Unfortunately, it runs a least a full size large. Even wearing heavy hiking socks, they were at least a 1/2 size too large. It's too bad I live across the country because, if I were closer, I'd go over and find my size in a minute, but as it is, I don't care to engage in a trial and error fitting. Too much work...

I'm writing this review from my couch, because I have to keep my knee elevated. The bottom of these shoes have zero traction. Usually I wouldn't have an issue with that if only they weren't boots for the winter and rain... after opening the box for the second time because the first pair were a 15 labeled as a 13 and way too wide, I put them on, and they were a little lose still. I put on a larger pair of socks, and went to get in my car, and slipped on the stairs leading to my driveway, and have a partially torn Meniscus. Never buy these if you aren't too stable on your feet, older, or are getting a pair for kids. I'm shipping this pie back, and I hope that L.L.Bean works on sizing to be trie to size, and they work on the grip on a shoe made for wet and snowy weather.

This boot is NOT for winter (unless you live in the tropics)! The soles are non-gripping and downright DANGEROUS. The boots act like skis on all icy/packed snow surfaces. Additionally, the inside, uppermost lace eyelet on my left foot dug into my ankle bone (through the boot tongue!) and left a painful open sore after one wearing (about 2 miles). I have been buying LL Bean products for more than 40 years and , unfortunately, am progressively less impressed by attention to quality.

I ordered these to replace my used winter boots. I returned them immediately. They are simply boot shells without any lining. Come on LL Bean. You can do better than this. And selling them for close to $100.00. A total rip off.

I live in Tokyo and just bought these boots this past weekend to prepare for the rainy season. Two days later, it rained. I was looking forward to trying my boots, but incredibly dishearten when on my first time use, the rain soaked through. Just shocking that the quality is so poor. Unfortunately, since it's a rain boot, there is no way of telling they work in the store. The disappointment came 5 minutes into my day. Especially as the brand commands a premium price since it was bought overseas.

I just received my 6'' brown/tan boots. Opening the box was very exciting, but what i saw was a heart breaking. The color of the leather was TAN MUSTARD instead of brown tan, and it looked like a cheap leather and even the smell was more like a chemical treated leather. I owned so many Bean boots previously, but it is a shock to see how the leather quality went down so quickly, i understand the expensive labor in the US, but don't compromise on quality. I love LLbean but please fix this problem and i support made in Maine, but i'm returning them. Sorry!!!

When I received the bean boots in the mail, I was very excited as I'd heard many great things about the shoe from my friends. However, after around 4 months, the leather from both my right and my left shoe had begun to rip from the rubber portion of the shoe and within a year it is no longer wearable in the ohio snow. Very disappointed in my first experience with the bean boot.

This is my second pair of these boots that leaked. I can tolerate that they are very uncomfortable because I only wear them when it's going to rain but for waterproof boots not to be "waterproof" is crazy.

My boyfriend has been happily wearing Bean Boots for about 30 years. Lately though, the quality has really deteriorated. He normally wears a pair for a couple of years before they start to fall apart. His last pair didn't even make it through the summer before the leather separated from the rubber on both boots. He returned those for a replacement pair which he was hesitant to even wear for work, instead he saved them for light, recreational use. He's had this pair for about a month and on both boots the "leather" is actually peeling away where it rubs against his jeans. I'm so glad I have a pair that's a couple of years old, back when they were still well made.

I bought these boots based on a recommendation from my brother. He purchased a pair two years ago and they are phenomenal. The leather has broken in nicely - it's soft, supple, suede is nappy on the inside, and the outside has even developed a nice patina. However, the pair I purchased this winter are not even close to this quality. The leather looks and feels as if it is synthetic. It's thin, has little to zero nap on the inside, and just looks very processed. I'm not sure when the change was made, but LL Bean sure did cut costs on these. I attached a photo of one of my boots after just one winter of casual wear. The heel loop ripped completely out of the shoe at the seam of the leather. Real leather doesn't rip like that. It might stretch/tear over time, but not in a instantaneous fashion like how this happened. I'd also like to point out how uneven and poor the stitching on the boots are. Once again, compared to the 2-year old pair of Bean Boots my brother wears religiously, the stitching quality is drastically different. This isn't that important to me, but cosmetically they look cheap and have frayed strings. Other than the quality and the materials, I love these boots. It's a shame, but I cannot recommend them to anyone until I feel as though LL Bean has addressed their quality and reverted to their old factory/production or something similar.

I'm 58 years old and have worn many many boots in my life and quite a few from Bean, but I must say that these boots are THE most uncomfortable boots I've ever worn. Just couldn't wear them. Cannot recommend. The last two times I've bought boots from Bean I've been let down. A couple years ago I bought a pair of $150 hiking boots that were supposed to be waterproof. The right one lasted two months before it leaked and the left one soon followed. Didn't last a year before they fell apart. I didn't send those back, though I should have. Needless to say these are going back. I've always loved the Bean boots. They used to make a mud boot that was great, but for some reason stopped making them (get those back please). The other products are still great and will continue to order them, just the last two boots I've purchased have left me disappointed. I'm sorry to write this and don't normally do, hopefully I've just been unlucky with the last two boot purchases and maybe I'll try again later. Customer service has always been top notch! But as I said these boots going back.

Our family has been a long tenured LL Bean customers. I ordered the 6 inch Bean Boots using the online guide - they fit well. I wore the boots for one day moving our son from his college dorm after his sophomore year (hardly a strenuous activity), and the inside of the boot came apart. I have returned the boots with shipping paid at my cost for a refund towards my credit card. I will not be re-ordering regardless of any promotions, etc.

I'm am writing this LITERALLY 30min after delivery. I put them on and walked outside... walked into my car... CUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE RUBBER AND TO MY SOCK!!!! I didn't even hit it that hard. THESE OFFER NO PROTECTION OR DURABILITY!!!! Don't waste your money if you need a real boot... meaning one that you can safely walk to your car in... Returning...

Very disappointed in these boots. Had to send the first pair back. Ordered the boots one size smaller than my normal size shoes. Had to go two sizes smaller. They are not very comfortable for hiking in the woods. Soles are soft and thin. Not water proof at all. Walked through some sparse, short wet grass and ended up with wet socks. These are going back. No more Bean boots for me.

Purchased these boots for my son for Christmas 2011, it is now Feb. 17, 2012. Fit was ok. Problem with the boots is that they appear to be cheaply made without the cheap price. The top of the boots rubbed his ankles so badly that he has blisters on both ankles (yes, he is wearing boot socks when he wears them). The tops should have a rolled or padded top to prevent such from happening. He has hiking boots which he also wears and has never had this problem. He has worn these boots numerous times to class (University) and his ankles look pretty bad. He came home this weekend and showed us his feet. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for boots like this or else be prepared to treat blisters.

I had always been able to get size 8 1/2 from you but this time, you said not available, so I had to settle for size 9, too big, now I have to wear extra heavy socks to try and compensate !

Even after following the important sizing info (thanks to all the other reviewers here) AND buying a half size down (to wear with heavy socks), these things were STILL way too big. Wouldn't have been a big deal and I would have simply exchanged these, but they're NOT AVAILABLE (sold out) in the next size down. Come on, LL Bean. These are your iconic boots. You don't have enough on hand? I don't even know if I'll deal with Bean again. Ridiculous sizing, disappointing inventory.

Surprisingly initially uncomfortable near upper ankle. Should have opted for the warmer shearling lined for improved warmth. Keeps feet dry as advertised but extremely cold when wet.

I have always believed that the Bean boot was the standard to beat for a waterproof shoe. So I sent my son on his canoe trip confident that his feet would remain as dry as the proverbial bone. Imagine my chagrin when he told me that the top of the boot was not snug enough to keep his feet from getting soaked every day.

I bought the wide boots in order to get more room in the toes. But the boots turned out to be sloppy wide in the main part of the boot, but narrow in the toes. Buying shoes or boots through mail order, without trying them on, is like buying a pig in a poke.
