My toes were at the edge of these shoes unlike with my 9.5 Torin 4's where I still had room.
Coming from a Torin 4, the Torin 5's run 1/2" too small.. so if you wear a 9.5, you'll want to go with a 10.

I went in and tried on the Torin 5's before purchasing after reading the that have been left. I wore my Torin 3s in and compared the sizing and saw and felt no difference in sizing.
After getting home I took them for a 4-mile run. I do see how some might not like the tongue of the shoe as it is a little stiff, but I just pulled the front of my socks up a little bit and it wasn't an issue. I would say that I feel that the sole of the shoe has been significantly upgraded since the 3's, and that they are much lighter than the 3's as well.
As a whole shoe I would recommend them for purchase, but also would suggest going in to make sure that the sizing is correct for you. I did not have a problem, but I know that others have felt they ran a half-size small. Since I have only run once in them I will leave the review as a 4/5, but if they break in as well as other Altra shoes I have had (Torin 2, 3, and King Mt 1.5) the review could easily be updated to a 5/5.

I have been in nothing but altra's for years and always been a 9.5 size, no matter the model. The 9.5 on the Torin 5 is small. Have to return and order a size 10.

Front left shoe has a spot on the third toe area that rubs and might cause blister. I've been using injinji toe socks so it won't. I'm hoping the shoe will break in and stop that from happening. The first pair I returned and went up a half size. Other than that they feel pretty good. I've used altra for years and the first pair that's rubbed my toes

The Torin 5's are my first Altra Running shoe so I don't have a comparison though my first impression when I put them on was how cushiony and soft they felt. The Zero drop is something you need to get used to but I felt more stable and in control given the design of the Torin 5's. I also prefer a high cushion shoe and the Torin 5 delivers on that as well as the responsiveness.
My only con with the shoe and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the tongue is a bit long and digs into my ankle, which is very notable on my long runs.
Overall, this shoe will be part of my daily trainer rotation!

I've been rocking Torin's since the Torin 3. I liked the 3 and 4, not crazy about the 4.5, but after I got a review pair and putting 60+ miles on these so far I like them a lot! The EGO foam is awesome, I didn't have any issue with the change in the tongue. If you're a Torin fan, I'd recommend. These are now taking about 90% of my run rotation.

I've been a big fan of the Torin 4.5 Plush. I went for the 5 and have been pretty pleased. They fit and feel similar to the 4.5 Plushes. Better laces, slightly springier mid-sole. The only drawback I've noticed is Altra made some changes to the tongue to make parts of it a bit stiffer. I had to adjust several times to try to get it to feel as comfortable as the 4.5 and it's not quite there.

I jave had the previous version of the torin and loved them so i bought version 5. The tongue is painful. Hopefully it breaks in. Please don't use this tongue anymore. Did you even do wear testing?

After about two years in a pair of loan peaks, I pull the trigger on these. Fit and finish was awesome, but after my first 20 minute walk, I realized my toe is rubbing up against the front, even though it's the same size as my other pair of Altras. The cushion is great. The heel cup is great. However, the sizing is not equal across-the-board it seems. Add a half size up in these is my suggestion.

This would have been a 5 star review if not for the tongue. I started using these during winter, so my socks have been stopping the tongue from slicing into my ankle. Hopefully it will soften up before the weather gets warm

My flat feet loved these for the first few days, but after that I realized that the zero heel drop was too jarring for walking. Went back to my Brooks with a normal heel drop to provide better balance.

A hole started after about one week above the toes, the bottoms started to separate after three weeks. I love altras but I can't keep justifying buying them, this keeps happening, with many models. Have to switch brands at this point. Durability has always been an issue with Altra but it's gotten worse and at this point, if I wanted to wear shoes that were always entirely whole, I'd be buying a pair every week. I'd like to wear nothing but Altras, my toes have physically spread apart since I switched to them and they feel great. But I guess I'll have to just get wides and experiment with new brands.

I love the comfort of this shoe but they don't last. The lateral sides at the ball of foot tore open. I have 3 pairs but I am very disappointed with the most comfortable pair I own.

Not bad but I prefer my older Altra shoes to these. There is little arch support and it makes me wonder whether they are truly zero drop because I don’t remember any sliding forward in my other Altras - zero drop means they are flat heel to toe, right?

I always used to get blisters with running shoes until I found this brand and I am so happy I did. My only issue is the tongue needs to be updated. Unless you are wearing tall socks, it irritates beyond belief. Other than that, I love the shoe.

Fantastic wide shoes with a wide toe box. That's what Altras are known for. Fairly comfortable but felt like I was just walking on Jello. These are zero drop shoes. If you ever get jumper's knee (or other knee issues I imagine), stay away from these. They will exacerbate your knee issues. I wish Altra made a non-zero-drop shoe because the wide toe box is fantastic. If you're a runner that likes zero drop shoes, you will like these especially if you need a wide toe box.

I really loved running on these as they were my first Altras, and I liked the larger toe box and comfort for my long runs. I had a similar issue with the tongue but got ankle-high socks, and things were fine, though annoying I had to buy socks to accommodate for a poor design. I was training in the gym yesterday and both sides of the shoe blew out. This shocked me as I felt the shoes were built with quality and they just failed under any pressure. Overall, I liked the shoe for running but will have to consider what to do if they can't hold up under more intense workouts.

I have 4 pairs from the Lone peak, king mountain, superior 4 and lastly the Torin 5.
The torin 5 has completely fallen apart. I run trails in the others and only walk in the torins. Only the torins have holes in the top and the bottom is actually flaking off literally the sole is coming off. It is absolutely the oddest thing.
When a company starts out (from my point of view) the quality is superior, for the most part. But after a while, margins get smaller and people are not buying as much as they had at the beginning (besides die hard followers) so companies cut corners. Maybe I just got a bad lot of shoes. Unfortunately I was looking for another pair but decided against it for this reason.
I was a huge promoter of Altra but I can not honestly do that anymore. Just my opinion.

With a pair of scissors you can easily fix the tongue problem inherent with the torin 5 design. Once you do that they are back to the 5 star rating they were as torin 4. .

The shoe is great. Wide toe box and plenty of cushion while still feeling grounded. I'm usually a 13 but had to go up to 14 which which is a first ever for me in any brand. As others have mentioned the tongue is horrible. Within an hour of walking my skin was red/chaffed due to the tongue digging in to the top of my shin. Needs to be redesigned.

I had a pair of Torin 4.0s that I got for plantar fasciitis and they were the best shoe I have ever had. I got these and the tongue is terrible. Too short and digs into foot. The need to go back tot he old style.

This is my fourth Torin and the first I have had issues with the tongue. It would be ok if I wore ankle socks, but with no show socks it rubs too much. On longer runs it would cause some wounds.
