I've worn LL Bean boots for decades. As a female upland hunter and dog trainer, I really rely on good footwear. These boots came with low quality leather, that is so stiff, I've had to dump cups of oil and conditioners to try to soften them up. Additionally, the insoles are disgusting, oder holding garbage. Gone are the nice leather insoles that used to be in these boots. My dad would be disappointed and so am I. This isn't the quality I expect from LLBean.

I just got these boots in and I have wanted these forever and finally got them. When I got them I put the laces on the shoe and tries them on and saw that they rub the tongue of the shoe which I am really disappointed about especially paying so much for the boot. I am hoping to exchange them

For some stupid reason, I thought this shoe was leather. Wrong. Fit way too large and would be rather difficult to break in, I think. I returned the item.

I certainly can't say that the leather on these boots is thin or poor quality. Unfortunately, its so thick and stiff that I had to work leather conditioner into it over and over and put paper clamps on the tongue where it connects to the sides so I could get my foot in and wear without pain. After about 3 wearings they've become comfortable; not warm, but comfortable. I didn't buy them to be warm, so it works out. I've still to be able to lace the top hole - the laces are like wire, they're so stiff. These boots are not what I expected from LL Bean, but I like them. Maybe by the end of the spring they'll be broken in and wonderful. Now, not so much.

Fit, comfort and appearace are ok but not excellent. Cushion inside is ok for short walk but when i go from dorm to classroom bottom of feet feels some strain. We buy everything from LL Bean and would still continue to do so. This one experience does not change that.

I ordered these online as my first bean boot despite living in NH my whole like. I liked the boot but the fit was bigger than I expected - my feet felt like they were moving all around despite following the size chart. They were also not warm at all. I ended up returning them and going to the outlet to try on boots in a different size and went with the thinsulate boot which fit better and is much warmer!

The boot is hard to get on once I have it on its a little loose but if I had gotten a smaller size it never would have gone on my foot. Its also not a warm boot there is not insulation at all which was disappointing.

So far one year into these boots living in California. The one factor that I read is they are difficult to get on, I agree you really need to loosen the laces in order to get them on. Also my feet don't sweat but my boots stink like cat urine I do not have a clue as to how they would have this odor. I love the boots but the tightness of the opening and the smell are detriments.

These boots are comfortable and waterproof. I loved them when I first put them on, but I sized down and they're still a bit big. Although a little big, it didn't bother me. What bothers me is the constant squeaking & how it's hard to get the middle flap flat to tie the shoe nicely. I've worn them a lot since buying them to "wear them in" & try to get the squeaking to go away, but it's still there. Overall, I still like them & wear them, but for over $100 I expected a bit better.

I've loved and admired the classic Bean duck boot for years. Finally decided to buy a pair as a Christmas gift for myself! I am a solid size 6 in women's shoes, and a 6 is the smallest size offered in this boot. I hoped that the generous sizing (oversizing?) wouldn't be an issue. I would have ordered a 5 had that size been available. The boots arrived, and I loved them, but every time I would put them on, with the thickest boot socks I owned, my feet would slide around in them. I'm a little bit OCD about shoe fit, and the oversized nature of these proved intolerable. In my opinion, the 6 boots fit like a 7. Since there isn't a size 5 available, I must reluctantly return these. I looked at the boys' and girls' boots, thinking maybe the sizing would be better for me, but the colors offered are quite limited. I'm sad. Please, LL Bean, will you offer your wonderful assortment of colors in the duck boot in a true size 6? I should also add - my college-aged daughter also received a pair. She wears a true 8.5. We ordered an 8 accordingly, and she says these also are too large for her. Fortunately, we can exchange these for a smaller size, though we may have to find a different color as what we ordered isn't currently offered. Bottom line: in this household's opinion, your duck boots are awesome, but just sized too generously, even when worn as recommended with thick socks.

First, there is absolutely no lining, so it is quite stiff and cold. The leather goes all the way up the lacing, so it's difficult to get your foot in. This would not be good in cold weather. Very disappointed and had to return it. To get the shoe lined, the price jumped to $225. Crazy expensive.

These boots are great for rain and snow -- they keep my feet perfectly dry. The biggest downside is that they're super noisy. The boots squeak with every step and I don't know how to make it stop. I've worn them several times now and the squeaking is relentless. :(
For reference, I normally wear 8's in most shoes and the 7 fit me well and I can comfortably wear any sort of sock.

My boots arrived and they are indeed lovely and wonderfully constructed. However, I can barely get my foot in and out of them! I read a TON of reviews before I finally received my boots and not a single review mentioned that the opening makes it difficult to get the shoes on and off. Or maybe other people just don't have a problem with this like I do? My feet are generally a size 9, I sized down one size (as literally everyone in the world will suggest that you do). When I say they are hard to get on and off, I don't mean they're a little bit difficult, I mean they were practically impossible to get on and it took A LOT of effort to get my feet in these boots. After a significant amount of struggling, I was able to get it on and once on, they fit decently well. I have large calves and the boots were tight around the very top. I'm also 5'3 and the 8 inch was much taller than I expected, so between that and the tightness, the entire thing looked a bit silly on me (this is just my opinion of how they looked on me personally, they seem to look great on everyone else from pictures I've seen). I've been told the leather stretches, but it seems like I'd need a lot of stretch to make them work for me. Overall, I think the 6 inch may suit me more and I'm in the process of exchanging for those. I think that due to the size of my foot, wide caves, and short height, that the 6 inch will be a bit easier to get on and will look much better on me. Again, nothing wrong with the boots themselves or the construction of them, the 8 inch is just a very tough fit for me and I would think it may be for others with a similar shoes size and height.

Living in the mountains of Colorado, I really wanted to love this tan/navy boot but there was not enough warmth for me. I wear a 8.5 and decided to go with the size 8 boot. They were a little bigger than I was expecting even with thick socks on. I opted to buy the shearling innersoles and once those came in, the boot became too small. Without the shearling, the boots were too cold for me.
I opted to exchange for the Tumbled Leather Shearling Lined Boots, size 8 and immediately noticed the different in comfort and warmth. They fit absolutely perfect and started to warm my toes right out of the box. HIGHLY recommend the upgrade if you are looking for warmth.

Unfortunately the boots did not work for me. The fact that the tongue of the boot is sewed to the top makes it difficult to slip the boot on easily, which was part of the reason I purchased them. I am returning the boots and intend to visit a retail store so I can try other styles on instead of the back and forth of ordering and returning.

Bought these boots before a trip to Ireland! Took a little bit to break them in, as expected with leather. Unfortunately, my socks inside have still gotten wet if I've ever stepped in even a small puddle, which was disappointing. Not super warm, but still a decent shoe I guess. Really like the 8" height.
I'm usually a 7.5 or 8 and ordered a 7 based on reviews, which is still a little long! You really have to loosen the laces most of the way down to put them on too.

My review is not about the quality of the boot, they seem well made. The problem is that according to the website it was suggested I order a size down from my normal size 10. I ordered the size 9, but my toes came right to very end of the boot when I tried them on. There was no way I'd be able to wear them, especially with thicker socks in winter, so I had no choice but to have to take the time to box them up again and stand in line at the post office to return them - not very convenient.
