I found that if I wore thick socks it was hard to get my foot into the boot. If I wore thinner slick socks, I could slide right in. I use these boots at the stable on muddy rainy days. I wish that some kind of finish on the inside of the top of the boot would make it slicker so I can wear my heavier socks to keep out the cold. THat's the only reason I gave these boots 4 stars instead of 5. Once my foot is in the boot it fits fine. It's just a pain in the patooties to get my feet in with my heavy socks as the friction is almost insurmountable. FYI

First, the boots definitely live up to their reputation for quality. They are exactly what I needed for rain & slush. However, they are difficult to get on & off due to their sizing. It seems like the bottom is proportionately larger than the top leather shaft, so when sizing down, it makes the boots fit around the foot, but too small to easily put on. They are definitely something to put on and wear the whole day, not a good choice if you take shoes off/on frequently. Also, I really wish the laces were a few inches longer so that when I open them up as far as needed to put on, the laces don't slip out of the holes.

These boots are terrific. I love wearing them. They are comfy with the removable insole and the sole isn't slippery on wet surfaces. They do take time to get the leather broke in. These run large. I normally wear 9 in running shoes and I ordered 8 in these boots and they are big.

I'm finally getting on board with the classic 8" LLBean duck boots. I've never really understood the hype, but I needed a new pair of casual boots that will get me through the Fall/Winter before I break out the heavy duty insulated pair I save for extreme conditions. First, I have to say that I am normally a 8.5-9 regular width in Brooks running shoes. Most of my every day footwear are 8.5's. Because of this, I ended up ordering 3 pair to try on. The first being an 8 regular. While I liked the boots, they felt a bit too big even with my LLBean camp socks on. So, I then ordered the 7 regular and 7 wide. I figured if I went smaller, I'd still need room in the toe box when sizing down. While I've never felt my feet are "wide" per se, I do not like cramped toes. Well, I have to say the 7 regular fits best. I'm able to wear my thick camp socks comfortably. If I were to wear thin socks, I'd want to size down again, but I bet a 6 would be too small. Since these are not the insulated version, I always plan on wearing thicker socks anyway, so the 7R is best.
The quality of the boots are great. A nice, thick leather upper with tacky rubber bottoms in the classic tan/navy are cute paired with tall socks and jeans or leggings. They are warmer than I thought, but I haven't tested them below 30F for an extended period yet. A good pair of socks is key, and to be honest, the LLBean camp socks are not the ideal sock. They're too rough and not warm enough. I have not yet tested the boots in snow above 1" or in extremely wet conditions, but they were fine on a rainy day. I'm happy with the purchase so far.

Recently bought my Bean Boots to prepare for a Boston winter and I am loving these shoes. I also needed a rainboot but this covers it too! Even when there isn't inclement weather, I'm tempted to wear these boots simply for the fit, comfort and look! Getting the shoe on and off can be difficult, I've found, even if you have the right size shoe for your foot. Also, it takes a few days to break them in (but what shoe doesn't?). Overall, I'd highly recommend these boots! We will see if the 8" holds up in the snow!

I went with the recommendations on sizing an ordered a size down (I am normally a size 8 and got a size 7), so I can wear them with thinker socks in the winter time. They feel great with a thicker sock. They seem like the need a break in period since they're a little stiff, but otherwise a good fit and comfortable. They aren't too bulky looking and look cute with leggings or jeans!
I am also very pleased with the customer service I received on the order!

I was very excited to receive my boots, and in a reasonable amount of time. However, I choose the wrong length. They will be return. I ordered the 6" last night.

I LOVE my new boots. Nice and lightweight, and good feel on the ground going through the woods. I normally wear a size 9, ordered a size 8 and they are still a bit roomy with thick wool socks, feel too large with thin socks. The craftmanship of the boots was average (leather cutting not even all the way around where the leather meets the rubber), but I don't mind that much on a utility boot like these. The leather itself is nice, and the boots still look new after four hikes and two upland hunts.

I have wanted Bean Boots for so long because I have heard so many good things about them and I was so happy when they finally arrived a couple days ago in the mail. The shipping was a day early, which is always a nice surprise.
I was a little worried about the sizing and fit because I hate returning things so this was going to be either a hit or miss. I'm usually a size 7/7.5 and after reading millions of reviews, I ordered a size 7M. I'm happy to report that they were only slightly big, but I'm hoping they'll fit better once I break them in.
Like many other customers, the only problem I had with my boots were that since the tongues were sewn into the sides, they would not stay flat no matter what I tried. It's not that big of a problem, just a little annoying at first, and I don't mind it enough to return them.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase (thanks Linda!) and can't wait to start wearing them during the long New England winter!

I could not get my foot into the boot because the tongue is sewn into the sides on the boot making a very narrow passageway. I had to return the boots. They were high quality boots.

The tongue of the show is sown with the shoe so it bunches up a little weird and not as easy to slip on. The soles aren't as comfortable as I remember. The fluid tongue of the shoe is a way better fit and style.

I bought these boots in a size 8W. All of the photos of the boot did not show that the tongue of the boot is one piece with shoe string eyes on either side. The opening at the top of the boot was quite narrow to be a wide width boot. It was difficult getting the shoe on and off. The shoes are made well, but I can not wear these boots with thick socks in the winter. I will only wear these in the spring and in the fall.

The boot construction and look is great but having a high instep on my feet makes it hard to get the boots on. Otherwise the boot is a 5 star.

Though the boot fit, I found it very uncomfortable to walk in and I couldn't imagine the break-in process would happen very quickly. The upper joins the bottom of the boot at weird angle and that angle makes the boots difficult to pull on and walk in.

I am a 7 in most low heel shoes. I ordered a 7 and they are to big. So I ordered a 6 without returning 7 so I could compare. Once my foot was in the boot the 6 fit perfect, but it was a nightmare putting them on with and without socks. It has no stretch of some sort in the upper portion of the boot to get your feet in the boot. So I kept the 7. Even though the 7 looks big on my feet, it was much easier to put on with and without the socks. I found a 6 1/2 on the LL Bean site but they cost more and felt like the 6 1/2 wouldn't be much different than a 6 when putting the shoe on. So I kept the size 7 just so I can put the boot on with ease. Size up even if its too big in the feet, otherwise you would struggle getting the boot on.

I love the boots except the "tongue" doesn't give enough to put your foot in the boot.

Nice boot but mine leaked. Definitely need to wear with thick socks as recommended.Unlace the top few rows to get foot in. Laces are a tad short. A shoe horn would be useful. Why does Bean want me to pay shipping to return a defective product under warranty?

I really did love these boot for walking and gardening, yet in 2 years the heels wore down so much that I had to send them back to be re-heeled (I paid for it) and was told that these boots are for "hunting" not walking on asphalt and not for gardening. WHAT? Anyway I still love them but you might want to re-consider if you use to walk a lot as I do.

Im a letter carrier and bought these boots for work. I walk 9 miles every day and these are perfectly comfortable all day long and were comfortable straight out of the box, the leather did not need to be broken in at all. I normally wear an 8 1/2 or 9 (40 in euro size) and with these in a size 9 I have a full thumb width of space in the toe. Also, I normally have to buy wide (D width) shoes and boots, but these fit my feet perfectly in the medium (B width), with plenty of room for extra thick wool socks, or even two pair of socks for really cold weather. I feel sure footed with these boots, no slipping or sliding in wet grass (of course any footwear will slip on ice) and my feet stay perfectly warm and dry. Absolutely love these boots and would recommend them to anyone who needs a solid pair of comfortable rain boots.

Good heavy duty boots for winter weather, but I ordered my normal shoe size and they are a bit big. Next time may need to order a half size smaller.

This was my first pair of Bean boots and I wanted to love them. The problem is the construction of the boot. The tongue is sewed to the boot making it very difficult to get your foot in. Forget wearing anything but a thin sock. The boot fit perfectly. I usually wear an 8-9 depending on the brand so I ordered an 8. With no lining at all, and stiff leather walking immediately caused blisters. Aside from the look of the boot, there is nothing positive about it. I wanted a tan/blue duck boot and this is the only 8 inch option for women. I would have ordered one of the lined boots if they had my preferred colors. If Im willing to spend 200 dollars I shouldnt have to settle! I just ordered from a competitor for a fraction of the price.

Beans 8 unlined, lace-up, rubber-soled boot is handsome, rugged, and provides great footing in snow. The 8 size is just tall enough to keep most snow out but not so tall as to be a nuisance. I particularly like the UNLINED version of this product because I can provide my own insulation with thick woolen socks: theres no permanent lining to get dirty and matted. In sum, the 8 unlined Bean Boot provides good traction in snow and can be made warm for your feet with the addition of your own choice of insulating sock, ensuring that the inside of the boot stays clean over many seasons.
