There was a lot of glue and the leather was not lined correctly.
I originally ordered the wrong size and customer service was spectacular, but my first boot was made much better. Kept the new because I didn't want to send back again

I usually wear a 9 shoe but purchased this in size 8 according to reviews I read. However, the boot is both too long in length and too wide. I doubt a size 7 would work because that would be down 2 sizes from what I usually wear. It's costing me $6.50 to return these which really irks me!!!!!!!!!! And would cost me an additional $6.50 if I did order the 7 and they didn't work out. (I can't otherwise comment on the item since I never had a chance to wear them and have never owned a pair of LL Bean boots. 3 stars simply because I'm disappointed.) In addition, I am clicking on NO - I would not recommend because I can't recommend yes on something that didn't work out for me.

The pull tab at the heel for pulling the boot on tore after two weeks.

I was so excited to finally get my first pair of Bean boots. I had lived in Maine for 25 years and never purchased a pair. Here I am in NC, and finally decided. The boots are great, the quality is great, but the 6 inch height KILLED my round inner ankle bones. The leather cut into my ankles and I could barely walk. I wore them 5 times hoping to "wear them in" but they never got better. So I had to return them. Gun shy to try the 8" height- not sure if it's the material or the height.

I have wanted these boots for years and desperately wanted them to be as awesome as the reviews. I normally wear a 9 1/2 so we ordered the 8 as instructed by the online size guide. I could barely get my foot in the boot. We went to the store to try and get the better size. The 8" was rubbing so badly on my legs with the hard leather that I opted for the 6" boots and ended up with a 10!
I tried the boots on again at home and they just felt uncomfortable, too big, and too wide as I had to cinch them up super tight. (I was not told they had narrow by the clerks so I'm sure that would have been a better fit if I had known.) The seams were poking into the tops of my feet also. I decided to return the second pair as well.
I ended up with the padded collar tumbled leather pair in a size 9. Which I love-comfortable, no rubbing, feels more narrow and great fit! Happy ending achieved! :)

These are crazy big. I'm exchanging for a size down. Normally I wear a 10 or even sometimes a 10.5. These are so big that I'm fine with ordering a 9.

I received these boots as a Christmas gift a few years ago, but am only now feeling compelled to write a review. Don't get me wrong, I love these boots, but there is a lot to be desired. First, upon receipt there were and few loose threds along the stitching. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying. Next, these boots run large, even for my size 11 foot. That being said, I wear thick socks and purchased the shearling sole liner which make it a perfect fit. (Highly recommend the liner; it's super warm and comfortable, and these boots have minimal support). These boots are not incredible warm, so if you're spending an extended time in cold weather be warned. Finally, there is virtually no traction on these boots. I've fallen a few times, and had many, many close calls. They do sell an ice gripper attachment, but I would think boots marketed for winter would have better traction. I do like that these are versatile and can be used in the rain and snow.

I liked the actual look of the boots, but was very disappointed to find that the "tongue" was attached to the sides of the books.

drawbacks are: the slip on aspect makes it hard to get on, and the tongue is very rigid, causing chafing unless I wear a heavy sock, or a bandaid.

I bought these boots upon recommendation from my daughters for a trip to Ireland, which is often wet and rainy! I ordered one size down and kept my same width, and they fit perfectly. They were very comfortable and did their job. I only wore them three days, but they squeaked with every step. This was annoying to both me and others and totally unexpected from a boot with a reputation for quality!

The run large but comfortable. One of my pair of these rubbed and still rubs my ankle raw. even though they appear broken in, and I've tried to use boot stands to keep them straight one of the boots rubs my ankle to the point of bleeding. I'm exchanging for another pair in hopes that the pair I received last winter were defective.

I had to return my first pair because they were defective. The second pair are better but to be honest I am not as pleased with them as I have been with their other products. I expected them to be more comfortable.

I wanted to love these. They were the perfect height for snowy days commuting in NYC. I knew they would last because they were LLBean. But, the tongue of the boot on my right foot rubbed against my ankle so much that it caused a lot of pain. I don't know if it was the fit of the boot or if I just have sensitive ankles. I couldn't deal with it enough to see if they'd break in after a while. It didn't happen on my left foot, so could just be the way that particular pair was made (especially since these have such good reviews otherwise). Otherwise they were comfortable kept my feet dry. Sadly, I had to return.

Very comfortable! I would recommend going down a size, though, as they run too large. I don't believe they come in half sizes, so I wish I'd gotten a 6 instead of a 7. Also, wore them in pouring rain once and felt water penetrate between leather upper stitching and rubber part of boot, but just on the right one. I wear them with heavy wool socks so they'll fit better.

I've wanted these boots for years and had them on my wish list for months. I have always had a wide foot and now have a bunion to boot. I explained this to the customer service rep when I called. I normally take a 7-1/2 W, extra wide when possible. She insisted a 6W would be perfect. Ouch!!! My big toe rubs the toe of the boot and the width is a bit snug, too. Also, there is no padding in the insole. I went out and bought thinner socks but that didn't help. I suspect the 7W will be too long. Logic has told me for years that if person #1 wears a 7 and finds a 6 the perfect fit, that person #2 who wears a 7-1/2 cannot possibly find the perfect fit in the same size 6 shoe that fits person #1. I've always loved LL Bean but am very disappointed in them for glossing over the half sized issue in their boots. Sorry, but these are going back.

I've had a pair of 8" shearling lined Bean Boots for a few years and love them. They can sometimes be too warm though, so I wanted to get an unlined pair.
Enter the 6" Bean Boot. The online sizing instructions are not accurate for me. I luckily went into a retail store to try on prior to ordering. I normally wear an 8.5 shoe and I went with the 8. My toe was touching the end of the boot in the 7, as the sizing instructions would have put me in.
The biggest disappointment though is the color. I ordered the Burgundy Brown. In the photos online, it looks like a rich reddish brown (as the name would suggest). Received them and they're essentially purple. Not sure if I'm going to keep them because of this. I really wanted something more of the color in the photos.

I bought these for a trip this summer to Ireland because rain boots are highly recommended. I normally wear a 8 boot because I have to insert arch supports. However, after reading all the reviews of how these boots run way big, I went with a size 7. Even with the insert they still look/feel somewhat big. I've been wearing them around the house to try to soften up the upper leather, which is very stiff against the shin area, and that seems to be helping. I'm debating whether or not to return for a size 6 and/or narrow width.

I love my boots and they keep my feet warm (combined with the wool socks I purchased), however, the construction was a bit sloppy regarding the stitching. On two areas (one area per boot) the white stitching sticks out and has now become frayed. The stitching was was like this on arrival and has only become more frayed. If I had the boots for many years I wouldn't mind as much, but I just purchased them a couple weeks ago. Additionally, I hesitated to send them back since the wait to get boots is typically several months. Additionally, the flaw doesn't change the functionality of the boot, it just looks sloppy.

Read all the reviews on sizing and LLBean's sizing chart. I wear 9.5 and wide foot. Bought the 9. Too long in length even with heavy ski sock. Returned. May be easier to get the correct size if you don't wear half sizes. Would like LLBean to just size their boots by the standard sizes instead of having to play a guessing game. Also, I had to guess if my socks are medium or not. I did not want to try again with a size 8. Rating is only based on being hard to buy the right size.

I had been looking to replace boots of a similar style and promptly ordered these when I saw them online.
As per the "Fit Tip", I ordered down from my usual 8 1/2 - 9 size and crossed my fingers that the size 8 I ordered would fit. Boots arrived and when I tried them on, was pleased to note that the 8 seemed adequate, even allowing a little "wiggle" room by the toes. Wore them around the house and out to collect the mail, walk dog. As time went by, discovered the material was so stiff, it began rubbing against my ankles. I switched to heavier socks, thinking that would solve issue. No such luck.
So will be sending these back, they are just too stiff and I really don't see them "unstiffening" over time.

My first review didn't make it so I'm starting again. This is a well made boot. The traction is great so you don't feel like you are going to loose your footing. The boot fits like a glove, it hugs your foot and supports it. I gave these boots the test when we recently had some snow. When I took the boots off after 30 minutes, my socks were wet. I bought the boots for the waterproof feature. The laces are really stiff, but I suppose over time, they will loosen up. I am returning these boots and have another boot on order with LL Bean. The new boot has gortex or something that helps with the waterproofing. It's a great boot just not what I needed.

I bought these shoes about 4 years ago. I don't use them much: in town when it's raining and outdoors ( I live in the countryside) when the mud is not bad enough for rubber boots or when i just don't want to worry about getting dirty or ruining other shoes. Towards the beginning of the LLBean's third year the stitching on the inside of the heel started coming apart due to wear. Now I can actually put my finger in the gap between the rubber and the leather. So much for durability. Other minor defects are the insole, the fabric started coming off the foam really early in use ( I even tried glueing it back on but to no effect), the "traction" which on muddy slopes is no good at all, and the fact that feet get rather sweaty, particularly if the shoe is worn all day, to an extent that feet feel colder with the shoes on rather than off; but this of course is because the shoe is rubber.
On the good side the shoes look really smart, they're comfortable, you can wear wool insulation in them (great for cold winters), and when the stitching is good they are truly waterproof.
Overall ok but durability is not the key feature.
Also if walking through wet fields I would advise a higher rise because these do nothing to keep your pants dry

I had a high recommendation from a relative about these boots so was excited to receive mine. Because of that I had not fully read the reviews. The first pair I ordered were way to big/wide. Many others had commented on that so I adjusted my order and tried again. As they were on back order I had to wait weeks for the second pair. They fit in length but have a quirky design that made them not fit again. The tongue of the shoe is sewn all the way up the inside. It's impossible to pull the laces tight because there is excess leather. If the tongue was loose like any kind of shoe that has laces - it would have been fine. Tuck in the tongue and lace your shoes. I could have gotten over this odd design (because I wanted the boots to work out) but the height hit my ankle at an odd place that was really uncomfortable. So sadly I had to send back the second pair too. The color, construction and overall look of these boots is great. I am really disappointed that they didn't work out. I can't wait weeks to get another pair so will be moving on to find something else.

Living where it rains and commuting on foot, I am always looking for good footwear. This boot is stiff and uncushioned, and I just didn't think it could work for me even after it is broken in.
