Great comfort, have loved the Torin for years, but this version has an adhesive issue with the sole. Sending back a 3rd pair for the sole separating from the bottom of the shoe. Hopefully they’ll get the issue fixed eventually

I'll echo what others have said. Everything about this shoe is amazingbut the tongue. The first run with my typical ankle socks and it cut into my skin within 2 miles. Longer socks helped for awhile, but as volume started adding up it's so stiff that it starting to create bruising to the point I've had to switch shoes.

I've bought four pairs of Altra road shoes in the last year and been generally very happy with them. However, coming home from an 11 miler yesterday, I found that the tongue had rubbed through the skin of my right ankle, above my sock. I cut out the tops of the tongues before today's run. Worked all right, but I'll be waiting for and update before I try the Torin again.

The tongue is such a deal breaker that I did not even bother looking further.

Generally nice feel. However, the tongue has a hard abrasive edge the digs into the ankle. The tongue is also thin so you feel the laces if you tighten them up a lot which you need to do since the midfoot is also large. The toe box is also large but this part is good. The heel also locks in well. - returned

I ran for the first time today in this shoe. The tongue does cut into the top of my foot due to the length. It is a thin tongue and doesn't have padding. I love all the other aspects of the shoe. Fit and feel is great. I will probably modify the tongue with my pocket knife or put tape on my leg where its rubbing me raw.

Honestly Love yalls shoes however with this being my 7th pair. 1. sizing is very inconsistent 2. This shoe in particular I love everything EXCEPT the tongue! With low socks it is terrible, huge oversight in quality and customer satisfaction/ comfort. Really hope you this issue is a priority for the next model

Perfect shoe. Width and design are great and all of it is ruined by the tongue which digs into the dorsum of the foot and causes pain after about 30-45 minutes.

Let's cut to the chase. Vs. the Plush 4.5:
- The tongue is awful. Sandpaper. Wear Long Socks. Please change it back.
- The removable insole is thinner and less Cush; maybe they did it to lose weight
- Color schemes are mmmmph
- Shoelaces are really short
- Overall feel is no longer Plush but Soft Stiff
I removed the insole from my 4.5s and put it into my 5.0s and it is a lot better.
Please fix with the 6.0 version! This is my go to long run shoe right now.

Comfortable shoe but a half size too small.

This is only my second pair of Altra shoes but compared to the trial shoe it was a tad smaller. My biggest issue is the tongue is to tall and has a rough edge making it impossible to wear so I cut a 1/2 inch off. Some folks may not have this problem but I did. All in all I really like their shoes but you should try them in a store first.

I've been around the horn with Altra for years. I'm addicted to the zero drop and they remain the only serious game in town. I've also been a huge fan of their original wide sizing. Altras are the only shoes that have ever fit my fat feet. Altra's adoption of a new narrow sizing has left me to choose from only those shoes they deign worthy of the wide size option. Of those, only one truly fits: Torin 5. The last pair of Torins I bought were 1.5s, and they were awesome. I still wear them. Back then the men's size 13 was a perfect fit, but now the men's wide 12 is the right size. Given how well these fit and the high probability Altra will wreck something about them with the next iteration, I'm tempted to buy a half dozen pair. But I won't, not yet, because the tongue on these shoes is an insane torture device. What in the wide wide world of sports would ever possess someone tasked with crafting high-performance running shoes beloved by a dedicated community of runners to hold this plastic-stiff knife-sharp tongue in their hand (let alone on their feet up against their ankles) and think "Yeah, sure, that'll work"?! Unbelievable. I love Altra's zero drop and I love this wide size 12 fit, so I've done what others have explained in various reviews: I grabbed the scissors and cut the tongue down so it no longer touches my ankle (don't be shy about that cut, either, you have to take a looooot off). Fix this, Altra, and I'll take a half dozen to go.

For actual running this shoe is great. Comfort in the sole & fit.
2 faults: The tongue is stiff & it'll dig into the ankle (I had to trim it with scissors) & the tread wears out too quickly.

I bought these on recommendation from a friend . I love they way they feel but less than 2 months in they are already falling apart. There is holes in the toes and the sole came apart. Very cheap for the price you pay

Great cushion for longer distances. They run a half size small.
I had to trim the tongues down to avoid getting more abrasions on the front of my ankles. Altra, please fix this issue and this will be a five star shoe.

I've run in the past two Torin models. I ordered the same size as my previous and they definitely run small. I need to send them back and order a 1/2 size larger. They are noticeably more narrow than the previous Altras I have had, but still wider than most brands.

It feels great, looks great, performs great...but that stupid piece of black rubber under the lateral toe box keeps peeling away. I've had two pairs, bought online, that I've had to return. Altra is an upstanding company but why it felt it had to add this piece of useless decor, I do not know.

Echoing previous comments. I have been running in Altras for years including Torin 4. Torin 5 smaller with toes rubbing. Also noted that the Toe box is more firm/plastic feeling. Altra was great with return!

Had a pair of Torin 4's (non-plush), loved them as my first Altras. Bought the new Torin 5, but they seem to be built on a different last ... the current size 12 is definitely smaller than previous Torin 4 size 12's, toe is hitting the end. In the store, it seemed right, but after some runs, it's apparent something is different. Too bad. The width and heel snugness I love is still there, but I do miss the mid-foot "saddle/strap" design that the Torin 4's had. Wonderful way to further support the mid-foot area. Wonder why they dropped that innovative concept. Lastly, the tongue that others complain about is not an issue for me, it's soft enough. In short, nice comfy shoe, but make sure you check length before buying. If I had gone 1/2 or full size longer, they'd be perfect.

I was torn on how to rate this. These shoes are AWESOME with one big "but." I had a 3D scan of my feet and I have a narrow heel and wide forefoot. So I was excited to try on these shoes. The fit was better than anything I've ever tried and the cushioning is like a more controlled but equally soft/bouncy "boost" shoe. Unfortunately I had to send the shoes back: after my first run the tongue literally cut my ankles and blood was running down my foot 15 minutes in. The other reviews are not exaggerating, it's that bad. The only way I can imagine anyone NOT having this issue is if they maybe wear taller socks? Altra: fix this tongue and you have the perfect shoe. But until then I (and sounds like I'm not alone) had to pass.

Have been wearing Torin's for a number of years, Some issues have been address in this version, however a material change to the tongue is awful. They left me with cut and bloody ankles with in a few miles. I was able to shove the tongue under the laces to resolve this. If they would have used the same material used in the last models tongue this would not be an issue at all

I recently bought my second ever pair of Altra shoes after the soles on my first pair could no longer be glued back together. I wore them just about everyday for over a year. This second pair I've had just over a week and already sections of the soles have come unglued. I'm disappointed to say the least. I work a job that requires a lot of standing and some walking, but about 95% of the time I am in my truck or in a residential home so I don't feel I'm asking for the shoes to perform under extreme conditions. I like the zero drop shoe and the foot shaped toe of Altra's, but I hope they can put a little more thought and effort into their construction materials or I'll have to find another shoe company to support.

I need a large toe box and was pointed to Altra. I also need a wide shoe in general. Unfortunately, even with Altra, there aren't a ton of options for wide shoes, let alone wide shoes with a wide toe box as well. I ordered the Torin 5. I was a bit concerned with all the other reviews complaining about the tongue but, while the tongue could be improved, I got used to it and now it's not much of an issue. Would like a shoe with a bit more cushioning but, again, my options are limited since I need both a wide shoe and a wide toe box. However, the fit seemed a little wider than others so I may try a regular width which would open up more options for me yet still get the wider toe box.
I generally log about 35-40 miles/week. Will likely purchase again.

For me they were a full size too small. Normally take an 11. Reordered an 11.5. Still too small. The shoe tongue was uncomfortable (no padding where it meets the base of shin). I wanted it to work cause otherwise it was a very comfortable shoe.

A) This was probably the most comfortable shoe "out of the box" that I have ever owned. I love the concept of designing shoes based on actual foot structure and ergonomics (genius!). I have Morton's Neuroma (think surgery level bad) and found these to alleviate some of the discomfort that comes with that condition when trying to run - enough to make it reasonable to run again. Did I say comfortable yet??? Well, they were (and still are) and I'll try another type of Altra next time.
but,
B) the construction of this version needs serious help. The sole started to disintegrate and delaminate within weeks of me owning them, between 4 to 6 weeks. I am not a high impact high mileage runner, and average maybe 5 to 10 miles running 3 to 4x a week (bad feet). I logged maybe 40 miles in total and the sole was already disintegrating and delaminating (not just worn down, but coming apart), which never happened with my Saucony. Then a few weeks later the upper cloth type construction started to wear out with holes/small tears in multiple areas, also very premature, some of which are pretty big. I only use them for low impact walking/running, so having hole/tears at the 2 month mark was a disappointment. By 2 months of average wear/tear they were looking like 1 yo shoes.
Overall, I would recommend them as they are super comfortable and one of the only shoes I have found that alleviate Morton's Neuroma to some extent (not entirely). I only hope they put more effort into the construction, as shoes costing +150 per pair should last longer than 2 months.
