all is good except the tongue on this shoe is stiff and plastic like so it strikes you in the front ankle area and leaves a mark. I have a taken scissors to cut it back. not sure how long that will last tho.

I had to get the wide when I normally wear the regular width with Altra. This model was much narrower in the toe box. The tongue is made of a very stiff strange material. It leaves blisters on my ankle, even with socks. This model was a huge disappointment from the previous versions.

I loved the Torin 4. I mean LOVED!!!! It was my most favorite shoe ever!!! I had found heaven....then they changed it.I still run in my Torin 4 even though all my apps tell me I have worn them out--getting close ti 500 miles now. The 4.5 was not great! Ok, but not great. The tongue is horrid!!! The the 5 is just awful, too soft and again the horrid tongue. WHY???? Doesn't stand up to the 4. After 4 months (?) of running in it I have just accepted it, but not crazy about it. Can't run the distance I did in the 4. I long for the 4!!! I loved that shoe. It was perfect. Why do companies change perfect shoes/???? Altra needs to go back to the drawing board on the the 5 for sure. Maybe revisit the 4????

As other reviews stated, the tongue cuts into your skin. I had this issue with the Torin 4.5 plush, but I just wore ankle socks since the cushion level was great. But the Torin 5 have hardly any cushion! So disappointed as I love this brand.

I've been an avid Altra wearer for about 3 years now & have lived in the Torins until now. Both the Torin 5 & the torin 5 Luxe tongues cut into my ankles causing serious pain, lacerations, & scarring. It feels like millions of little paper cuts. These cuts have left scars on both of my ankles. Please tell me there's a new version coming out & the tongue issue will be addressed soon! I've had to go back to that other brand that begins with an h & despise them. I can't train the mileage I'm used to because I have no sneakers to wear that are comfortable. Of all the things to mess with, why the tongue?!!!

Upper mesh is not as soft as Torin 4.5. The tongue "cuts like a knife". Overall feel is definitely NOT as comfy as the 4.5's. I have a slight hammertoe on one foot and the 4.5's were perfect for my issue. You guys really messed up a good thing. Guess I will stick with my Clifton's.

The Torin 5 is comfortable to stand in and walk short distances in so that's the 2 stars. Running 5 miles in these shoes was uncomfortable and I could not imagine doing more than that. The rigid piece around the toe box is awkward and hurts (a bigger size would just make the extra material fold over - i had a similar issue with Topos). The toe box is also flat. The tongue is very rigid and I didn't notice it at first but wow after a while it digs in. Then there's the sole itself. These feel like my Torin 4.5 after ~ 500 miles: squishy and familiar but not what I want to run in, especially for a new shoe. I'm a size 8 in my old Altras but they felt too big, I got 7.5 in these and that may have been too small. I'm a 7.5 in Brooks and Salomon, 8 in Saucony.

I read about the tongue but tried them on. They cut in, so I didn't even bother to jog around the store. Bring back the Torin 3.5 knit!

I loved my first 2 pair of Torins, the cushioning in the midsole was very good, my longer runs felt great. The Torins I just purchased we very disappointing. The cush feels flat and my feet hurt after every run. I stopped wearing them in less than a month and went back to my old pair. I'm currently trying to find another running shoe that will offer the most cushion with a low drop and neutral support. I'm a xc coach who puts in a lot of mileage so I need a durable shoe. I am testing out New Balance 1080v11s, still not soft enough, but I've only run in them 3 times.

I want to love this shoe because I think it is stylish. The good: Looks nice, toe box is great, price is what you'd expect. The bad: The tongue is sharp even with months of wear and I needed to buy taller socks to combat the pain, the shoes fabric is pretty flimsy so you aren't being held in, the insole needs arch support!, the cushion in general is a 3/5 for me and wears down quickly. I bought these shoes to help with my plantar fasciitis, but after the cushion wearing thin after only light wear I feel little to no support and these don't work for me. I really wish I could return them.

I am on my feet 10-12 hours 5 days a week at work in healthcare. The Torin 5 tongue sticks into my ankle even with high socks and it hurts. The cushioning and arch support are different and in my opinion unsatisfactory. So disappointed!

I have had several pairs of altra plush's and they were the best! These however, do not compare. They are not comfortable at all and they leave blisters on my feet from the tongue. Please bring back the torin plush.

I loved the Torin plush 4.5 and this new version is no where near as good as the original. They kill my feet, the tongue rubs my ankle raw, there is very little cushion, and I'm constantly pulling at my socks. Please bring the original back!!

So many reviewers mentioned the terrible tongue design on these shoes but I figured that with high enough socks that I wouldn't have problems. Boy was I wrong! One run (with high socks) and I have blisters and hot spots (also on the tops of my feet- very little ability to adjust tongue in any way). These were horrible (so sad to type this because they're beautiful and I was so excited about the wide toe box and I love this company). I'm also a run coach and was hoping to recommend to my athletes. Returning today:(

I just don't understand how this shoe passed internal testing. the tongue broke through my skin on a 5 mi run. this would have been my 4th pair of Torins, I love the rest of the shoe.

I purchased the Torin 5 from my local running store. I've been loyal to Altra for 6 years, most recently LOVING the Torin Plush 4, and the Torin Plush 4.5 was pretty good as well. I was hesitant to buy the Torin 5, as it was not labeled "Plush." However, per Altra's description, they just dropped that name, but it was supposed to have the same cushioning? Not the same, at all! I have run 200 miles in these so far, and have pretty severe foot pain. What I loved about the Torin 4 Plush, was how lightweight it was, but how much cushioning it still had. I loved that I could just as easily run a 15 miler in them as I could do a 5k at a speedy pace. The only thing the 5 has going for it, is that it is lightweight. I tend to be a neutral runner, most of the time striking with the ball of my foot. These have next to no cushioning in that area, which is causing me a lot of grief. Also, the fit completely changed. I normally size up a half-size from my regular shoe size. With the Torin 5, I had to size up a full-size, and it is still extremely tight, where I am unable to wear the thicker Balega socks that I love. The only thing that these have going for them is the color selection!

Tried these on at the store as I was looking for something with a big more cushion than my Riveras for longer road runs. the tongue immediately rubbed against my ankle and was soo uncomfortable. Also didn't feel like it provided much more cushion.

I have been wearing Torin and Torin plus since the beginning. Oh, how I wanted to love these straight out of the box But, I'm not even sure where or how I feel about these. The tongue is a total mess. I wish I had read the reviews prior to buying them. The tongue does cut into your ankle. It is made out of some sort of rigid material that is not like any of the other previous models. I am seriously considering taking a pair of scissors to trim the tongue down. I'm not sure if that will fix the issue or create other ones. Bottom line, should I have to do this NO! The rest of the shoe is awesome but the tongue is very distracting. And personally, I still don't think the laces are long enough. I like to "lock" my laces but I have not been able to do so with the past few models.

I usually run 4 to 5 miles on the road. Torin 4.5 was perfect. Now the Torin 5 comes and is a poor replacement. The mid foot is baggy. The heel is not secure. It makes you roll your heel in when you step down. I ended up with a sore knee and heel pain after one use. The prior version did not. Sorry Altra you just lost a firm follower.

I LOVED how they felt underfoot but the tongue was so painful. I didn't have the digging in near the ankle that others' experienced, but it felt like a LOT of pressure on the top of my midfoot. I don't experience this with other shoes and they were not tied too tight. I'm baffled what caused it, but I sent them back.

I purchased a pie of the Torin 4.5 earlier this spring but returned them after wearing around the house for trial because of the tongue - thin inflexible plastic . Was hoping the redesigned Torin 5 would be have a different tongue option , so I waited. Need road running shoe for 3-13 mi runs. Unfortunately I hear the same tongue issue persists - thus I'm exploring other brands although have been an Altra road and trail show user for last 3-4 yrs

The tongue issue is real, however now that my shoes are broken in, I don't even notice the stiff tongue. My real issue is my toes hitting the tip of the shoe. I was almost at the point of sizing down in my last pair of Torin's, and now I wish I had sized up. And I NEVER wear a 9. Otherwise I love them. Try before you buy!

This shoe is extremely comfortable except for the tongue! I don't know what Altra was thinking but all the reviews about the tongue are correct. Plastic-like tongue cut into my ankle after 5 minutes walking around, I have an actual raw spot there now. Returned immediately. Really wish this wasn't an issue because otherwise the shoes are perfect!

Unfortunately these don’t fit me well like the 4.5s did. (Yes, the tongue is uncomfortable and pokes into your leg). I’ve got a corn on each foot after wearing these just two times. I guess my foot slides around in them, even though I bought my usual size 9. I didn’t think they were too big but something is off with the fit.
