Some of the stitches appear to be minimally frayed. I am thinking more due to tying off the stitching vs actual defects. Purchased the style with no insulation so they can be worn year round. These boots were bought for my 16 year old daughter. She is picky, but haven't heard even one complaint about her boots. As expected and as always, LLBean exudes quality !!

The boots were a great fit except for the tongue. It being one piece integral to the boot tops made the fit around the ankle a bit too snug. I'm hoping with wear the tongue will relax somewhat. Other than that, they fit and feel wonderful.

My daughter wanted these boots for school (in the woods of Maine). Not bulky, easy to walk around campus in the winter. We ended up returning them and getting the 8" boots since the 6" were a little shorter than expected. The picture makes them seem a bit higher on the ankle. But the 8" is perfect for what she was looking for.

I bought these shoes for my Ireland trip. They are supper comfortable walking 6 hrs. I am a size 8.5 and had to go with size 7.
But let me tell you about taking them off and putting them on. Such a pain in the butt, I have to untie the shoe laces every time. I can't remember how many times I fell trying to just kick them off my feet after a long day.
Just one improvement by making the shoe tongue flexible would get 5 starts. Otherwise great purchase

Love the lower 6" height of these boots. They fall just below your calf and are are perfect for people with wide/thick calfs. I bought these for my daughter in her usual size (8 Regular) so she could wear thick socks in the winter - wrong. The 8 was HUGE even with the thick socks. So I returned for a 7 (which came promptly despite being told they were backorderd for a month) - and while the toe box is still roomy, they don't slip in the heel. She wears them quite often and hasn't complained once about the fit, function, or having to break them in. While they were more expensive than I would like, I told my daughter they were an investment and should last forever. Plus they are quite stylish as well.

For me, the most stressful thing about ordering online is getting the size right because even if returns are free, who wants to do that? I'm not going to rave about the quality and construction (a note included in the box saying they were made by "Rob" was a nice touch, though) because everyone knows Bean boots are high quality and should last for years.
I bought these for my 15-year-old daughter. Now that she's stopped growing, I'm willing to spend a bit more for her clothes, with the expectation that they will carry her into college, which is why I sprung for these boots. She normally wears a 9 or 9.5 and I ordered an 8. Even with thick socks, she has plenty of room.
The other question is deciding which model boot to buy. I didn't go with the Thinsulate because we live in Memphis and it rarely gets below freezing here. She didn't need these for warmth. If I could change anything, I would probably go with the 8" height. These come just above the ankle, which might be uncomfortable when walking because of where they hit when your leg bends. Of course, with breaking in, the leather will soften up, but right now, she is wearing long socks with them to make them more comfortable.

I received my new 6"LLBean boots very quickly, and did not delay in opening the box and trying them on. I laced them after I pulled them on and didn't`t have any trouble at all. Because I usually wear a size 9 or 9-1/2 and have wide feet with a high instep, I ordered the 9W. I might have been OK with an 8W, but I`ll be able to use heavy wool socks and not worry about my foot being cramped at all. I haven`t yet worn them outside, but I did wear them around the house to get the feel of them, and they were great! Now, I`m looking forward to trying them outside in rain or snow. Also, I want to thank Sheila for making me these great, well-made boots; I know they`ll last for a long, long time.

I just got my bean boots in the mail yesterday. I ordered the 6 inch ones and love them. I was a little disappointing that i didn't get a card saying who made them, something i know this company prides themselves in.
I ordered a 7 wide. I'm normally an 8 1/2 or 9. These are still a little bit big but not enough to return. I'll end up wearing thick socks with them when it starts to snow out.

I wear between a 7 and 7.5 and I ordered these in 7 based on other reviews and other bean boots I have. They are a little large, even with thick socks, but still comfortable. They are warm and keep my feet dry. The part around the ankle is stiff and after the first couple days of wearing them, it hurt but it will soften up over time. Also, they were on backorder when I ordered them but they arrived a couple weeks before the predicted date, so that was a plus!

I love that there are so many interesting colors of Bean Boots, I bought these in Field Olive/Brown/Sail Orange! But I'm a size 5 and Bean Boot's smallest size is 6...plus they run a size large, and narrow wasn't an option in this color.
Unfortunately I have to return them because they are too big, but I look forward to the day when Bean Boots are offered in smaller sizes!

I ordered the boots with burgundy leather and navy rubber. When they came they were SO cute! I loved the colors and the quality. Unfortunately, I have very wide feet around the ball of my foot. When I chatted with the customer service rep before ordering, she recommended I order a size 8 with regular width. Plus, the color I wanted didn't come in wide. Turns out they were too narrow for me. I am regularly a size 9 and the rest of the fit was great, just too narrow for my extremely wide feet :( I wore them around my house for about 15 minutes and it was already too painful. I was very bummed because they are soooo cute and great quality. Had to return them and decided to by a cheaper brand in the colors I wanted. I just wish they made the burgundy boots in wide sizes!!

Actually, I mean that lierally! The right boot was sewn quite narrowly on the top such that I received several ankle bruises/cuts which took a bit to get over. I love LL Bean and have bought from them for decades, but this purchase was just a bit of a disappointment....

Of course the boots are of great quality. The sizing is definitely big. I usually wear and 8 and some 7.5's so I ordered a 7 and they are still a little big with my winter socks. I was tempted to return them for a six but worried they will be too small. I don't think they will stretch so I'm going to keep the 7. Hope this helps.

So far I really like these boots. I haven't had too much time to spend in these boots as the weather isn't cooperating. The construction is great.
The fit is pretty big. I wear an 8.5W. I had to get an 8W and there's still room in the toes. I would have given these 5 stars if they had half sizes. They sell pretty good inserts that may make up for the half size. It boot socks.
Shipping was awesome. The return policy is awesome. I hope to wear these for many years.

I'm 5'4" and decided to order the 6" high duck boot in Tan/Brown. I usually wear a size 8 shoe but a friend advised that I may need to order a size down. I find this to be correct. I am pleased with them and the smaller size seems fine for me.

Very comfortable and light weight. I normally wear a 7.5 so I ordered a 7 in the L.L. Bean boots. They are a little loose with light weight socks but fit perfectly with a somewhat thicker sock. I would definitely recommend these boots for anyone!

I normally wear 9-9.5 and per many suggestions ordered size 8. What I didn't realize is that the tongue is sewn up the boot and with my high instep I couldn't get my foot in without really straining. I just returned them to an actual store today and exchanged for size 9. The fit is much better. Otherwise, the boots are great.

I ordered a size up by mistake but I don't feel like waiting for a new pair to be made so they work and get the job done I only wear Camp socks anyway but great job on them

I have hard to fit feet and I don't usually follow fit guides because they don't fit me. BUT the Bean Boot guide is true. I normally wear a size 10 wide if I can find it and I ordered a size 9 wide with little hope that it would actually fit. I got them yesterday and they're perfect. Still a little big with lightweight socks but a perfect fit with heavy weight socks. I'm only giving a 4 because I haven't worn them out yet but I'm sure they will be great.

I bought a size 8 6-inch based on the sizing guide. I'm really a 9-9.5. The boots are very snug. I wore them with a thin running sock on their first outing and walked a couple hours in them. No blisters. Comfy. Think a 9 would have been too big and required thick socks. I also own the Sperry Saltwater boot which fits perfect in a 9.5. I'd say the size 8 Bean is between the Sperry 9-9.5 just to give a basis of size comparison. Bean boot def better constructed. Don't regret this purchase at all. Would have given 5 stars if they came in half sizes.

My shoe size is 6 for women. LLBean Boots is made for wearing heavy socks and its length is always somewhat larger than normal shoes. I'm a big fan of LLBean Boots, but even narrow 6 is larger to my feet. This boots is larger than as usual, I have to add one more insole. But I feel good compare to other LLBean Boots.
My wish, if there is a size 5 LLBean Boots for women. I will be very very happy. There exists many smaller feet women. LLBean should think about it!

Overall I am very pleased. I received these boots a month and a half before the estimated date, so that was exciting. They were easy to get on and fit well. I went down one whole size as the previous recommendations on the reviews advised. I wore thin ankle socks the first time I wore them as I live in Florida and don't own any thick woolen socks. The boots were very comfortable and my ankles did not really rub at all! I was shocked at how comfortable they were straight out of the box. No real "break-in" phase is needed. I think they are cute and perfect for trail walking/hiking/rainy days. Love the color! The only thing is that the tongues of the boots are attached to the boot (which I was aware of and was fine with as it helps to keep your feet dry) however one of the tongues appears to be a bit wider than the other and when I lace the boots there is like a bit of a bubble effect in the tongue where it crinkles weird because it is a bit wider and then pulled tighter by the laces. I wouldn't have thought anything of it except the other boot doesn't do this. It is not aesthetically a bad thing, I just notice it. I will not return since I overall love the boots!

I really liked these boots but there is a seam that hit me right at my ankle. After wearing them for an hour or so, I had a blister on my ankle. I loved the wide width but could not get past the rub on my ankle. All that said, the return was very easy and less expensive than most companies.

The reviews are correct about buying 1 size smaller as they run big to size. One note to mention is that the height is a little high and rubs on my leg causing friction. I have to wrap my legs to off set that problem. I also wish they would sew the tongue of the boot differently so it was not so bulky when you lace them.

I wear a women's C/D width, and generally LLBean women's footwear C width is not wide enough for me -- but these boots come in a true D width. Pay attention to LLBean's size recommendations and size down. I normally wear 9 C/D (or 8 1/2), and in these boots the 8D fit. I did try the 8 1/2 D first, but they were too big. Even with very thick socks.
The 6" style takes care of the problem that the standard 8" style is very hard for me to pull on because my foot won't fit through the leather ankle/leg portion. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. That's why I finally gave up on my old men's size Bean Boots, years ago. Delighted to find this 6" version.
I needed rain boots for long walks with my dogs. These boots have basically no insole or cushioning (thus 4 stars instead of 5), but there is plenty of volume to accomodate adding insoles. I'm having trouble with sore feet, so I have added an arch-support insole AND a second cushion insole. Even with two insoles, the boots still fit comfortably with moderately thin socks. Happy feet.
