I love the torins and use them for everything from work, walking, running, hiking and more. I was disappointed when they didn't fit, sure that they would since I have owned them before. I don't know why they made the size change but it makes me hesitant to ever buy altras again

Tongue WAY TOO LONG. Cut into my ankles even worse than the Altra Lone Peak. Don't know how any human could wear these. Really disappointing because otherwise this was a perfect fit.

I loved the Torin Plush 4.5, so I bought the 5s. There's a toe seam that's annoying. The tongue is so bad, so hard and digs into the skin. The worst part is how much I slide around in them. Sad to say I'm returning them and looking for the last model until Altra fixes these issues.

I loved my Torin 4's. Every version since then has not measured up at all!! I still wear my 4's on occasion even though they are way past what I should. I hate the tongue in the 5. They don't seem to have the same cushion or support as the 4 or 4.5. I hope they go back to the drawing table on this one.

The updated Torin is pretty. It is light. The shoe fits well, and doesn't move around. However the tongue on the Torin 5 is horrible. While it may look pretty or cool and cut some weight from the shoe, the material it is made from cut into my ankle. I am not a fan of crew socks or higher, so I will be returning these.

The hard tongue made me bleed and I got blisters on the bottom of my big toe! Love the 4 but not so much the 5 !!!
Discount shopping for the 4 is where I'm going!

These are so comfortable, love the fit, love the color, love everything about these EXCEPT that dang tongue! The tongues are sharp and a total deal breaker. Please please please bring these back but with a softer tongue!

The tongue is too long and very sharp. Even if held in place by the laces, it cut into my ankles. Really a poor design because the rest of the shoe is perfect. Have to return them, sadly.

There's something very wrong with the design on the tongue. The top of my foot hurts in a sneaker for the first time ever. There's also a weird seam near the toe too. I like almost everything else about the sneaker so it's really too bad.

I love my Torin 4 shoes! I like the Torin 4.5 Plush ok. It seems your attempt to continually upgrade this shoe has failed. I was excited to see some new colors (mainly a plain black) in the new Torin 5. I ordered 2 pairs. This new version contains a serious design flaw. The tongue is oversized - too long - with a sharp and scratchy edge. When shoes are on and laced it rubs against the front of your leg. Very uncomfortable! Please look at the Torin 4 - Tongue perfect, fit perfect - unlike the 5. Sad I have to return these.

Like other reviewers said, the rigid tongue is the deal breaker. The rest of the shoe is fantastic. Great cushion, great fit. But then you get to the tongue. It HURTS! Even just walking around with socks on, it was rubbing painfully on the front of my shins. I didn't want to take a chance that the tongue would break in over time, so back they go. I'm so disappointed. I've work Altra Torins for about 5 years now. The only shoe I can wear. Not sure what I'm going to do now. I've tried other models in the Altra line but really need the amount of cushion the Torin provides. I'm super disappointed in Altra in the last year or so. They seem to be changing their shoes in ways that are just completely nonsensical! Why would you get rid of the cushioned tongue??? Or at least a soft flexible one??? I hope they listen to their loyal customer base and change this issue with the next Torin model. So disappointed.

Despite the perfect size and fit, the stiff, sharp tongue makes the shoe unwearable. Returning with regrets!

I bought these too fast, assuming they were the new Torin Plush replacement and they aren't. No better shoe than the Torin 4 and 4.5 plush. The Torin 5 has minimal cushion. My feet hurt for a week after my first run. Amazing how different they are. Darn.

The tongue of the shoe is really stiff. Caused a blister at the front of my ankle. Yes, I did have sock coverage.

I was very excited to try out the Torin5. The fit and feel of the shoe was great except for one big problem, the tongue is made of a ridged material. I wore them on a 3 miles run today and was left with a sore on the top of my left ankle from the tongue rubbing. I have never had another running shoe made with this type of material for the tongue and do not understand why they thought this was a good design. I have included a picture of the top of my ankle. I will not be wearing them again.

I had the previous Torin which were great. I was so disappointed and sent them back. Now i just have an worn out pair and a half marathon coming up. The tongue is stiff and cuts into your leg.

I am a dedicated Altra wearer so looked forward to the Torin 5. The overall shoe looks great, but why are the laces so short? All the attention to details of this shoe, materials, style, and fit, and somehow the length of the laces is overlooked. It ruins the shoe if I'm unable to tie the shoe because the laces are way too short. Otherwise the shoes are fine, but those short laces just don't work out.

I was excited to take these shoes out of the box and for a spin. I wore them around the house for awhile and noticed that the new tongue is hard and digs uncomfortably into my ankles. A disappointment.

My first pair of Altras was the Torin 2.5 and if I could go back in time and buy 100 of them, I would. The 2.5 was a dream - so comfortable, fit so well. I'd been having terrible metatarsal issues and the Torin 2.5 got me running again as well as walking without limping. Over the years, the quality of the Torin has gone downhill. The 5 is the last I bought and, even having read the reviews, I'm surprised by how terrible they actually are. The uppers are beyond uncomfortable, the tongue is so bad it's hilarious, and the fit is so much tighter. I've found a different shoe company that makes zero drops that are so much more comfortable than new Altras. I'll try on newer versions of the Torin at my local running store, but unless Altra makes a serious shift back to their previous glory, I probably won't be buying any anymore. It's just a shame.

The tongue of this shoe is so thin and sharp and stiff that it cut into the skin on the front of my ankle. No thank you.

When I bought these it didn't say like it does now on the site that this is a standard width. The whole reason I love altras is their wide toe box and zero drop. They changed how I felt about running.
I was ultimately disappointed in these. I have used them less than my older altras, they feel too narrow, but also have worn down way quicker. My older pair of a different style have hundreds of miles on them and these have less than a hundred and are nearly half as worn. Disappointed in them

Unless you are planning to wear shin guards with these shoes, do not buy these shoes. I read the reviews before I bought them, and I thought since I wear longer socks I would be fine and the socks would prevent the rubbing. But socks do not prevent stabbing. Everything else about the shoes is perfect, but the tongue makes them unwearable.

I bought these as I have found a new love for Altras. But the tongue on this is so painful. It's thin and hard, it has rubbed my lower anterior shin raw and blister. I can only run about 4 mile with long socks (can not even walk in these with ankle socks bc it rubs so bad) before I'm rubbed raw. If I could have returned after the first time I worn them I would have.
