In the catalog it looked to be a warm shade of beige. After wrapping and labeling it for return, I did keep it in spite of its ugly no-color. I bought another of the same style in Black, which came very quickly. Meanwhile, we had really perverse weather, so I unwrapped the dirty-color coat and wore it through three days of heavy rain, cold downpours. and vehicular splashes. It sheds wet and dries quickly. So it lives up to its LLBean pedigree. I don't like it but do respect it and know that whatever it survives so will the pretty black version.

I ordered this coat as I have the short hooded jacket made with the 850 down fill and love it as it works in all but the coldest, windiest weather for general and active winter wear in the Chicago area. The coat is a few inches longer than it appeared in both the hard catalog and on-line (maybe the models are taller than my 5'6" with much longer legs), just skimming my knees. A little longer than I wanted but doable. The 2-way zipper takes some trial and error getting closed, perhaps because the coat is lighter weight than the other coats I've had with this type zipper. I hope it will get less frustrating as I wear it more often and get the knack. I just wish it would have been available in the lighter purple as my shorter jacket. The fit is spot on, as coats I've ordered in the past from LL Bean have always been.

I am happy with the coat, but I ordered the plum color, which looked like a pretty purple color on my computer screen. The coat is actually burgundy - almost brown - not at all the cheerful color that I thought it would be

I love that they put a hold on this jacket. It is a good fitting hood. However the hooded version doesn't seem as fluffy as my previous unhooded 850. It is the perfect length in petite for me at 4'11. The zipper does give me trouble on occasion which is annoying but overall good jacket!

I tried several down filled coats in other brands but found the fit, style and quality at LL Bean suited me best. I am 5'3", 112lbs, small fit well. This coat had room for heavy wool sweater, the hood closes nicely around my face and the shoulders are roomy. I got the marine navy which is a dark navy blue. We have had a lot of cold weather in NY and this coat keeps me warm. I wish there was a elastic adjustable cord around the waist to give the coat more style. the coat is very lite and packs into it's own pouch. Wish Bean would have more colors. All the zippers work well.

I just received this. I love the light weight and it should be very warm. Zippered pockets on sides are great and I love the deep pocket inside that will fit a big phone or wallet.

I love the coat. Keeps you warm but feels like a light jacket. My only complaint is the sleeves are a little too short. I bought and extra large and I wear a size 14. The sleeves should be a little longer.

I wanted a nicer looking coat for church and semi dressier occasions. I already own a very warm extra long Bean coat from years ago, which I love.
I ordered a petite medium in black. It fits over a suit jacket. It does look nice. However, I will say it is not super warm. It is okay when the weather is in the 20's or above, but with this recent very cold snap, this coat does not make the cut. Cold breezes still go through a bit. Hence, I rate it only 4.

I have been wanting one of these coats for a few years. When I saw they added a hood this year,I was sold! Im 5' 6" 130 lbs and ordered an X-small. I find Beans clothes run big. The size is okay, not as flattering around the waist as I had hoped. It does however leave enough room for layering, which you will need to do. With a light fleece underneath I was warm enough in 15 degree weather for an hour and a half. It feels like I'm wearing a blanket!
The color selection isn't terribly exciting. I ordered the dark plum however and really love it. It's not as purple as it appears online. More of a maroon maybe? The hood is ample when using but not so big that it's obnoxious when not in use. Pockets are nice and deep and keep hands warm. All in all a nice coat. I also love Beans customer service and guarantees. You've got nothing to lose!

I was so excited to receive this coat in the mail because my sons' down coats from LL Bean are so wonderful. I was pretty disappointed right off with the colour. I ordered the Mariner Blue, and the tone appeared richer for me online, in actuality it is a steely blue, a darkish, neutral, quite underwhelming tone. The lining is even worse, a gray that is well-displayed when the hood is down. Today I wore the coat to work to see whether I could make myself like it. It was drafty so I wore it all day. I found that I actually quite enjoyed wearing it. It is super lightweight and manages to be comfy in warm or cold environments. I ordered the small based on other reviews about the coat running large, and it is perfect for my 5'9" size 8 frame. I was surprised it even fit well with a nice big wool sweater underneath. To make a long story short, this coat is so comfortable and well made that I will likely keep it, though I wish it were the rich blue that the boys' down coats are. Then it would be perfect!

I wore this on a very windy, cold Chicago day & it kept me nice & warm. I would suggest a knit hat under the hood on very windy days - my ears were starting to get cold by the time I was done walking the dog; I didn't have it tightened very far - so that was my own fault. My only complaint about it is the cuffs - they aren't very tight - which is nice, but also allows some cold air up them. They also ride up a bit. A knit cuff would have been nice. But even with that - I really like this coat.

What a great jacket - nice lines, great fit! If you'll remember the 'sweater' down jackets of a few years ago, this is one. It is extremely lightweight. Can be worn in not-very-cold weather. It should be renamed and the description should be reworked.

I am writing this review to answer questions I had when ordering this coat.
Size: I am 5'2", weigh 109 lbs, have a 35 chest, and wear an XS in sweaters and tees and a 2 Petite dress. However, I usually wear a Small in most coats ( eg. Calvin Klein, Northface, Canada Goose), because most XSs are tight across my back and under my arms. I read the reviews on this coat and the overwhelming consensus was that the coat ran very big so I order an XS. The XS was roomy enough for layers, fitted enough to be very flattering, and only slightly tight across the back and under the arms. The XS was also long for a 3/4 coat, hitting me about 2" above the knees, but I expected this because these coats are fitted for taller people. I decided to order a second coat in a S Petite to see if that would be a better fit. The S Petite was a better length but it was huge and very unflattering. I would have tried an XS Petite but I was concerned that it would be even tighter under the arms and too short in the sleeves. In the end, I kept the XS, and I have been very happy.
Warmth: I bought this coat because it is light and packable and not necessarily for freezing weather (I have much warmer coats). Based on wearing it on a gusty 35 degree day ( NYC hasn't been colder yet), this coat, by itself, will not keep you warm in windy, very cold temperatures. However, it is a great insulator. Worn with the appropriate layers, you will be very warm and may even get hot.
Color: I got the coat in Marine Blue which looks fabulous with jeans. It is more the color in the catalogue and less the color on the website.
I love this coat because it is so uncumbersome. I haven't worn another coat since receiving it!

So disappointed. After years of admiring this jacket but wishing it had a hood, I was so pleased to see this years version had a hood. After debating over which colour to order I finally ordered it in blue (medium) and couldn't wait for it to arrive. Sadly, the sizing is way off and this jacket is huge on me, feels like a large to extra large coat! I'm 5'5" 130 lbs with broad shoulders and usually wear a medium or occasionally a large depending on the brand. I feel like I'm swimming in this coat. It is too bad as other than the size it is just what I was looking for. The length is great, it's nice and light, has loads of nice details ie pockets and two way zipper. Unfortunately, I'll be returning it and I'm not sure if I can trust LL Bean's sizing to order a size down.

The fill in the coat is not even close to the amount of fill in the jacket length I bought a couple years ago. This coat is not warm. Quality seems to be going down in materials used for price paid. This is the 3rd coat (different styles & sizes)I have ordered this year and all had design, quality or sizing issues. I ended up buying from a different vendor. I have been an Llbean customer for years.

I got this coat a year ago for Christmas and I love the color and it's warm and comfy but the zipper already broke right off in half and I can't use it anymore!

Useful for your designers and phone-order takers, the coat runs small. My Large was too small for my 5'4", 120# body, so I returned it. For years I've wanted a puffer coat, so it was sad to have to return it! Besides it was not warm and cozy like I was looking forward to. A disappointment to me all around.

I purchased a Petite Small and found it too long for a 3/4 length. Almost came to my knees. It also flared out too much on the bottom. I was greatly disappointed as I always wear the Jacket length, love it and wanted something just a little longer, but not this long.

I've had 2 of this model of LL Bean's 3/4 coat. In both cases, the zipper failed. The zipper would randomly unzip from the bottom or even worse, the 2 parts of the zipper would not fit together correctly when I tried to re-zip the coat. It's a lovely coat -- warm, attractive, flattering fit -- but a malfunctioning zipper kills its appeal. I thought that the 1st zipper fail was.a fluke. I was very disappointed when it repeated with the 2nd coat. Beginning last winter, I left the coat zipped up and climbed into it! Crazy!

The coat is bulky. Not what I expected... four or five years ago I bought a wonderful LL. Bean light down coat that packs into a small pouch. I have worn that coat in all kinds of Wshington DC weather throghout the years. It is the most versatile coat I have ever owned. I had hoped from the advertising that tis would be similar.. Not. I believe your description could be more specific.

I have had 2 of this particular coat. First one's zipper stopped working within weeks. Second coat's zipper stopped working after 2+ years. I'm a slim woman and can't figure out why this LL Bean coat simply won't work for me. I've had a lot of zipped coats and jackets over the years and never a problem. So disappointing; I loved the coat!

I am a person who is often cold in the winter and have been searching for the warmest coat. My husband bought me this coat. Must say I was disappointed, I had to go back to my old coat which is much warmer. This coat is not warm at all. For the cost, it is not worth it. The quality is ok but not superior, not a high quality zipper or cuffs. I agree that the old LLbean products are better and warmer.

Runs small around the waist and has short arms. I tried to order a size larger when my regular size didnt fit, and it was so large I was swimming in it. I had to return due to sizing
