Customer Reviews L.L.Bean Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Coat

Unfortunately I returned this coat as there was a small pin hole just below the top stitching and the feathers were coming out. It was right in the front of the coat so I'm not sure why someone didn't see the hole before shipping it to me. The coat also seemed a bit big through the middle.

It's generally a nice coat. Soft, nice color. It's a little thin, so I don't really wear it below freezing unless I wear 3 layers under it. It may just be a defect in mine, but one of the pockets is significantly shallower than the other. Didn't exchange it bc I don't want it going in the trash over such a small defect.

This is my second time buying this coat. My first one finally got a bit dirty after 5 or so yeas of Chicago winter. It's the warmest, most lightweight coat I can find. So that's what makes this a winner The flaw? At this price point the hood should be detachable. I don't like hooded coats and this is the only reason I don't give this 5 stars (the first version of this coat didn't have a hood so perfection in my opinion)

The coat was great. The beige lining with the lovely blue coat just didn't appeal. I returned it. Maybe lining the same color as coat would be better.

Great coat - 1x only slightly larger than the xl and the arms and shoulders are a bit tight cannot wear anything thicker than a light knit under it

Light but very warm, soft and comfortable. Wish the hood was detachable.

I love the feel of this coat. It's very light weight and easy to pack away. This coat is water resistant and the water rolls completely off it . The only problem I seem to have is that the inside stuffing which is white seems to be coming out of the coat . I noticed some coming out even before I wore it and this was on the back side of the hood. After wearing it out for 2 occasions I see this white stuff coming out on another area of the coat. I don't know if this is normal or not but when I return from my international vacation I will be reaching out to LLBean . Over all this was a great purchase for the rain and cold weather we experience in Paris .

plan to return this coat to the local store because there is a pin hole in the coat and the down feathers are coming out. Otherwise I really like the fit and warmth -

The coat is nice-it's warm, however, I do feel like I could have spent less elsewhere for a coat that would have been as warm. I had a heck of a time getting gift cards to work online. I was then told it could take days to get it straightened out. I didn't feel the customer service of LL bean was that great.

I love the coat but the zipper is hard to zip. I've had double zippers before and never had so much trouble zipping it up.

Light and comfortable and warm. The bottom flares out a little too much for my style.

So far I have been happy with this coat. I have not experienced extreme weather yet. The coldest the temp has been has been about 35'. The color is perfect!!!

I love wearing hats, beanies, etc and most of the time never use the hood. I love everything about this jacket except the hood that would constantly getting in the way with long hair and can't be removed. That's the only reason I did not buy this or any other jacket from LL Bean this year. The only one without a hood is short. I would love a longer jacket, but without a hood.

Feels very warm, and arms are a good length. I don't really like how it splays out at the bottom around the legs instead of being straight cut. I also think it could have a little bit more of a waist.. But it is good quality and warm so I'm going to keep it.

It's definitely light weight but not as warm as I was hoping. I live in Maryland, so it's not terrible cold, but we did have some days of 25 degrees F with wind and I felt that I could use another layer underneath. Otherwise, it has been great for Maryland winters. I love the hood and the fact that it's light weight and compactible. it's super cute and I get compliments.

It fits a little big. I'm 5'8" , 140 and there's plenty of room for extra sweaters with a size medium.

I read the reviews before ordering and I did order a size up, which was a great fit for putting layers underneath. Only one small feather has emerged. The only downsides were the price and the lack of zippered interior pockets.

Beautifully made and accurately sized--just not quite as well-insulated as I had hoped, so it will be worn on 'warmer' winter days.

Nice coat but so easy to get a Snag. Little pin holes with feathers coming out.

This coat is just the right length. Good for walking on days when the temperature is in the 40s or 50s. Fits snuggly with enough room for movement.

This coat is very light but very warm and toasty. The outer shell is so thin that it remains to be seen if it will rip; none so far, and I noticed the fabric is rip-stop fabric. I did have one feather escape, per other comments. I pulled it out gently and massaged the fabric where it came out and it left no damage. So far so good! The coat remains comfy and warm!

Surprisingly toasty for a coat that feels so lightweight. Love the split zipper. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the cuffs could be more snug.

This coat is a great length for snowy days. It is not as warm as I hoped when it is super cold out (i.e. 0-5F), but with a hoodie or thick sweater underneath, it is perfect. I like that it is not a bulky coat.

This is a nice-looking jacket - fitted and a beautiful gray. I have been slightly disappointed in the level of warmth. I was cold when it was in the upper 20s and it's advertised to be much warmer than that. I also wish the cuffs were more fashioned and not just elastic. I think the sleeves would be warmer.

This coat is nice and lightweight and keeps me warm. I had to order a size larger than I usually wear and the sleeves are cut small. It's a little too snug in the arms when I'm wearing a sweater or layers, but I do like it and I like the length.
