Comfortable shoe but the tongue is sharp like a razor blade. It does not get better over time. It has rubbed my ankles raw after two weeks of running and have caused both to bleed. The literally sliced through my skin. Notified Altra of issue and they did not offer any suggestion or replacement option. Waste of money. Very disappointed.

This shoe feels rather sloppysimilar to the 3.0/3.5 edition. The tongue has cut my ankles and I am going to have to cut the tongue in order to minimize the bodily injury these shoes are inflicting upon me:(

I have been a Torin runner for years, and with the exception of some minor durability issues have really enjoyed the shoe. This version, however, is beyond awful. The cushion is unevenly squishy so that it forces your foot toward the front-inside edge with every step. The rounded front at the big toe has been extended unnecessarily while the rest of the shoe is shorter in size when compared to the Torin 4. This results in your foot hitting the front while also having a strange bit of unusable shoe right where you need to have sensory control (think about how you might stub your toe while wearing shoes that are much too large for your foot). The tongue is hard across the top of your foot causing pain at the lace intersections. The elasticized pieces that connected the tongue to the sole have also been removed. This reduces the overall stability and connection to the arch support. The heel also seems to have been squared off- made less rounded- making the fit sloppy feeling. Just to top it off, the laces are junk. I had to remove the shoe to get the lace to budge for adjustment...may be fine ounce you find your fit but until it's going to be a problem. Altra has also moved from ridiculously long laces to laces that are very short- if you're a fan of the tie & tuck approach you can forget it with these.
I'm bummed. The Torin 4 was a great shoe. This new version feels like someone worked really hard to ruin it in every way conceivable.

Very disappointed in the Altra shoes over the past year. NOT THE SAME QUALITY as in years past.
Very wide , and poor material quality in comparison to past styles I have worn. Very sad that I’ll have to find a new athletic shoe .

They hurt just trying on. The other pair I got was fine. Will not buy these again.

My favorite shoe has been ruined. Please bring back the old Torins!! Feels hard on the foot after the first mile. Feet feel better running barefoot.

I've always loved the Torin plush and was unhappy to discover they did a way with them . This torin 5 is horrible compared to the plush and the torin 5 doesn't come in a wide so even if it is a little more comfortable it doesn't help the people who have a wider foot. I guess I will have to try another brand now.

They look great, at first feel great, then I ran in them. I called my husband at mile 2 to come get me. my ankle was actually bleeding from the tongue. I don't usually do reviews but I am bothered that I dont have my go to shoe. Please please Altra get rid of these and give us a Torin like the one before.

This shoe is stiff and smaller than my previous Torin 4. If this shoe was my first introduction to Altra I would never try again. Bring back the old Torin!

I agree with all the other reviews that complained about the tongue. I wish I'd seen the reviews first before I got these latest Torins. The older Torins have normal padded tongues. This one, for some WHO KNOWS WHY REASON, has a stiff, flat, unpadded, and knife-sharp edge on the tongue that left my right ankle bleeding after this morning's run. I thought I could live with this (stupid) redesign but I draw the line at drawing blood!!! I will be trying to return these to our forgiving running shoe store. DO NOT BUY and Altra please bring back a NORMAL PADDED TONGUE!! (And do a better job of testing out changes, please!!!)

These are awful. The tongue will cut you. It doesn't matter if your sock is tall. They will wear a hole in your sock after a few runs. Who designed this?? Who tried it on and thought this was a good shoe? Altra bring back the Torin. I'm so sad. I am going to be forced to leave the brand until the real Torins come back.

The 4.5's were just about perfection in my book even with a hammertoe. I have tried so many ways to wear this shoe I give up. The 8.5 is too short and the 9's are too big. I can't believe Altra did this.

I loved Torin 4. I was a new runner and they were my first running shoe and I was able to wear them right out of the store. I love the roomy toebox, I love the zero drop heel, I love everything about them. When the 4.5 came out, I tried, but they were too cushy. Then, the 5 came out and my beloved 4's went away forever. I tried the 5, but it fit too big and too wide, the tongue is awful, it's too cushy. I tried them and really REALLY wanted to like them. But I had to return them. I tried to replace the 4s- I tried the escalante, the provision 5, and even another brand of zero drop shoe. Nothing has been "right". Please consider bringing back the 4.

Other reviewers are correct, these are terrible. I've been wearing Torin's for the last 6 years and this latest version is not worth your money. The tongue is a razor, the shoelaces aren't long enough to lace the shoe up all the way and the new knit stretches out so much that the forefoot quickly becomes loose and sloppy to run in. Please for the love of all that is holy bring back the 4.5, those were perfection. Having to find a new brand to run in is traumatic when you've loved a specific shoe for so long:(

Such a let down. This is my first pair of ALTRA torin 5. I loved these shoes when I got them. I have only had the shoes for just over 2 months. Sole separation.

I got this newer model of the shoe I wear all the time. The tongue of this shoe is filled with some stiff material that cuts grooves into the base of your ankle. So painful! I’ll have to either cut it off or return them. There is something weird about the toes too.

They're shaped like clown shoes. I can't imagine who could wear them. The hard plastic tongue was ridiculous. Couldn't send them back fast enough.

I did a lot of research on shoes for running and walking with predislocation syndrome. I read great reviews on the Torin 4.5s. I searched high and low and found a brand new pair about a month ago. I LOVE THEM!!!! I bought the 5.0 2 weeks ago and they don't measure up. At all. I don't like them. At all. They have very little cushion, the fabric used for the upper part of the she is less forgiving and creases on the sides, and the tongue eats into my ankle so I have to wear ankle socks to keep from getting blisters from the tongue. Why do shoe companies change what works?! I will never understand. PLEASE BRING BACK THE 4.5S!!!!!

I have worn Torins since the beginning. I really liked all the models and the improvements to the Torin 4.5, but the Torin 5 has a tongue that is stiff and cut into my ankle. I returned them.

Wish I had read the other reviews before buying the Torrin 5's. I have worn and loved Torrin's for 3 years now. The previous versions (3&4) were fine. The Torrin 5's tongue cuts into my leg and has left scars. I even tried to cut the tongue so it would not ride up so far but it still cuts into my leg. The tongue is like cardboard, terrible!

This was my first pair of Altra running shoes, the tongue design is absolutely terrible and uncomfortable. When spending that much on shoes you expect them to be comfortable, this is a failure.

Really disappointed in this version of the Altra. My legs hurt when I run in these shoes, so I purchased the make version of the 4.5 because I couldn't find my size in women's. There's a dramatic change in these shoes from the 4.5 and 4.0. Please bring the former versions back, Altra.

I have had 5 pairs of Altra Torin shoes over the past 2 years and fell in love with the comfort of the shoe up until Torin 5.0. This new model of Torin is NOT comfortable. The toe bed is narrower, the tongue cuts into the ankle and even the laces are shorter. I walk 7 miles a day and thought I could always rely on this shoe. So disappointed in the changes that were made. Please bring back prior designs!

I've run in every generation of Torins and these are the worst. In addition to the nasty sharp tongue and skinny laces, the right and left don't have the same cushion.
I have tried on at least six different size 8 and 7.5 and each right is firmer and lower than the left. The discrepancy is even visible on some. WHERE IS QUALITY CONTROL?
