I got the wide, it fits perfectly. I wear a wide in all running shoes, now this one too. Last year's version was a little snug. This version is pretty different than last year's, but I love it! This is an incredible shoe! I wear normal socks, Feetures. The tongue is no big deal at all. It doesn't extend past the sock nor does it cut or poke.

I just found out I have Tailor bunions and I've tried 15 shoes and this is the only one so far that isn't giving me pain when I run. I loved my Altra Torin 4 shoes, they fit my foot perfectly until I wore them out. Thank you Zappos for allowing me try and return so many shoes as I deal with this foot issue. :)

I was pleasantly surprised at how great these shoes are. I was worried about the tongue, but my socks block any injury to the skin. I did go up a size because of foot length- I'm normally a size 5.5 in Altra's and the 6 fit better. The width was perfect for my foot (my feet are wider with a higher instep than most) and I didn't need to get the wide version. I've been running in the Escalante's for my road runs and Lone Peaks for my trail runs and I was starting to feel I needed something with more cushion. I could tell the difference with these shoes! I'm not sure if the shoe was designed to do this, but I definitely felt it correct my form through the ankles and feet which was weird at first, but I'm so grateful for. I could feel some weaker muscles working to do what the shoe was asking of my body. I was nervous about this shoe but I'm so happy I took the leap to get them. If I had anything to say about the design, I'd request longer laces and the tongue to be adjusted so I didn't have to think anything of it. I bought these from a store in Pasadena called Run With Us. I'm a fan! :)

I have finally found a shoe that fits. I am a mail carrier that walks ~10 miles/day and need something supportive as well comfortable. No other shoe has felt this good on my feet EVER!! I will be loyal Altra customer forever.

This is a very great "0 drop" shoe with some cushioning (which my older feet need!). Complaints about the tongue were noted by me prior to purchasing, however, I find a pair of socks which clear the tongue alleviates any problem. I imagine also, the tongue will soften up with use. One thing which other people have stated, this shoe definitely runs short. I am a normal size 8.5, sometimes 9 in an athletic shoe and this style took every bit of 9.5 to get a good fit! So, SIZE UP!
I'd also recommend:

I wear them every day to work, they don't squeak like my very first pair of Torin shoes did, and I still have them. I wear them working around the house. I love the wide toe box!!!

I'm a nursing assistant in a very busy ICU and my feet ache. In the last year I e developed a painful bunion and bursitis of the toe. I've been under the care of a podiatrist who finally gave me some shoe recommendations after all of the other shoes I've tried have fallen short of relief. Altra is the answer to my prayers. My feet are no longer so sore I can't walk, and my bursitis pain in almost nonexistent! I wouldn't have thought that these shoes could be so comfortable, but they really are. I wear my shoes 14 hours a day 4 and 5 days a week! Thank you, Altra! I have already been telling people to buy these! You won't be sorry.

If you have bunions (or other big toe issues) you MUST try these shoes. I implore you. Yes, the tongue is stiff and can cut you if you run in low socks; however, unlike a bunion, the Torin tongue is easily remedied: wear longer socks, preemptive bandaids, or long tights. These shoes are so comfortable that I bought a second pair after the first made me bleed my own blood. In sum, if you mainly run on roads or moderate (non-mountainous) trails AND you have a bunion, I absolutely recommend trying the Torin 5. And for what it's worth, the shoe never cut me while walking.

I love the cushioning in this model compared to some of the other models. I don’t notice any difference from the Torin 4.5. The tongue is high but I find it softens up quickly. The color I chose is described as grey with coral trim. The grey actually looks like a very pale green to me. I like it.

Love this shoe! On my second pair already. After 300 miles I had to retire the first pair. Lots is spacing and cushion feels just right!

Great road running shoe or power walking shoe right out of the box! Saw some reviews complaining about the tongue of shoe irritating the top of the foot where it hits between the ankle didn't find this an issue at all if you happen to wear socks that run a little higher in the foot-ankle.

I wanted to get on the Altra website to see if my new shoe comes in more colors! I wore mine for the first time this morning, with socks for a quick 3 mile hike.. I normally wear Brooks, had never even heard of Altra until I saw these in a local "General Store"... I absolutely LOVE this shoe! As I'm reading some of these negative reviews, I'm thinking..what is going on! For me.. I have no bunions, average width, size 8.. these are perfect! My feet don't hurt, I have not one complaint! Thank you, Altra! I'm your new spokesperson in the Carolinas!

Love my shoes, but the box and the ad say gray/coral. Baby those things are green and coral. Still love them just harder to coordinate!!

I love the Torin 5. True to size, cushiony, perfect for my foot, nice colors to choose from.I do wish the tongue of the shoe was made like the tongue of the Torin 4, which was softer and straight. The cutout in the tongue isn't helpful.

I was SO EXCITED to see this shoe in wide sizes!! I've been trying to fit my wider foot into regular shoes for years and now even have a bunion. These are perfect! I no longer have to order up a size due to lack of width. And not having my foot on a slant has been excellent on my knees! Bravo!!

Love these shoes, I was ready to quit walking before I bought these! I had worn Nike frees for a long time because the toe box was pretty wide, until they changed them slightly. I can't wear a wide sized shoe because the heels are always wide as well. After I got pregnant I got fat and so did my feet. I had foot pain for about a year after my daughter was born, which I guess was due to hormones because I'm still fat and my feet don't hurt anymore. Anyways, these shoes are great for my chunky feet and neighborhood walks with my gremlin. I do have the issue with the tongue poking me, and I agree next version should correct this feature, but I use liquid bandaid on the spot it rubs or wear ankle socks, and it's fine.

I was hesitant to buy because of other reviews about the tongue, but very happy I did. Favorite Alta Running shoe by far! Super comfortable and great fit. No issues at all. I also love the come in a wide fit.

The upgrades to the Torin, in my opinion, make it a more sturdy shoe. It feels lighter and more balanced when I run. It doesn't feel AS wide as the 4.5, but the shoe comes in a wide option. I normally gravitate towards wide shoes and bought the regular and it STILL feels wider than any other brand running shoes and fits me just fine, probably because of the general shape of the toe box. I actually like the changes to the tongue, haven't had any issue with it. I'm already considering buying a second pair to have as a backup.

I love my Torins! I was super disappointed with the last model but this one is very comfortable. And doesn’t construct the toes. Glad to see Altra going back to old habits. I’m using these for marathon training. Great shoe! I typically wear 8.5 in regular shoes. Always order a full size up for my running shoes—9.5 fit great.

I have bunions and a very wide toe profile. I am 54 years old and wanted to be more active but every running shoe I purchased killed my feet. No longer! The Torin Plush changed my life. I am now running foot pain free and am increasing my distance every week. I feel healthier and happier - thank you Altra for creating shoes shaped like my foot!
