Torin 3.5 was the most comfortable shoe i have ever worn. Torin 4 were too squishy. Did not try 4.5. I have never liked any of the jersy style shoes-too much play/wiggle room. I like that the 5 has a stiffer sole. The tongue is terrible-soo very uncomfortable-it is stabbing my ankle with every step. i would love to see the 3.5 upper paired with the 5 lower.

I loved loved loved my Altra 4.0 Torin 4 Plush Road Running shoes and needed a new pair so of course I opted for the Torin 5's. After my first run, the tongue had cut into my feet so much! So very disappointed. I'm not sure how the tongue passed inspection or how it was missed before going to the public.

DO NOT BUY THESE! Altra should recall them and Zappos should stop selling them. Shoes that injure the wearer should not be sold. The workarounds are ineffective.

I have PERMANENT scars thanks to the rigid tongue on these shoes. Not comfortable at all. Have been wearing Torin's since version 2 and version 4 was my absolute favorite. Five killed all the love I had for these. I even tried the plush/luxe model and nope can't do it - those make me feel like i'm going to twist my ankles - and my toes feel like they are broken after running in them. Let's see what June will bring! I'm hoping they bring back more of what was amazing about version 4 in the next model.

Otherwise a great shoe ruined by the tongue. Will try this return for the luxe, which didn't have this issue.

Great! Except for the tongue, it is too stiff and trying to cut through my shin. Blisters and raw skin after just 3k.

I discovered Altra shoes last year and fell in LOVE with the comfort and wider front foot part. I have the 4.5 edition and was ready for a new pair. Order the 5 edition and within 5 minutes of just walking around the house, I had to take them off. The tongue was cutting into my foot. Absolutely no way I could do my typical 4 mile power walk in these shoes. I returned them the same day. I sure hope someone realizes how terrible this design is and changes it.

Size feels good, but I had to go up a size because I have a custom insert after a reconstructive foot surgery. My quip with this shoe is that the tongue is made of an inflexible neoprene, that rubs against the front of my ankle and leaves a rash it makes an otherwise awesome shoe unwearable.
Their other shoes don't have this.
Major design flaw.
It is rigid enough it irritates even through a sock.
I'm disappointed because they are expensive, and just decorating my closet.

These shoes are light and comfortable BUT the tongue is EVIL! IT WILL CUT YOU FROM RUBBING BECAUSE IT IS SO HARD AND STIFF WITH NO PADDING! The worst design! I have scars on my ankles from them and can only wear these shoes with long socks and even then the tongue rubs

I've been running in the torren for years.. however the design change in the 5 is horrible.. the tongue is stiff hard and way to long. It rubs sores in your leg only after a mile. I cut over a half inch off and it still does it.. the tread on the bottom started coming off after 2 runs.. my only regret was I tossed the box and return label

I tried to like these, I really did. I tried folding the tongue so it wouldn't cut my ankles. I wore long socks but the tongue cut right thru. I tried every lacing configuration. A little over one month of trying to run in the Torin 5, I have Morton's neuroma flaring up in my left foot. Yesterday, after a dreadful 9 mile run, I decided I'm done with the Torin 5. Today, I wore my old, worn out 4.5 plushes for a 4 mile run and did not have any pain in my foot. I seriously think the Torin 5 is defective. The toe box is tighter than the 4.5 and there isn't as much cushion in the sole. And of course, there's that razor sharp tongue. After the Mortons started to flare up, I even tried special insoles. Still terrible. Hopefully Altra brings back whatever it is that made the 4.5 plush so great, cuz everyone seems to want it back.

I bought this shoe the beginning of December and it has worn terribly. I don't even run in them, just wear them to work (I'm an NP). The soles are peeling (I've glued multiple times and this doesn't last) and the shoe feels broken down. I'm going to throw them away. Waste of money.

I have used Torin Plush for years, since they came out in fact. It seems that every other year or so Altra thinks up some type of "redesign." This Time...I think I may be done. The tongue which is a common complaint is indeed horrible. But the same level of cushion that I have grown so fond uf is gone and the shoe feels tight on the upper part of my foot (directly above my arch) and is just too tight no matter how I tie my laces. My toes go numb on long runs. I started using Altra Torin (Plush) in the beginning because I had experienced so many injuries and these were like a magic bullet. Just AMAZING. However, now the hip and joint pain has returned and I am heartbroken and disgusted all at the same time. I would not in all good conscious recomend these shoes to anyone. I guess it is Gel Nimbus for me now. It is terribly sad, I loved this shoe so much and now, it is no more.

There is so much I would change about these things that it would take too much time to even say. I tried 3 different pairs in the regular and then tried the "Luxe". The difference is night and day when I changed to my old WORN OUT 4.5's! They were still better than this and the "luxe"! Just wonder why you messed up a good thing changing the 4.5. They were awesome. Please dump this new version and just bring back 4.5.

The tongue. The laces. They don't seem as cushioned as previous versions. Hips hurt. Plantar fasciitis came back. C'mon guys. I'm old. These were my running shoes. Sigh. What happened?

As an avid Altra shoe buyer, I don't know why Altra would make a tongue on a shoe that literally cuts your skin. Did anyone test run this model?

Tongue is made with a plastic type that cuts into leg. Customer service guessed the style and told me to return them , but you can't return them if you have worn them out side at the store I purchased them at. I have been wearing altra shoes for years never a complaint before this.

This is my 9th pair of Altra shoes and the only pair I've had issues with.
They obviously changed the design of the tongue as it's now flat, hard plastic with a very sharp edge.
Lesson learned - I will always try my shoes from now on.
Despite my issues, Altra customer service did right by me and is allowing me to exchange them for a different style.

I had heard about the hard tongue, so I expected the rub. I taped my ankles thinking the tongue would get softer. I've only gotten about 15 miles out of the shoe because it fits smaller and rubbed against my second toe so badly I had aching pain and tingling in my toe for several days. I can't wear them. Hoping the Torin 6 is better because Altra is my favorite shoe brand.

No cushion whatsoever. The tongue of these shoes made sores on from of my ankles just after a few hours of wear. Returned them immediately!

The tongue on this design is terrible!! Would not recommend this shoe. I have ran in altras for 4 years now and usually love them but this shoe design has just been frustrating. Have been using for 5 months now and hoped the tongue just needed time to soften up. Nope! It's just as stiff. Painfully cuts into my ankle every time. Wish I had checked reviews. Save your ankles and don't buy them.

I'm not sure who designed the tongue for this shoe but it is horrible! It's so bad it makes sores at the bend in my foot. I'll be looking at another style or brand if they don't redesign the tongue.

I bought these Altra's for my daughter after she and I both loved a different Altra shoe for trail running. The construction of the shoe has the tongue cut her angle like a knife. She's tried everything to get the tongue to soften and finally had to throw them away.

The torin plush 4.5 had the perfect balance of plushness and firmness. I'm not sure what changed, but these now feel like any other trainer out there. I felt the road with every step. It is more comfortable to run barefoot than with these shoes.
