I live in Houston, TX. This coat is perfect fornhere keeps me very warm for typical winters here. My job means travel, this coat is perfect for that. It weighs nothing and packs easily, squishing down to. I thing in a suitcase, or I can stuff it into its stuff pocket and shrink it for easy carry. It fits me well with ease of movement in my arms. The hood holds itself up nicely. On windy cold days, I add a knit cap for ear protection. Plum color goes with everything.

I wore this coat on a trip to France last week. It was just the right weight to keep me warm and dry during cool, sometimes rainy weather. I originally thought it would be too long since I am so short, but it was just the right coverage for the cool, breezy weather. I just wore a lightweight sweater under it. I got the Navy since I didn't want another black coat.

I have the coat in a petite medium. Very comfortable. If you want to wear a layer under it would need to order up a size. I can wear a fleece under but it is a little snug. It is warm but in extremely cold would need a fleece under. Very happy with the purchase.

I wanted a mid-length winter coat and had looked at many. The Ultralight 850 down coat caught my eye immediately because it was lightweight, not bulky and very warm; perfect for winters in Maine! It is stylish, fits perfectly and is made well. I purchased this coat in ash heather and love it. Definitely a great coat!

I have worn this coat 2 or 3 times now since the weather has gotten cooler. It is warm and comfortable for cool days in the 40's. I plan to take this coat on vacation this winter since it will not take up much room in my suitcase.

In early November, I'm looking forward to a cold Illinois winter. Then I can see how warm it really keeps me! But I wore it yesterday on a very blustery, half rainy walk, and was very comfortable.

I just got this coat in Mariner Blue - gorgeous color. I am 5'8" and 145 pounds. I have long legs and arms. I was really worried the sleeves would not be long enough. They are! They rest at the very bottom part of my wrist just above the thumb. Usually sleeves are too short!. The length is perfect! This coat stops just about 5 inches above my knee. Perfect coat! Now in Colorado the wind and weather can get to 0 so that will be the test. Rainy off and on today - when I have been outside, light rain - the coat shell is dry! The temp is about 40 degrees. I normally wear an 8 - 10 in all clothes and this medium coat is large enough for me to wear a bulky sweater and a long sleeve tee shirt under it. Very warm even in the cold wind! The fit is perfect - zipped all the way up. Hood is perfect - very cold wind a short while ago walking the dogs. I put the hood up and warm! I highly recommend this coat!

I adore this coat. I bought it several years back, when it wasn't available in Women's sizes and didn't have a hood, hoping it might fit me. It didn't, but I kept it in my closet to inspire myself to slim down. This spring and summer I was quite sick and lost a lot of weight, so I finally get to wear this fabulous coat, the best winter coat ever. It's a pleasure to put on and to wear. I've always worn wool or other heavier coats, and this one is a revelation. I've worn it for about 3 weeks now, and took it on a trip in its pouch. I love the Dark Plum colour, the strong double zipper, the knee length, and I look forward to testing it in the rain tomorrow. I only wish it had a hood! It's worth every penny. Thank you LL Bean!

Was looking for a replacement for my old winter jacket that has seen better days. This jacket was perfect. I had ordered both a missy and petite small and kept the petite. I have trouble finding coats that fit my larger chest (32DD) and this works great plus I have room for a sweater or mid layer underneath. Super lightweight but totally warm. Love that it stows away into its own pocket, so will be great for traveling. Love the elastic wristbands to keep out cold and the hood will be handy. Great product at a great price!

This coat is great to wear. I know I will need to add some lightweight layers on colder days - that is easy to do. I have one of the LLBean regular down coats also - this coat less bulky so easier when driving. Having the two-way zipper and hood are bonuses. The length great for walking - keeping my upper legs warm on the cooler days compared to a jacket.

The coat is wonderful so far. I used it recently in New York when it was coldish and windy. It was comfortably warm and stuffed into my suitcase easily when I didn't need it.

Purchased for an October trip to Iceland and coat performed as advertised.
Packed great in my carry on bag, warm, windproof, lightweight, and nice looking.
And it will be great for the rest of the cool season back home.

I bought this coat with hesitation as I'd read mixed reviews. I live in frigid MI and doubted how, especially after taking the coat out of the packaging, something so extremely thin with what seemed hardly any fill, could possibly keep me warm at all!?? Well, people, it does! I wore it all winter long! It kept me toasty, and i get cold VERY easily. I use this for daily walks and mostly running around town. Perfect for what i bought it for and stands up to tough MI winters, not to mention it's beautiful!

I disagree with the reviewers who say that this coat is not warm enough for zero degrees at a standstill. You have to wear layers underneath -this is the assumption that is made by the manufacturer. I think there are plenty of people out there in tee shirts and this coat who are critical of the warmth ratings because they expect that this coat should be warm enough for the arctic..I also feel that a bit of feather peaking out happens to all down coats..If you're going to go tearing through the bushes don't expect to make it to the board meeting without feathers poking out.Better buy two:(one for work) and (one for whatever else you do outside).
I'd like to see some new colors-love my blue one though.

What a find! Packs up small, is virtually weightless, water repellant, and snuggly. The hood is spacious (and adjustable) and warm. I just took it on a trip to Iceland (the small size helped me to pack everything for my trip into 1 small piece of carryon luggage) where temps were rainy and in the 40s-50s (degrees F). With proper layering this Coat could easily keep you warm in 30 degree temps. I'm 5'7" 135 lbs and the medium was plenty roomy while wearing 2 shirts beneath it. If you prefer a trim fit, the small would work fine too. The coat washes beautifully. I air dried and put into the dryer with tennis balls to fluff it up and finish drying it.

I purchased this coat to wear on a trip to London. Who knew we would encounter the Beast from the East snowstorm while there! The 850 kept me warm and dry while we tromped around the snow covered streets and sidewalks of London. (They don't shovel there!) I am so glad I bought this coat!

I researched the different L.L. Bean jacket options before deciding on this coat. I have not been disappointed. It is a light jacket in that it doesn't weigh much, but it does a great job keeping you warm in windy cold temps and it is water repellent. The fit was true to the stated size. I love my coat!

This is my favorite of favorite coats. The fit is perfect in every way. The length provides the weather protection I need. Additionally, it is ideal for casual or dressy occasions. Warm, light-weight, the color is a beautiful navy.

I had ordered this coat in a PS but returned and ordered in a PM. i am 5'1" but have too much of a tummy for the small...medium is perfect.
i was looking for a coat that could dress up and down..and this just fits my needs. I noticed that another customer had noted that it would be nice if the exposed linings would also be in black instead of gray.... i agree but it is not a problem. the only other comment i would make, is it would be nice to have a snap or velcro to hold it together when you do not need to be zipped all the way up....
This is a welcome addition to my closet of LLB garments...

I was looking for a coat to get through our very snowy winters in Syracuse. I wanted something lightweight and long but flexible enough to get through lots of shoveling. This coat is perfect! It keeps me warm outside while I work, but isn't too warm for long winter drives (I would always have to take my previous coats off for long drives because I'd get too hot). It's a fantastic workhorse of a coat that still looks stylish. My only complaint is that sometimes the down will poke through the outer layer of the coat and I will shed some feathers.

I'm 5'10" and have long arms and legs. I often have trouble finding coats or jackets with sleeves long enough. This coat is perfect -- the sleeves are just right, and I love the slight elastic cuff which keeps the cold air out. The overall coat length is also good. It hits slightly past mid-thigh, which means extra coverage, and it's not constricting in the car with the two-way zipper. The coat has many nice touches like the internal pocket, an adjustable hood, and a stow pouch. Most importantly, it keeps me toasty warm. I can't forget the best extra -- the lines on this coat are nicely flattering! I'm so happy with my purchase!!

This coat has made my transition to the chilly Northwest Coast so easy! I wear it on birdwatching trips and to walk the dog for half an hour each morning, rain, snow, or sun, and this coat has come through with shining colors! In the bitter wind and cold, it keeps me perfectly warm, and I mean perfectly - I don't get super-heated, just stay comfy. It it starts to rain, I don't worry, cuz it protects me from the rain, too, and I just hang it up on the mud room door when I get back, and it dries beautifully. It protects me against the wind, too. But it's so lightweight, I can hardly feel it, truthfully. When I wear it on a cold and windy rainy morning with my rain pants (also from LL Bean), I'm warm from head to toe. Only my chin gets chilly. When it's not that cold, it's comfortable, too. Love the inside pocket, the 2-way zipper, plus the color and fit couldn't be better. I hate to be so fawning about this coat, but I really am super happy with it because it has made my life here much better in such a practical way. And my husband bought the men's jacket, when he saw how great my coat was, and loves that! Really, it's been perfect from 25' to 50'.

This coat is all it promises to be and is beyond anything I had almost purchased from the mall stores. I wish I had made the switch to it before. It's surprisingly lightweight but with superior warmth.
