I have bought the past 3 Torins but don't think I will be buying them anymore. These were way too narrow for my foot. Need to go back to classic size of Altra's, the reason I went with them in the first place.

The tongue is made weird and rubbed my front portion of the ankle area. The show bends right below the lace bottom and blistered my foot. Had to return the shoe!

I have been running in size 14 Altras for 3 years now including the Torin 4.5 and the Torin 5 was more than a full size too small... I've read others say the same thing. How does that even happen?

This is my 5th pair of Ultra's, and I couldn't even run 4 miles in these shoes before the tongue was too painful cutting into me and I had to stop, and I returned them to the store the next day. Did they even have any reviewers try this shoe out before putting it to market?? Also, the sizing was way off from all of the other shoes I've had from Altra. I'm normally an 11.5 shoe, but had to get 12.5 in these, so the mid foot was kind of sloppy.

I've been running in Torins for years. I loved the 4.5 plush, loved them. The tongue on the new 5 is a semi-hard rubbery material that is too long and rubs the top of my foot/ankle. The size seems smaller in both width and length. I ran in them and therefore can't return them so we'll see, maybe the tongue will break in some. One other thing is that the laces are so short I can barely get them tied what the heck Altra???

The Torin toe has been narrowing in width but has also shortened to be at least 1/2 size too small. It's a 1/2 too small compared to previous Torin models and other Altra shoes.

I read reviews online that rated Torin 5 as the top rated running shoe with a wide toe box. Having worn Torin 4 and VIHO models (which I loved) I went for the Torin 5. First impression was that they were very comfortable. But within a couple of minutes the funky tongue was digging into the front of my ankle. It was really uncomfortable. For me, the tongue was a fatal flaw and I returned them promptly.

This is really an appeal to the designers target than a review for potential buyers I suppose. The Torin 4.5 plush with its quantic foam midsole and comfortable yet supportive upper was probably my all time favorite road shoe. The Torin 5 isn't a bad shoe, it's just really not a good successor to the previous models. It's more like an Escalante plush than a Torin. As a final request, please leave the quantic foam in the Timp. I have been making them run double duty for long gravel roads as well as trails and will be kinda sad if they go the way of the Torin.

This is my 8th pair of Altras and I have noticed a trend towards a shrinking forefoot. I got these in wide and am happy with the width in these compared to the recent past versions. I purchased these a few weeks ago despite the complaints about the tongue. Thankfully that problem can be worked around with either long socks or cutting a bit of the edge of the tongue off. My biggest complaint is that I have only walked 20 miles in 2 weeks and the bottom is already showing significant wear for that distance. I don't know that paying more (than previous versions) for these was worth it if they are not going to last. The width of the forefoot (in the wide version) and the cushioning is great though, I just hope they get rid of the tongue and can figure out the premature wear issue.

Right shoe was OK. Left shoe tongue was bent in half, and was permanently creased. I returned for refund. If I had kept the shoe, the tongues of the shoes would have rubbed my ankle, and been a problem.

Not a runner. I got the wide torin 5. Tread is peeling up at 7 weeks. Heel is loose so my toes push laterally and cause the squish of a narrow shoe. Also need more height inside, my foot is tall?

The designer who created the stiff tongue that cuts the ankle should be required to run a 1/2 marathon in these shoes and post a photo of the ankle after.

My toes hurt in this model, something is different than the 4 and 4.5. The soles are already coming off and I only run a few miles a day 3-4 times a week on a treadmill.

man, I really wanted to like these but they are really just sandals. There is no support at all, just a soft base but that’s about it. No way I could run in these without pain, maybe this is by design but they are not for me.

Shoes fit well and are comfortable, however after wearing them for about two weeks the tread started coming off. Plan on reaching out to get things sorted. Great shoe, but I'm disappointed that this issue arose almost immediately.

The Torin 4.5 is superior to the Torin 5 in the following ways: more cushioning, true to fit (5 is 1/2 size shorter), and much better bounce. I searched the net for 4.5s; fortunately, I found 2 pairs.

Straight out of the box shoe felt great. Mile one, loved the shoe. Mile 2 started to feel rubbing on front of ankle from stiff shoe tongue. Mile 4 & 5 complete chafing and bleeding of front of ankle. The tongue of shoe is rigid, sharp and will cut through skin. Torin 5

I love this shoe. Unfortunately the tongue is as bad as everyone says. I put in 4 runs before I gave up. I couldn’t justify spending this money only to cut the tongue out of the shoe. Loyal to Altra but some of the design changes have left me scratching my head recently.

I should have listened to the comments - the tongue of this shoe is poorly designed, at least for those who wear short socks. I could feel the tongue digging in to the front of my ankle immediately - not going to work for me. Aside from this unfortunate design feature, the shoes had the cushioning I was looking for and I would reorder if they update. But returning this pair for now.

For the last 3 updates I have had great success and love for the Torin and Torin Plush. I was ready and excited to try the love new update. However it is one of the worst updates ever. The tongue literally cuts into your fleshit absolutely painful. If you can get past that then you'll notice your usual size is way to small! And even worse it's more narrow. This isn't the Atra brand that I love. Going to have to try something else and hope for the best next update.

I recently bought the Torin 5 and it is my third pair of Altras and my second pair of Torins. The fit and cushion seems to be more like the Timp than the older Torins only stiffer and not as comfortable. My main issue is what were they thinking when they designed the tongue? Did someone say "let's make it stiff and thin with no padding so that it cuts into everyone's shin"? My first two pairs have been awesome but they better change the tongue to something more user friendly or they're going to lose a lot of customers!

I echo the previous comments about the tongue. Whoever designed it never ran in a shoe that uses it. Why put sharp plastic edges on a shoe tongue? Make no mistake this shoe is a Torin Plush without using Plush in the name. Why Altra did away with the original Torin makes no sense to me. This shoe is an improvement on a terrible shoe (Torin Plush) and a complete downgrade to what used to be the Torin.

Since the Torin 4 - the shoe has progressively become more narrow. The tongue design on this shoe will cut into your ankle area - don't wear ankle socks. Looks elsewhere for a wide toe box shoe...

The 4.5 plush with Quantic midsole was a perfect shoe. Assuming the plush is discontinued and the 5 is what we are left with, I'm disappointed. Way too narrow at the ankle and the Ego is too rigid.

I've owned at least 10 pairs of altras all of them being a size 11. The torin 5's definitely run small. Also the new rubber material the tongue is made out of tore up the front of my ankles from rubbing in a matter of 8 miles. These are the first pair of altras I've owned that I have not liked.
