been ruined.
