My first run in the Altra Torin 5 started as a progression Door-to-trail run(23 miles) after 5 easy miles. I couldn't help but notice how light and bouncy the Torin 5 felt, leaving me no choice but to run faster! Bye-bye progression, hello tempo. So I decided to take a detour that led to the Bastyr University trails in Kenmore, WA. Much to my surprise, they rode well on the 10+ damp, off-road miles. The remaining miles were a nice speedy downhill ride. The Torin 5 was highly supportive of my forefoot strike as I speed downhill. Success! after a nice long run and a few easy-paced ten milers in the Torin 5 I can honestly say I love them, and I'm stoked to add them to my rotation!

I can't count how many Torins I've had but this one is right up there. Compared to the Torin 4, the 5 feels cushier but at the same time more responsive. Good update.

Wow As good as advertised. It's honestly like running on a pillow, and pushes you to go faster. Note: The shoe does run small, so recommend half sizing up. Strongly recommend this shoe though.

This is my 5th pair of Torino's. I am an RN and on my feet all day. These are better than Hoka , lightweight and cushion !!! Buy these shoes, you won't be disappointed

I run only about 20 miles a week and these are great on the treadmill and on the road. Great fit I always were a half size up on Alta shoes. The foot shape is the most amazing thing. Thanks Altra!

I am an Altra fan and have been since the first Lone Peak. I moved to there road shoes and a few years back settled on the Torin's. The Torin 4.5 was horrible, it gave me all kinds of blisters and issues, so I had to return them and revert back to the straight 4's from a discount website. Badley in need of new shoes I ordered the 5 and I have to say they are great. I wanted to get some miles on them before I reviewed. So far at over 100 miles and I have done two half's in them now I must say no issues. The sole and footbed as supportive and a little firm but have a good road feel. The upper is snug where it needs to be and roomy where it needs to be, I have read a few reviews that said the toe box was too large, but I do not see that gives me enough room for my feet to spread and nothing is rubbing the tops or fronts of my toes so all is good. I would say the lounge is not my favorite but it also does not bother me while I run so I can look past it. All in all a great shoe!

At first they felt a little sloppy in the toe box, but just adjusted laces. I own 9 pairs of altras because all the other competitors shoes have a heel toe drop that's Destroys my calves(hoka). I have 2 torin plush which I were all day. One pair of the torin 4a and I like them but wish they had more cushion. Well HERE THEY ARE! perfect fit, very very comfortable with a perfect amount of cushion!!!! These are better than the Paradigm for max cushion. The Torin5 is the shoe I've been searching for years and years. Cant say enough good things about these shoes. Nice color combos also. The longer tongue is perfect, so it doesn't slide into the shoe

I was looking for a shoe with added cushion for sore heels and arches and after trying on at least 10 different shoes I went with the Torin 5. Very pleased. I don't want to take them off!

My new favorite daily running shoe by Altra. Even more so than the Torin 4, as I feel like these have a little extra spring to them. Didn't even notice the tongue was a problem because I wear crew socks

The Torin feels like it used (non-plush version). I wasn't a huge fan of the Quantic midsole, so the Ego is a great upgrade. The tongue does rub so crew socks are in order otherwise, this is a great shoe!

I am so dang happy to report after an initial run the Altra Torin 5 receives my patented "Ooooo weee!" rating. I had a blast running in this thing. The EgoMax midsole is exceptionally soft while also offering just enough bounce to keep you humming along without sinking into the foam. Outsole is fantastically grippy and the upper is premium all the way. My only word of caution to you prospective buyer out there is to spend some time beforehand figuring out if the lacing system works for you as-is. I had to fuss with mine a little to make the midfoot lockdown comfortable (out of the box I felt like it was locking me down like a vice). Overall, I'm so pleased with the Torin 5 after my first run. I'm genuinely grateful this model retains the classic Altra footshape and I can't wait to put more miles into these bad boys. Easily the most comfortable shoes I've worn all year.

If you liked the 4's (non plush), but were not so impressed with the 4.5's...then you are in for a treat! Shoe feels back to what it used to be!

Began wearing these for 10-20 mile runs without needing to break them in. Great for all roads. Now looking for a pair that's similar, just slightly more snug, so I can wear on more technical trails.

I wore these shoes into the ground! They were my everyday shoes for two years, the first pair I'd found that didn't restrict my pinky toe. The inside heel wore pretty quickly, but I was able to patch it.

I have bought 5 pairs of these shoes over the past 2 years because they are the only ones that support my arches in such a way that they are not in constant pain. However, the material on the uppers is thin and flimsy, and my big toes have gone through the material on the top of the shoes on all of the pairs that I have bought. I have cut my toenails short and it doesn't make a difference. Please make the material on the uppers stronger!

I was sold this product as perfect for day hikes and trail use. While very comfortable their durability is questionable, and given their expense, was the biggest drawback. However, I would buy again, hoping the company fixes the problems with some glue and fabric wear in the toes. I must have the soft tongue as I have not had the issue I've read in other reviews.

This is my second pair of Altra shoes. I love the toe box area. Allows your toes to splay out for max comfort. The cushioning is excellent in these shoes. They are very comfortable. I believe they run a tad bit small. I had to return the 8.5 and get 9 instead. Zappos was fast at getting me the exchanged pair to me before I had a chance to mail back originals. They make exchange process so easy.

I've had these shoes about 8 months. About 5 months in the edges of the bottom layer of the soles started coming up so I put "shoe glue" on them. Again today they were coming back up so I reapplied a layer of shoe glue. I really like the shoe, the wide toe box is nice, the insole felt really nice I just wish the sole would have stayed down longer.

Finally I feel like Altra has returned to their roots with this shoe with every aspect save for the tounge. Thank goodness b/c I was very close to abandoning the brand. All the right fit is there for the toe box, but the fit that I feel has returned again that really got lost is the width for the middle 1/3 of my feet which now again feels unsqueezed without the shoe feeling too loose. However, the tounge is made of tungsten (had to) and will dig into your ankle until it breaks in which will not be less that 50 miles of work.

I've bought 2 pairs of the Torin 5 now in the hopes that they fill the void of Torin 4.5. Torin 4.5 was my favorite pair of running shoes I've ever owned (more than 5 pairs run through). Torin 5 is a great shoe that I will continue to use until I find something that mimics what the 4.5 was for me. I am a big fan of Altra and advocate for the shoe within my small community.

I did a lot of research on this shoe before purchasing it. The overwhelming reviews are negative and focus on the tongue. However, the one characteristic that stood out to me was that all the reviewers were not using the heal-lock method to tie the shoe. They all left the top lace holes empty. This allows for the tongue to dig into the ankle because it doesn't sit flush with the sock/skin and it cannot bend where the lace crosses the tongue when the ankle moves forward. I know many will not agree with this assessment, but that's the way the tongue appears to be designed. I use all the lace holes with all my Altra shoes, so this has never been an issue for me. The only reason I gave the shoe 4 of 5 stars is that the laces are too short for using this ankle-lock method. Thus, I can only lace normally (criss-cross) to these holes and that leaves barely enough length to finish tying the shoes. So, with this issue, I can see why many others don't tie the shoes to the uppermost lace holes. I have an average-sized ankle and foot, so anyone with a larger foot would definitely not be able to tie their shoes while using all the lace holes, that is, unless Altra includes significantly longer laces with the larger-sized shoes (I wear a men's 9.5). Side note: Why do all Altra models have varying types of laces?? Some are smooth and round, and some are flat and rigid. I personally prefer the flat and rigid since they stay tied over longer runs. However, I've never understood why the laces are always different. Some are too long and some are super short. What gives Altra?? Just for reference, I currently own and actively run in the following Altra shoes: Olympus 4; Superior 5; Rivera 1; Timp 2.5 (two pairs); Escalante 2.5; Lone Peak 4.5. In terms of fit, the Superior and Timp's fit my foot shape the best. The tongues on the Superior are awesome.

This is my first pair of Altras and I'll be buying more from now on. Wide toe box fits me perfectly. I can confirm peeling from the soles after only about 40 miles, that's the only reason it's 4 stars and not 5. If I wear a sock that covers my ankle the tongue is not an issue, but I understand the complaints. Coming up on 400+ mi in them and still feel great cushion.
