The current version of the Torrin has a problem with the tongue which cuts into my ankles. I have actually cut the tongue back to fix. The length of the tongue has not appreciably changed but the material construction has (for the worse)

Had I read the other reviews about these shoes, I probably would not have bought them. The design of the tongue is really bad. It's very stiff and cuts into your ankle when running or walking.

These are the first Altra shoes I have owned, I like the design and how open the toe area is. These took a little bit of time to break in before you get to enjoy the full comfort but once they are broken in they are very comfy. I very much like the 0 mm drop and have difficulty with high drop shoes but can see how no drop can bother some, something to consider when buying them. The sole cushion and comfort do seem to last longer than some of the other shoes I have owned. Overall they are a decent shoe that I enjoyed wearing but they cannot take any kind of trails or off road use. My toes are completely worn out after 4 months of 4 to 5 km walks a day. The wear I believe is from incidental kicks of roots and rocks. Very disappointed in durability, once a small spot of the cloth starts to wear then it seemed to be completely worn out in 3 or 4 weeks. If you only walk on pavement and are not accidentally bumping your toes into curbs these may work but I wouldn't count on the toe material lasting. A small part of the tread has also come loose and will need to be glued back in if I continue to wear them. I also found they weren't the most comfortable on gravel roads seemed to feel the rocks more than I would have liked. I purchased some Lone Peak 6's, they have a pretty rough feel on the pavement when getting to the trails but are better once on the trails. Overall they aren't as comfortable as the Torins but I have only worn them a few days.

I love the Torin, but for heavens sake, please never use this hard tongue again.
I have four previous models along with several other Altra models, but I won't buy the new Torin if it has this hard tongue.
Soft tongue, please.

I think it's a well known fact the soles of these shoes fall apart within weeks of standard wear (not training). Doesn't seem like Altra plans to do anything about it. Built to spill kinda deal.

Bought those shoes end April 2022. Put about 82 KM on them (roughly 50 miles) and the sole and upper started separating already.

It has the worst shoes tongue.
Very thin plastic and strong.
Looks like thin laminated papers.
Not soft and might get scratched your front ankle.
Don't understand why it designed like that.
Worthless, just wanna take it off.

The tongue is very thin. It either folds when putting it on or shifts when walking and I need to stop periodically to adjust it. Comfortable but sole worn out quite a bit after only 6-8 weeks of walking the dog in the neighborhood. The Torin 4.5 was a much better shoe & they should go back to that one!

Ran in these for about 4 months and ran around 12 miles a week. They are really comfortable and plenty of cushion. However, the outer sole is already peeling off of the mid-sole. I love my lone peaks and they have held up great. Not sure what happened with the Torins but definitely not the quality that I would expect for the price you pay.

After many pairs of Altra shoes, the Torin 5 is a huge disappointment! I was hopeful that the 'torture tongue' would break in, however after 150 miles, unfortunately it has not. This tongue is way too stiff, especially considering many people who wear low socks. Buying another pair of shoes soon, but thinking about cutting the superior aspect of the tongue just for the satisfaction of it. The anterior ankle abrasions were really fun. Another distinguishing feature early on was the 'Achilles tendon grinder:' I believe the Achilles notch is too stiff, just like the tongue. After some Achilles skin irritation and pain, this fortunately subsided. My 3rd complaint is the wonderful roomy toebox that was: this shoe is way too tight. I have worn the same size consistently, but this shoe feels cramped in width and length. I recommend a lot of Altra's to my patients, but this one is a hard pass to everyone!

I found them to be the typical Altra width. Appx 1/4 size too short, but wearable. The sole material is responsive, but the split sole makes for a very squishy ride. I can feel the split sections, making it uncomfortable. Sole rubber started coming off after a week, and the mesh around the toes wore off after two months. The sole reminded me of a tall Altra One, but the added stack height with no structure means it's just squishy and strange instead of fast. I found the tongue to be fine.
I may be done with the Torin line. Too many changes and it feels like Altra doesn't know what direction to take them now that they have so many other options.
Altra honored the warranty.

I have gone through 3 pairs of the Torin 4.5 plush in the past 2 years. I still have 4 unworn pairs I hoarded as they started to be discontinued. That's how perfect that shoe is for me. I decided to give the 5 a fair shake. I was not impressed. My number one gripe is no more Quantic midsole. The 4.5 has the best forefoot cushioning of any running show I have ever felt. Nothing even comes close and the 5 with its Ego Max feels like concrete comparatively. Not sure why they have ditched Quantic, but it's definitely worse now. I am also the person that likes the foot shape toe box, but still have a pretty slim foot. The 5 was too wide and I had a lot of play while running that caused blisters on the ball of my foot. It doesn't feel sock-like anymore. I am returning the 5's and continuing my hunt online to snatch up any remaining pairs of the 4.5 plush because to me, that was Altra at it's zenith.

I am not sure if it was this Version or the last, but these shoes are EXTREMELY narrow compared to the last. My feet are extremely cramped in these shoes and they are just not comfortable for that reason. I will take the blame for assuming the sizing was the same as my last set of Torins so I will eat my mistake for assuming that. Unrelated to sizing, the tongue is extremely uncomfortable and left me with cuts on my ankles when I wore low cut socks to run in. If you have wide feet or like to run in low cut socks, I would second guess this shoe. If you have narrow feet and wear long socks, then maybe this will be the right shoe for you.

The tongue makes it unwearable due to it slicing into your leg. When wearing higher socks it's not so bad but I don't want to have to wear high socks. Has anyone been successful with cutting it? I'm debating it

This shoe fit well as expected with the wide toe, however the build quality is unacceptable for a premium priced shoe. After only a few days the treads on the bottom of the sole began to peel away and fall off, and after two months the stitching has broken away from the blade of the foot.
This was my first pair of Altra shoes and it will be my last.

Feel is actually quite similar to the pinacle of shoe, the torin 4, however they ruined the tongue. If you like to run in no-show socks, go get some longer ones. The tongue is stiff and thin enough at the end that it will actually cut your ankle. No blood yet, but my ankles have actually scabbed up the day after a run from the abrasion. I've relegated my 5's to winter running (with long socks), and gone back to my beaten up 4's awaiting a redo for the 6, and fingers crossed they fix this flaw! My 4's already have over 500 miles

I have had the shoes for about a month, maybe 15 on them. The bottom grip is peeling away from the sole of the shoe. Too bad, loved them otherwise but they seem to be poorly constructed.

I like how the show looks and I felt for the most part. The tongue is just too thin, stiff and sharp. I attempted to fold it and break it using alligator clips without much success. If the tongue was different it would have been a very different experience.

Loved the torin plush 4.5 and the feel of the shoe for the torin 5 is almost identical or even better. Unfortunately the sharp edge of the tongue but right into my ankle. The salesperson suggested replacing all my socks with 3/4 instead of crew. I decided to find another shoe instead. Look forward to coming back to the torin in the future.

I never got to run in the shoes. The tongue is very stiff and long, and juts into your leg if you're wearing short socks. The shoes did feel good, and I was looking forward to wearing them, but the tongue was just too uncomfortable.

So bummed the sharp rigid long tongue ruined this shoe. Wore sores in my front ankles. The Plush Torin 4.5s had a soft comfortable tongue and it's been replaced w this horrible razor tongue! Too bad!

The tongue on these is a compete dealbreaker. I had a pair of Turin 4 and they were the best tennis shoe I’ve ever owned. I ordered four pair of Altra in one order to find the “new ones“ for me. I sent all four pair back the next day. Runners don’t care about all these gimmicks. The tongue is trash.
Seriously just upgrade the look of the Torin 4 Plush!

Tried them on and loved the feel and fit. I did notice the shoe's tongue hitting my ankle but didn't think too much of it. Went on a run and had to stop after a few miles due to the tongue rubbing me raw.
