Wear it almost every day. I do wish it was a little warmer

Very comfortable, light as a feather but so warm! Don't even need to wear a sweater underneath. Love the length because it keeps my legs warm and with high boots, it's perfect! Only negative is the material is so soft. Always terrified to tear it. It washes very well also. I spilled food on it and threw it into wash and tumbled dry. Perfect!

I have the 860 in 3 other pieces - a vest, the sweater and a heavier, but short puffer jacket with hood. I love how lightweight all of them are. I ordered the "Marine" blue color thinking it looked more Navy but it's definitely more blue than navy. Fit is slightly bigger than the other 860s I have but nothing way off. Nice transition piece when you don't want to get out your ultra heavy puffers yet. The description says it fits in a pocket built in which I am sure it does but I couldn't figure out how to get it in there and there aren't any instructions online or that come on the coat tags. I need a quick tutorial!

This is a very nice ultralight down winter coat. It felt simultaneously lightweight but also very warm, and has a sporty style. It would be perfect for a mild DC winter. The fit did look a bit boxy and roomy on me, compared to the photos in the catalogue and online, so I did not keep. If LL Bean made a slim fit or fitted option, or even an xxs, and if the coat was just slightly shorter, like 1-2 inches, I probably would have kept it.

This coat is comfortable, looks nice, and is warm-ish. I live in the Northeast, and while it is a warm coat, it feels a bit drafty in the winter without wearing a sweatshirt or intermediary jacket beneath. I like how it looks and how it feels, but definitely is not super warm unless you layer.

This is my favorite coat! I bought it in two lengths, medium and long. I have recommended it to my Mom and friend and they live it too!

This coat is wonderful. Love the petite line from LL Bean. It is so light and has a great silhouette. I love that they added a hood. It is my go-to winter coat. It isn't my warmest coat so I wouldn't recommend wearing it out on a cold winter day you know you are going to spend extended periods of time outside. I wish it came in more colors!

This is a great coat! Very functional and warm. Sometimes I have difficulties with L.L. Bean zippers, but this coat I have no issues at all. The only reason I took away one star is that it does shed some feathers. But not that big of a deal at all!

I normally wear a medium but bought a large thinking I'd need to layer another jacket under it. But this coat is exceptionally warm and I have not had to wear another jacket under it even in Oregon's 32-degree weather. It"s now roomy, but still very toasty. The only reasons I would not rate it five stars is that I've had a few down feathers push out, and I don't know if that's normal with a down item or not. Most importantly, and this is something L.L. Bean can address, is the color description. It reads "Dark Plum." This is what I expected. Plum is purple, my favorite color, and a dark plum should have been something along the lines of aubergine (eggplant). This coat is cranberry or merlot colored, not plum. It could even be called maroon. I should have returned it because it doesn't match any of my scarves or hats, but I love its water resistance and warmth, and I even got it easily stuffed into its own pocket, which is very convenient for travel. Please change the color description though so folks get what they expect.

Lovely coat, but not as practical for me - I need a waterproof outer covering as I will wear this coat from November to April. Found another at LLB that met my needs better.

I had wanted something a bit longer than a jacket, so I settled on this coat. I love the plum color and the coat is light and also almost a packaway . . . at least I was able to stuff it almost completely into its own pocket, even though it wasn't designed to do that. It was not quite as warm as I'd expected, but I like the fact that it sheds water since I spent most of my holidays in the rain. On the other hand, I don't like that it also sheds feathers. As far as fit, I was happy that the plus sizes were designed to fit average-height women (not like a competitor's coat that had the slightly fitted waist down around my hips!).

I didn't give it an "excellent" review because of the zipper and a few feathers. I have problems w the zipper so to alleviate the problem I step into the already zipped coat and out of the already zipped coat. And I still see a few feathers from the down. But I wore the coat throughout London and never used an umbrella. The coat also dries very quickly.

I called customer service to ask about size since I usually get petite. She advised lrg. It fits a little big even with a hoodie underneath it. Problem is-it's not that warm. Was expecting it to be spectacular after reading the reviews and paying $200+ Would be helpful if there was a pull in the bottom so cold air doesn't circulate from bottom of coat. Not that crazy about it. Especially since it was so overpriced!

I had bought this same coat without the hood five years ago and have loved it. I was ready for a new one so since there was not the option of no hood, I ordered with the hood, same size. The quality was fine but the sizing is off. It fit in the chest and arm length but it was huge around the hips. I then ordered the x-small, which fit perfectly through the hips but was just a little too small in the bust to be comfortable. I returned both. I am so disappointed. I really wanted the coat. Also, the "mariner blue" looked like navy when I received it.

This long coat is new and nice; I like the shape, plum color, deep pockets, nicely fitted hood and it is lightweight. I wore it in London recently and it stayed dry and warm. Two concerns one is that I find a coat feather every so often and I wonder if that should be a concern? Also the long zipper is troublesome; takes a little time to zip it up. (Maybe it's me.)

Quite a few years ago, when this Austinite moved to Boston, I researched down jackets and fell in love with the L.L. Bean parka. It has the same quality down fill and life-time guarantee as other more expensive brands so I went with it. As that was a quite a while ago (13yrs?!?), it was time to get a new one. I would love for y'all to bring back some of the features from the previous model (from 2006?): - the adjustable inner elastic drawstring at the waist for a customizable and more flattering fit - the soft fabric lining at the wrist cuffs, so keep out the cold and keep in the warmth - the soft fabric lining at the neckline, which is more cozy and warmer along the neck - the inside left breast pocket with a zipper, to make "light" (e.g., wallet and phone only) super easy access while outdoors and traveling (the current inside pockets require me to unzip the jacket much, much more and expose myself to cold weather) The new model has a new large pocket without a zipper. Could y'all have zippers for all pockets? Ok, so things I love about the new model (and the old model!): - 850 is fantastically warm and super lightweight, meaning it is a fun "puffy" coat that is still lightweight and relatively thin for such a warm coat. - its uber warm. I used it for walking my dog in 7F (without the windchill in Boston with a t-shirt and sweater underneath) and, because its magical down, I can wear it indoors at 68F and feel cozy. - the outside pockets are super deep, so my phone, keys, wallet, etc can fall to the bottom and be secure in the pocket and there is still room for my hands - the soft lining in the pockets means that my hands are warmer in my (down!) pockets than in gloves - the zippers on the pockets - the two outside and one inside - adds functionality - the tags on the zippers which make it easier to use, especially with gloves - the double full-length zipper allows me to zip down around my neck and also zip up the bottom if I want - the hood has an adjustable elastic, so I can adjust it smaller to stay on my head in the wind - the cut is flattering (comes in a bit at the waist) - the dark gray / brown on the inside is a nice touch - to go along with the black jacket - the new model has a storage pocket - for stuffing the jacket into its own pocket for easier packing!

The jacket is so light weight I thought it wouldn't be warm enough, but it is toasty and comfortable even for driving. The only complaint I have is with the zipper. It should be heavier to hold up under winter use.

This is a beautiful coat; but it did not fit me right. I have short arms and a short waist. It's hard to find coats to fit me. I had to return the coat.

I love the coat and the color (olive green/taupe). When I read the reviews they seemed split on whether the coat was warm enough. Here in the mountains, even in Denver the coat is great with layers or in high 30's 40's. But when it gets colder, I which it was warmer. Also for colder weather I wish it was longer. I decided to keep it, because the color, the fit, the hood, the ease is great, but unfortunately, I have to look for something else for colder temps.

I debated whether even to get this coat because of the price. Overall I like it but wish it had cuffs. Also wish the hood had a bit more room and removable. When zippering it all way up, it's very tight around the neck. It's warm and comfortable. I tried a 2x last year but was way too big. I'm able to wear a layer underneath and it's fitted but not tight. Also pleased the logo isn't stamped on the front. That has stopped me from other purchases. I don't like to feel I'm an advertisement for LLBean. Wore it out in the snowstorm today and it kept me warm and dry.

I purchased the 850 several years ago and the style was a bit different but I loved it. It's a great coat for cold days and is great to drive in.I have to purchase another as I lost mine and cannot find it anywhere. On the newer style I do miss the LL Bean logo that use to be on the older 850's. Also, I'm a color worshipper and I wish the longer styles were available in the same colors as the shorter jackets.

I'm 5'5, 120 pounds and I bought the medium -- thinking I needed something slightly bigger to layer clothing underneath. A medium is WAY TOO BIG. I even put a thicker hoodie underneath it and was still swimming in the coat. I'm sending it back for an extra small and we'll see how that goes. (I'm picking an extra small because if you look at sizing, a small is only one inch smaller than the medium.) Otherwise, the color is a beautiful blue and the length was perfect.

This is a good coat, but it could be a great coat if they strategically incorporated some fleece on the inside. Granted this would likely kill the ability to make it a coat that is packable in its own pouch, but my niece (4yo) has the LL Bean kid's down coat with fleece, now that's my dream come true on a cold winter's day, but for now, I'll settle for the next best thing. This fits my petite dimensions great BTW and I usually wear a size 10 bottom a LL Bean Med top. Lrg in other brands.

Basic coat, good lines, flattering. Length is perfect for walking and driving. Light weight and packable. Packed in my tote easily on a recent trip from cold climate to warm then back to cold - super!
