If you liked the Superior 5 but wanted more stack, this is the shoe. Honestly I'd like even more padding for road running, but this is the shoe for people who either don't like a lot of arch support or who feel like other shoes are too narrow in the midfoot. It's Altra, so obviously there is tons of toe box room. In other brands I order 4E extra wide, but this shoe fits me fine. If you need a little more midfoot or arch room, look up a parallel lace method. Nobody should be labeling this shoe as narrow.

This year, I've been switching to minimalist shoes. Previous runners were Hoka Bondi 6 EE but I love the Torins now. The toe box is wider; the midsole is, as other reviewers say, both springy AND responsive. Love that they come in EE width, like my Lone Peaks. Now, more color selection (e.g., black) in EE, please?

My left for is wider than my right and so most running shoes are very narrow fitting. These shoes were a great fit for me and I can wear them all day with no discomfort. Thank you Altra for making shoes that fit wide footed runners.

I think that I have had every iteration of Torin that Altra has built! I had the Torin 4.5 plush as my last shoe before these and it was a bit more "plushy" than these, but no complaints. Still plenty of cushion. Did 12 miles the day they came! No problems.

I really, really like these shoes. I've worn them every day since I purchased them. When I tried them on in store I literally didn't want to take them off. So I didn't. I wore them out. They're so comfortable. The wide toe box is incredible. I love the zero drop. The sole is super cushiony yet springy. I use these as my daily shoe. I do not use them for running and do not plan to. All in all I'm a huge fan of these shoes and can't say enough good things about them.

I am an experienced Altra wearer. I love them mostly. I have only worn these once but they are great so far. I would like to note that they DEFINITELY run large. I can't really understand why the same brands of shoes have such variety of sizing but just consider when purchasing. BUT since it is Zappos, I returned the "too large" ones and am happy with the replacement!

Altras are my go-to shoe due to the wide toe box. But when I got a pair via Zappos that was defective, I was impressed with how Zappos handled the matter: simply, expeditiously and fairly. Thanks, Zappos.

I used some of the original lone peaks a long time ago and remembered Altras feeling a little too chunky, and heavy, while being loose. Fast forward to now and they are perfect, despite being lightweight they have a really roomy toebox but the heel is LOCKED ON, which is a big pet peeves of mine running up steep trails or hills. The tongue doesn't bother me, and I like this reboundy sole. I thought the torins would be too thick but actually they are just right for a minimalist road shoe.

Standard Altra shoes are wider than most brands, but my feet are just wide enough that I still have to go up half a size in my stretchy Escalante's to get a truly comfortable width. Unfortunately, that means the shoe is too long for me which makes for a clunky fit and interferes with my gait. The wide Torin completely solves this problem, allowing me to wear my correct size and get a great fit. I will try the wide Lone Peak soon as well, but PLEASE start offering Wide sizes in more styles (and colors)!

Have Torin 4.5Plush. Torin 5 just feels more just-right. sorry, no technical review jargon. Used this shoe for a 42 mile trail (crushed gravel rail-to-trail) last weekend and it was fabulous for my feet. No issues. But knowing the tongue was an issue, I cut the tongue down below the logo to top of foot arch. The stock lacing system is great and did not come up above the cut out tongue. Highly recommend. Great road and light trail shoe!!

I have the Altra Racer (nice and light and very comfortable), the Escalante, which has done me very well for longer runs and now the Torin 5. I was looking for a show with a wider toe box (so I always go with Altra), more cushion in the mid foot and heel and feel that locks in my heel with no slippage. This shoe delivered exactly what I needed. I have a sore Achilles Tendon from running way more then I am used to, so the Torin will be my go to shoe for ultimate comfort while healing from this as well as some of my longer runs when I feel wiped out. lastly, I look forward to start my running again in this Torin and complete some longer runs with it. Awesome shoes.

Great shoe. Laces are shorter than the last model which is a good change. I did struggle with the tongue as mentioned in some of the other comments. Proper socks fixed that issue.

Altra's best road road shoe yet! I was worried about the tongue based on other reviews but I love it. My Injinji socks come just above the edge of the tongue and there is no rubbing at all. To the opposite, the lack of bulkiness on the top of this shoe makes for a much better light weight feel and feels more secure on the foot. No more stopping mid run to readjust my laces! As for the width that some folks complain about, I think it's perfect. Not everyone has duck feet. It's nice to finally have a foot shaped shoe that I can spread my toes in without the sloshy feeling. I will be buying numerous pairs of these to keep in the closet because I'm worried that the next update will change something I'm super happy with. Now please make a trail shoe that feels this good.

I have always worn a size 10 but needed to size up to 10.5 in these and they fit like they should. I had an issue with the tread lamination and customer service fixed it quick. Highly recommend!

I have been running in barefoot style shoes for the past decade or so, but have wanted a shoe that maybe gives me a bit more cushion for longer runs and just to ease things a bit for comfort. Some things to note about my stride: I underpronate, and I'm a forefoot / midfoot striker. I've never purchased wide shoes, but after ordering a pair of (non wide) Altras, I found they were extremely tight around the ball of the foot. Length was fine, but the ball of my foot was WAY too tight. So I ordered the Torin 5s in wide figuring, hey maybe this will work out. Turns out, I should have been ordering wide shoes this whole time, and that basically all of my shoes are too tight on the ball of my foot. The reason I'd gravitated to barefoot shoes all this time is because they were generally wider than other shoes. It seems obvious that I would've figured this out by now, but I mean, they're shoes, and I've never really thought that hard about it until now in my life. In terms of performance: the shoe feels extremely springy, a feeling I personally really enjoy (to me it feels like my barefoot shoes, but with springs under them when I'm running). I run faster in these than my barefoot shoes, and my feet feel significantly better, especially on 6+ mile runs. Honestly, I'm not sure how I ran my half marathons before this, it's absolutely game changing for me. A side bonus: I no longer have shin splints. Could be completely unrelated, but I used to get sever shin splints when training, especially when doing walks / hiking. They're gone in these shoes. So, this is probably a review more in favor of proper fit for shoes in general than perhaps for the Torin 5, which is only my second foray into the Altra brand. But I genuinely love my Torin 5s and will run in them until they physically fall apart. The fit is great, the feel is awesome, I run faster and with less discomfort and pain. That's kind of my holy grail for shoes. The only con as far as I can see it: wide shoes from Altra can be hard to find, but they're literally the only style of shoe I will ever buy from them going forward. They should make more of their shoes available, and I'd hope they'd make them all fit the same (I've heard that the Lone Peak 5s do not fit the same as these, but I may order a pair just to see, as it would be great to have a hiking shoe that fits like these Torins).

I've been running in Saucony's for several years but they redesigned their latest release and no longer fit me comfortably. So..... I tried several other brands over a month and finally settled on Torin 5. I've run a couple times in them and holy smokes - I am really really REALLY happy. Zero drop! Wide(r) toe box! YES! FINALLY! I don't have a wide foot but suddenly needed a wider toe box. These shoes are the PERFECT solution. I cannot tell you how much difference my run feels. Zero pain and lotsa room for my toes to do what toes do. Woot woot! SOOOOO happy! Just as a heads up - I'm writing this in September of 2021 - It took a month to get these shoes from Fleet Feet in Orlando. Apparently Altra is having production issues, just like every other company in the world these days. For me, the wait was totally worth it. Lastly, YES, the tongue COMPLETELY sucks. I am forced to wear higher socks to prevent injury, which is nothing short of annoying. Hopefully Altra pays attention here and fixes this in their next release.

I've always worn a competitors shoe but wanted to try Altra's now that there are some wide fit choices. I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised and the torin 5 wide is quickly becoming my regular workout shoe. Get balance of light weight, support, and comfort.

After hip surgery the Altra shoes work better than the shoe I had previously used. I think having a more natural gait helps. Can't run anymore but walk 3 miles daily. Altras work well for me.

The only shoe for everyday in town walking. Most comfortable, great toe box space, very good sole cushion, effective grip on all town surfaces, ok in dirt. Had to go up one size. Like the new laces and more simple tongue. Also love my lone peaks for trails. Will only wear Altras.

I'm a size 13 wide, 45yo male who runs & does CrossFit. I have a wide forefoot which has always been a problem. Not anymore. These are the first shoes I've ever immediately bought a 2d pair of. My foot doc recommended these to me given my foot shape I typically supinate when running due to the toe box cramming my foot and heel lift. These shoes solve it and have resolved a lingering Achilles issue that came from poorly fit shoes. I've heard about the tongue issue. I see what reviewers mean but I've never had an issue at all. For me the tongue sits flush with the top of my foot and isn't raised I to my shin.

So I typically wear a neutral shoe 10.5 wide. I did my research and went with the Torin 5 wide size 11 and they are perfect! Width I spot on, heel cup really locks in your foot and the shoe is cushioned but still responsive. Extremely happy with my purchase. Also the tongue is still but hasn't given me any problems (as some reviewers have mentioned)
