I see how some ppl could say the tongue is sharp but i have not had a problem with it at all. Great shoe overall

Please make more size wide options. I struggle to find shoes that don't hurt my bunion (including regular Altras). Tongue doesn't bother my ankle. Good cushioning and fairly light. No complaints from me.

Great shoe and wonderful updates over the Torin 4.5. As many mention, the tongue has an edge that could dig in if wearing no show socks or if you go without socks. I wear compression socks, no not a worry to me at all. The updates to the heel are AMAZING and the new cushioning is a huge improvement over previous models. Styling is nice too. I'm big - 6'4" and 230lbs and use these almost exclusively for walking. Average 13'15" pace over 6 miles and the fit and cushioning are perfect.

Tested out the Torin 5 on a 12-mile run this morning, mostly pavement and some gravel. Super responsive, comfortable and have great tread. Can't wait for my next run in these shoes!

After almost not buying the shoe because of the numerous negative reviews, I decided to go with my gut and buy a pair for myself to try, since Altra sneakers have always served me well. Great shoe! I am an avid triathlete, and I train about 20 hours a week. I tested this shoe on my treadmill first, coming from the escalante racer, I wanted a shoe with max cushion so that I could give my body a chance to recover more efficiently, and do less damage to my body on the run. After running a half marathon on the road, I knew these would be my new running sneakers. Excellent cushioning, the heel portion hugs my foot perfectly. Many of the reviews stated that the tongue is a problem. I don't know how that is, since I wear thin socks, and I lasted just fine without any blisters or chafing from the tongue. Only issue is sizing, which I read a lot on the reviews, but after chatting with a live representative, I was recommended to get normal width and half size up. Perfect fit. Very happy with my purchase. I will continue to purchase these shoes. Great job, Altra! Lets just hope these shoes last the test of durability.

So nice to have a great running shoe in widths again. This makes these shoes a pleasure to run in.

I have had a few versions of escalantes and the Torin plush. This feels like a nice combo of both. The escalates are a little to thin for me so I always wanted a little stiffer and a little more cushion with a similar feel and I think they nailed it. The torin plush were heavy and the foam felt dead after a few miles. Now each year it seems like altras lose their width so I went with a wide this time and I have the shoe I wanted altra to make for a while. The tounge feels normal, it is a little thin but I wear socks when I run so im not sure what other people are experiencing but I didnt notice it. Also I have done the heel lock on every version of altars except this one so I agree with what people are saying there. Hopefully this shoe is around for a while with the fit and cushion this is the shoe I wanted for a few years.

I have bunions. Most traditional extra wide shoes are too narrow, as are regular width Altras. Finding shoes is impossible. The Torin 5 wide is a gamechanger for me. My bunion doesn't hurt, at all. The show is cushioned, light, and has a flexible / soft heel collar. I'm not a light runner at 170 pounds, and this shoe serves me well as a daily trainer. I also have Achilles issues which don't feel bothered by this shoe's zero drop. Altra, I hope you consider making your lighter shoes available in wide. I tried the Escalante / Racer but the normal width is too narrow for me (the shoes are too rough for me without the insole). I would definitely buy exclusively Altra if more models came in wide. Thanks for making such a great shoe.

I'm a 6'1" 210lb CrossFitter. I have big, wide feet & shoes are a problem. Until now. I can run a 5k in these as well as train and throw around a barbell. Achilles was an issue previously b/c other shoes crammed my foot & changed my gait. Problem solved with these I went with 13 wide, and they're perfect. Only shoe I've ever put on where I instantly felt what "fit" was, vs feeling my foot being pushed around. Huge. Been using these for about a month now and Achilles issues have almost entirely resolved.

I purchased the wide version of the Torin and I am very pleased that these shoes are wide enough. As with past versions my main complaint is that these shoes do not wear very well.

I've been running in Altra shoes since the Instinct 1.5 and this is the first pair that are wide enough to let me use the bottom set of lace holes. The current narrow models do not work for me at all.

Disregard one of the likes on reviews concerned about Altra changing width, that was me. I have been buying Torins since 1.0 and have fat, wide feet and was nervous reading reviews about more narrow width. These sneakers feel as comfortable as ever. I thought the box was empty they are so lightweight. The tongue was not a concern and I don't have any discomfort running in these. I'm psyched!

I bought this shoe (my first Altras!) a month ago on a recommendation and have a hard time taking them off. These reviews about the tongue are overexaggerated!! The shoe is extremely comfortable, durable and very light weight. I've been wearing for traditional runs and bootcamp style workouts and absolutely love them. I've worn no socks, low ankle socks and middies and have never felt any discomfort from the tongue. Huge fan of Altra and recently bought the Timp 3's for trail runs/ hikes and same feeling...awesome!

Fit is excellent, however a bit snug vs expectation of Altra's rep for wide toe box. I normally wear 11.5, tried on in store and needed 12 Wide (the 12 was still not wide enough). As to the common complaint about the tongue... the material edge IS "sharp" thin foam, if you touch it with your fingers. In practice, wearing thin socks I didn't feel it at all as I jogged a couple miles tonight. The tongue didn't cross my mind a single time. Shoe cushioning and balance feels excellent. I have a Morton's Neuroma injury on one foot, it actually felt better after the run. The wide toe box let my foot flex fully and naturally in a way my other runners haven't. That action and stretch for the foot was super beneficial. Was hoping the shoe would keep my foot from feeling any worse after a jog (something my other shoes cannot pull off). Quite thrilled to find that the shoe actually helps my foot recover. Would highly recommend these shoes

Altra really got it right this time on the cushioning. Not too squishy like last year's Plush versions, but still softer and more supportive than the "regular"4s. Definitely feel like you can run further more comfortably. These will be classics.

I rarely write reviews on shoes. I have had foot problems my entire life and always found it difficult to get properly fitted shoes to fit the toe box. I am a size women's 11 1/2 WW but always found the men's shoe size 10 WW to have a more generous fit in the toe box. I've tried all of the "wide" shoe brands out there. I found New Balance 2E or 4E to be the only ones close enough in the width, however they tend to be too wide all over and also they slip in the heel. I did try Altra 10+ years ago when they first came out. They advertised that they run wide and even though they had a foot shape design they were still not wide enough in the toe box. ALTRA this year finally came out with a WIDE version of their shoes. I have to say that so far they are absolutely PERFECT! I bought the men's size because they are more generous than the women's wide and they fit perfect! Like slippers! I bought the Lone Peak wide a few months ago. Last week they came out with the Torin 5 in the wide and I purchased those too. I'm not a runner or a hiker but I plan to use these shoes for short walks while camping and for walking around town. Thank you Altra for making your shoes a true wide and keeping the foot shape. They are wide enough in the toe box but snug in the heel!

I use these everyday all day. Best looking shoe out there. About the tongue digging into your leg, I wear short socks by gildan and stops any irritation. Other no show socks aren't long enough and will dig in your leg

Out of the box the shoe is a home run if you are looking for a great all around trainer. It is already my favorite altra running shoe. The ego max is leaps and bounds better than the quantic mid sole that felt like a stale marshmallow. The shoe is light with bounce that makes tempo pace and speed easy to find; with enough stack height to let you pack on miles. The shoe has a satisfying lockdown in the heel and mid foot. The forefoot is a tad more near than a typical altra but I found it to be a welcome fit. This is not a shoe if you need arch support or stability. I went true to size but this shoe does run a half size small; make sure to size up. The shoe is flexible and will keep you feet engaged on the run but without punishment.

The Torin 4 was the best shoe I ever ran it. The Torin 4.5 was may have been a good shoe with an absolutely horrible fit. I ordered the Torin 5 in my regular size. Like many others I though they had missed the boat again. It felt very short and low volume. I reluctantly ordered 1/2 size up and it is almost a perfect fit. I'm relived to be back in a good shoe again. Hope Altra does not jack with it for a while.
