This shoe is just not the same. I have run in Torin 4 and 4.5 for years and they were a miracle for me. No more toes falling asleep, no hip pain. Those shoes kept me running! This new version is stiff, feels narrower and don't even get me started about the tongue. I am so sad. Please bring back the old design!

The sharp tongue digging into the front of my ankle was not something I would work around or overlook.Otherwise I loved the wide toe box and normal-width heel.

I'm a long time Altra fan, despite recent quality and design issues, but after a half mile in these shoes I had blood running from the repeated cutting action of the tongue - the material is so sharp!

Altra always run a half size smaller on me. Ordered an 8 1/2 (as all Altras I've purchased) and it was still too small. I'm just frustrated; they are going back.

I really like Altra and was excited to run more frequently in my new pair. My first few runs, the top of my foot was getting cut up from the tongue. I figured it was a matter of breaking in the shoes, but the tongue on these are just too high and stiff. I prefer ankle socks, but that leaves the skin exposed. I've switched to higher socks so the area by the tongue is covered, but the area still gets bruised, as you can see in the image (this is also after taking a week off to let the area heal) For what running shoes cost, this shouldn't happen. I'll try thicker socks next. I really like Altra in the past, but my next pair will really need to convince me to stay with them.

I wanted to love this shoe. My feet feel amazing and everything about this shoe was perfect... except the tongue. I really have no idea why this design choice was made. After wearing the shoe for 1.5 days, I am already getting cuts from the tongue. It didn't matter if I wore longer or thicker socks - same result.

I love these shoes so much but the new model has a new tongue design and it is completely horrid. The material is so sharp and cuts into my ankles, even when I put tape over the edges. ALTRA PLEASE FIX THIS!

Love these shoes: their fit, their function, awesome. But after only 2 months the treads are peeling off- not the quality I'd expect for the price tag.

The shoe is great with exception of the TERRIBLE tongue design! The stiff coating over the fabric rubbed a blister during my first run. I cut the tongue back and hopefully it will deter more blisters. Love Altra and have confidence the next design will be better! I would recommend waiting on the new and hopefully better design unless you are willing to "tweak" the tongue.

I did not like the way the tongue poked directly into my ankle.

I've tried on every make and model of shoes to no avail. With the wide toe area, I thought the Torin 5 was going to be the one! And it would be if the tongue didn't slice into my lower shin/ankle area. If it weren't for the tongue, I would have bought them in 3 colors. Please put a softer/shorter tongue in them!!

I decided to order a pair to replace my 2nd pair of Altras, which had worn out after many months of great service. (My first pair were Torins and served me equally well.) I considered the (many) other reviews that reported how the stiff tongues made this shoe unwearable but wanted to give them a chance on my feet. My experience confirmed those reviews, and I had to return the shoes after wearing them only indoors for less than two hours, total. I loved most everything else about them, so it was hard to send them back - and decide how many stars to deduct. I have ordered Escalantes and look forward to an easier fit.

The tongue on this is terrible. I rebought kn the coral color and the tongue isn’t as large. I kept that pair and they are a comfortable shoe.

I didn’t realize these had the long, stiff tongue that cuts into my ankle/leg. These are definitely going back, as I have had problems with this type of Altra tongue before.

The previous version of this shoe has been my favorite everyday running shoe. This version is perfect except that tongue. I'm not sure how this tongue design made it through the design process. I'm going to blame it on Covid.

I bought these knowing the tongue was an issue, but I needed a new pair and I do like the colors of this model. Haha. I cut the tongue waaaay back and it has helped, but it's just baffling that Altra didn't foresee this. That material is awful-hard, stuff, sharp, etc.
In addition, the sizing feels odd to me. I bought the same size I always buy for Altras (no idea how many pairs I've had over the years!), but these feel a tad small. I do like the cushion and road feel, but I'm a bit bummed by the sizing.

I've been wearing the 4.5 and decided to give the 5 a chance, in spite of the negative reviews. What a mistake. They feel ROCK HARD compared to the last model. I can live with the weird tongue and the slightly smaller fit but I cannot live without that wonderful cushioning. My feet were aching after 4 miles, which is unusual. The slightly more secure toe box is a mild improvement, so they got and extra star for that. I returned. Happy with the Olympus.

Loved this shoe, even though I had to go up a full size than normal, but the tongue is stiff and way too long. The sharp edge of the tongue cut into my shin. Very poor design.

I love altra and want to keep these but the tongue is so painful it's distracting. There are so many great running shoes out there, these are definitely not it.

I thought this shoe could really work for me but the tongue is so stiff and sharp. I just couldn't imagine actually walking in them. Plus, they were a little short compared to my Lone Peaks, but that could have been fixed by going up a half size I think.

This is my second pair. The tongue on the first pair mutilated my ankle being that the material is a flexible, but plastic with sharp edges. I mean Sharp! I tried everything I could to prevent the cuts on my ankles to no avail. I wasn't sure about purchasing a second pair because I didn't want to go through the break in period of having my ankles slashed, but the shoe is the best I've had so far. I read the reviews again to make sure it wasn't just me and to see if Altra improved the tongue. Altra didn't change the tongue despite so many reviewers stating their ankles are being mutilated. Which is Very disappointing, Altra. Long story short, I purchased another pair, trimmed the tongue, and went to running. Ankle is probably scarred for life, but the shoe worth it.....I suppose (at least until I find a replacement).
I would not recommend this shoe as I wouldn't recommend anyone electing to have their ankles SLASHED!
NOTE TO ALTRA: DO something about the tongue! Runners go through enough pain than to have to endure the distance and the stupid design of shoe tongue.

I bought these in November from the local Runner's Roost. I have had several Torin and Torin Plush models over the past 2 years and really like the cushioning along with the wide toe box. The tongue of this model cuts into my ankle for starters. It's sharp and rubs right where the ankle and foot meet. At the end of December, I began to feel pain on the lateral side of my left foot. I've spent months in PT and dropped my mileage to < 15 miles a week (from 40+) because of the pain. Today, I was observing the lace structure and realized this model has a lace hole that is outside of the normal line of lace holes. I only realized this when I went to re-lace the shoes based on a suggestion from the PT. Once I changed the laces and ran in them today, my foot pain was almost non-existent today. I'm really frustrated with Altra that they would change a perfectly good shoe from the previous models to this disaster of a shoe
