I was visiting family for Christmas and decided on a whim to buy a warm long coat and I have not regretted this choice! I spent an hour in LL Bean trying on different jackets. This wasn't the warmest but it was a great mix of warm and style. I live in North Dakota where temperatures are often below zero and wind chills are around -30. I can wear this out and about and be plenty warm. On the coldest days, I throw a sweatshirt on underneath but I rarely need the extra warmth. The stowaway feature is great as well. I flew with the jacket and was able to tuck it away into the stow pocket and then into the water bottle pocket on my backpack for the flights and pulled it out to deboard the plane (small airport with outdoor deplane in -30) and I was warm as could be!

I bought this coat with great trepidation not knowing how the ultra light down would be. No Worries! It's a great coat! Fits perfectly, warm and snuggly while I'm wearing it and the bottom of the zipper going up is fantastic! I can drive with it unzipped to my thighs get out of the car and zip it down. I love this coat!

Don't let it fool you. It's super light, but REALLY warm. Helps to layer and make sure the coat is a little on the snug side to keep all the warmth in. Much warmer than it looks. Not as good as my parka, when it's really windy. Have worn it in light drizzle, but it's not best for rain. But it's light & warm which is exactly what I was looking for. LOVE that it comes in petite, as only a couple of brands do. And customer service was fantastic! It went on sale the day it was delivered (significant sale) and they quickly refunded me the difference. First thing I've ever bought at LL Bean and won't be the last!

I thought this coat might be overkill for coastal NC, but with this "wicked" winter it is a perfect coat. Love the hood that I can pop on if rain starts during my daily walk and the non bulky fit. I've never bought a coat without physically trying it on. Knowing Bean's return policy made me confident, but just try to get me to return this-no way! Just read the 850 ultralight is the jacket of the Olympians. Great endorsement

I absolutely love this coat. It is exactly what I was looking for. Down filled, not bulky, perfect length, very warm and stylish. I have it in the blue color and it is so pretty. I live in southern CT and we've been getting some very cold days and I feel warm in it on those days wearing a medium weight shirt underneath. I wear a different winter jacket for the rain and that's fine with me.

I love this coat and am glad I finally purchased it. It is exactly what I wanted. Light but warm and long enough to keep my butt and thighs warm. It flairs a little too much at the bottom for my taste but everything else is great. It has pockets inside that are big enough that I can go out without a purse. I'm 5'5" and weigh 132 lbs. I ordered a size large because I wanted to make sure I could wear it over large hooded sweatshirts. I may have been able to get away with a medium but I like my coats loose.

I pretty much spend the whole winter being cold. I splurged and got myself this coat as "gift". I love it! The color (blue) is perfect. It's hard to find a color that isn't bright but isn't black or gray. The fit is perfect. And true to size. The cut is great too. And I'm WARM!!! The only thing I don't like is the cuffs. They are too narrow. I think a wider cuff would be nicer. But it's just a cuff. :)

This is the warmest and most comfortable coat I have had in a long time! I love how light it is and the length is perfect! The hood adds a lot of warmth as well. I had previously ordered my regular size and it fit perfectly with a light layer underneath. I ended up returning the coat for one size larger so I could easily wear a thick sweater or fleece underneath. There is plenty of extra room now, but I don't mind. I am always toasty when I walk my dog, and when I have recess duty outside with my elementary students! I don't mind the cold weather now that I have his wicked awesome coat!

I bought this coat not expecting to need it right away. However, I was disappointed to find that the expected delivery date was one day after a forecast very cold spell. To my surprise and delight the coat arrived one day BEFORE the cold spell. I tried it on right away as it seemed too light and thin to be warm. I was very happy to find that the coat was indeed very warm and not as bulky as previous coats that I have had. I have worn it more times than I would like because the temperatures have been very cold. I have been warm every time I have worn it and decided that this was an excellent purchase

I have gotten so many compliments since purchasing this coat, and no one can believe it's LL Bean! Very flattering and easily packable in a carry on suitcase. I am usually a large in outerwear and the large was perfect, with room for heavier layers underneath like my winter sweaters. I purchased this coat to combat Michigan's frigid winter this year. Overall I'm pleased with the warmth, but I do not feel EXTRA cozy (however, this is mostly just walking to and from my car). I would still highly recommend it as it does the job and is really quite flattering.

I was very surprised how light weight, Very warm, and stylish this coat is!!! I am sorry I didn't purchase it before the winter had started.

I purchased this coat in December to have something a little dressier than my down jacket. It has been wonderful to wear for travel as well as around town. It is very light weight, and I can put a few things in the big interior pocket and skip carrying a purse. I have had no problem with the hood, and the coat fits beautifully.

This coat is extremely light weight but warm in weather in the 20's but down to zero layering is a must for me. I bought a size medium and I have lots of room for addition layers underneath. I'm 5'2" and it falls just above my knees. I love the 2-way zipper. It seems to be very well made. I may buy the longer style for dog walking in very cold weather! I bought petite and the sleeves are perfect. Nice fit all around.

I absolutely love this coat. It is warm, a great fit, the length is just right and so soft. I like the "tailored" fit and it is attractive for casual or dressy outings.

I really don't like the cold, so I wanted something that would keep me warm, look stylish, and of course, be thin so I would not be uncomfortable while driving. It was like this was made for me! =) I absolutely love this jacket. I was a little hesitant to get the petite at first, seeing as my legs are petite not my arms, but the fit was perfect. I love the double zipper and the blue color is so pretty. I did not have any issues with wind coming up from the bottom of the coat. The hand pockets are so warm and soft. On super windy days, the hood does fly off. I wish that I could secure the hood so it would stay put.

Excellent coat - very lightweight and comfortable - Great zipper and hood and pockets! This was one of our coldest winters ever in Georgia, and this coat was great, even in 18 degrees. My favorite winter coat ever!

Love this coat! Feels great and warm and looks good. Only thing I didn't think of is how many other people have black coats too -- so it is hard to find when I hang it up. Also has weird antenna like things for the hood...but otherwise love it. Love, love the warm, lined pockets!

I have been looking for a replacement for my 6 year old Northface down coat and I finally found it. This coat is comfortable - just long enough and warm (I have not tested it in extreme cold yet). Sleeve length is perfect and the two way zipper is great.

Bought this coat for travel to Europe because it is so light weight. It is very well made, the zipper is very easy to use and it seems to be very warm. I have not used it yet but next time we get temperatures below 40's I will try it. Got a small petite and it fits very well with long sleeve shirt, and fleece vest. I am 5'2, 128 and 36D. The only thing I would have like would be a small zippered inside pocket. But overall it is a really nice coat, the blue is a beautiful color the fit is good and I can not wait to wear it

I absolutely love this coat! So lightweight. Works great in the real cold with a sweater (around 0 with some wind) as well as when it's not too cold (around 45). Best coat ever! Also doesn't lose feathers much. And liquid just runs off (spilled an entire coffee on it directly and just ran right off with no stain). Bought the long one and want to get mid length. Yay LL Bean!

I bought the Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Coat and it is the best purchase I made in years. The weather here has gotten below zero and this coat still is warm

I have this coat and an 850 down jacket and I love them both. They are very light weight but amazingly warm with plenty of pockets. They block the wind well too.

This has become my favorite winter coat. It is very light weight but also extremely warm and cozy to wear and has great pockets. I love the slightly longer mid thigh length which keeps more of my body warm. The ash color is beautiful. I'm 5'4" 147 lbs and the medium is a perfect fit. Very glad I purchased this last month.

I have owned three LL down coats/jackets and this is the BEST! The Ultrawarm is a wonderful jacket, but it is quite bulky with a big 'fur' trimmed hood. It's great for walking on cold, windy days but is a lot of coat otherwise. Another one I bought 4 years ago has no neck protection, but otherwise very warm. This Ultralight 850 serves many functions: warmth, flattering shape, compactability, adjustable hood/collar, two way zipper, elasticized wrists, zippered pockets! Sizing seems true...my usual PM is fine, even with a layer or two. I don't need many coats...just one versatile one like this one!
