As I have read with another review, I too ordered the "Vibrant Red" color in this Ultralight 850 Down Jacket. While I also like the fit and color, unfortunately the jacket lacks a lining between the down filling and the outer shell. As a result, the down is visible through the shell, which appears as many small, dark spots on the shell. Although the shell is, in fact, clean, the jacket has the appearance of being dirtied with spots throughout. I also do not understand how this colored jacket passed L.L. Bean's quality control.

Perhaps this is not a problem with a darker colored shell, but it certainly is a problem with this lighter color. I do not understand how this colored jacket passed L.L. Bean's quality control.

Looks much more valuable online than in person. So light (I guess it's in the name "ULTRA LIGHT" but I was fooled. Doesn't feel like it was worth $229.00 to me. I would've paid $50.00 for this and not a dollar more.

The jacket I purchased on line was delivered with an obvious hole in the fabric
I returned it for a refund
I did purchase an 850 jacket on line after that incident for my wife and she loves it

The color was very different from this picture. This would be a silvery green. The real thing was army green. Not what I wanted.

I bought this for my son and after two seasons of wear, it has a big hole in it where my son got the zipper stuck. Very disappointed as I thought this would last longer.

I bought this jacket to replace a warm winter jacket I bought several years ago from L.L.Bean which has been wonderful. When I unpacked this one and found this thin, skimpy, cheaply made thing, I was sure they had made a mistake and sent me the removable liner from a much better jacket. But no, this was actually what I had paid $230 for. I would have considered it over priced at $80. I have never had a reason to return anything before, but this is going straight back.
I have always found L.L.Bean products to be of great quality and worth the money in the past. I hope this isn't a sign that they're lowering their standards.

This jacket was delivered after being on B/O. When it arrived, we unpacked it and
it had spots all over, don't know what it was but they looked like dark grease spots.
Very disappointing because my husband really wanted red. Took so long to get, was afraid
to have replacement sent in red, in case that had stains too. Reordered in black; nice jacket
but very basic.

As a loyal LLB lover ( now done ) of the past I have supported and enjoyed great quality customer service and fit. I tried replacing the seemingly "identical" down Jacket. First the fit, I am a Large always ...this thing is a sack... ill fitting over sized I could wear a HEAVY jacket under this jacket. 2ND... QUALITY - NOPE , THE DOWN in this jacket feels like less than 1/4 of my older identical jacket ( 850 ) this is more like a down sweater. There are MANY places there is no down at ALL: collar seams, corners joints and sleeve endings. Even the outer shell feels thinner and "plasticey" I will certainly return this and I wont be buying from this company until they stop misrepresenting and giving way less and charging way more..... a thin in fitting sack.... ( and the sales person even told me that it was warmer ! JOKE

I loved this jacket when it arrived. The design, the exterior materials, especially the zipper, and the fit were all perfect. I wore it on 3 five mile hikes in weather that varied in temp between 25-32 with a wind speed of 4-9 mph.The first time I wore it without another jacket and froze the entire way. The other two times I wore it as underlayment under my go-to windproof and waterproof fleece-lined jacket and froze the entire time.
I have 3 other down jackets that all contain less fill and I can stay warm in all of them in the type of early spring Michigan weather I described without other outerwear. In fact I wore each of them at various times this winter in below zero temps and blowing wind under the outerwear I described and was warm within 1/2 mile and stayed warm the rest of the way. One of the jackets is an old LL Bean down that is a minimum of 15 years old and the one I still turn to only on the coldest days. It's beat to death and constantly loses feathers, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Sadly, I returned my purchase.

The outside shell tore after just a few years of average use, and Bean won't repair the tear or replace the coat. Same thing happened to my daughter's 850 jacket. Neither of us beat up our jackets, the shell just tore. For a coat costing over $200, this is unacceptable. The outer shell is just not durable enough. I've been purchasing Bean stuff forever, but will now think twice.

My purchase of this jacket was a big disappointment to say the least the quality of this jacket does not come to what I expect from LL bean. The stuffing is finding it's way out of the inside of the left side of it the warmth of it is over stated it's NOT warm the sizing is not true I have worn XL for years and have had other coats and jackets in XL from LL Bean but I had to get an XXL in this jacket the price is outrages but I bought because of LL bean's reputation How can such a great company sell something made in Bangladesh and expect their loyal customers to think they are getting a quality product I have been a customer of LL Bean since 1968 and have always thought that LL bean only sold HIGH QUALITY products maybe I should lower my expectations.I will be returning the jacket at your Albany NY store.

The front chest pocket developed a hole after light use. I use that pocket only for light items. Now items fall through the hole into the lining, and it takes clever manipulation to fish them out. Disappointed that LLBEAN customer service thought this was "normal wear and tear" and does not qualify for a repair by them. I was told to fix it myself with a needle and thread. So much for 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I purchased an 850 jacket several years ago and it was of good quality. I recently purchased a second 850 jacket and the seams tear and the down feathers come out. I initially gave Bean the benefit of the doubt and used my wader repair kit to seal the tears. Not one week later, additional tears developed. Very disappointed and wasted my money on this jacket.

Great fit, nice length with longer kidney on rear of coat.
Good looking.
One issue , not enough down in coat.
At 25 degrees felt cold coming through arm
This replaced a coat from Beans over 25 years old.
Older coat has twice the down still today.
Can't we get back the MADE IN USA QUALITY.
styling is great, but doesn't do me any good in the woods in Winter
Coat better for someone in lower half of USA

Bought the coat in April of 2019 and it's already ripped at the seam. Maybe wore it for 3 months. I would pass on this one.

I purchased this item because it was guaranteed to keep me warm. Well, it did not. As one of my Christmas gifts, I used it in 45 degrees Fahrenheit temperature. The wind was about 5 mph. I used a 100% wool sweater on top of a turtle neck. My torso was cold. I simply could not keep warm. The positives were: light weight, easy to manage outer shell, perfect body fit. The main function of this puffer coat failed to keep me warm. I am returning this item asap.

Its not as warm as expected. It is also barely water resistant. It's a very loose term apparently. Water doesnt soak in immediately but it doesnt take long to penetrate the fabric. It's not what I expected at all given the brand and description. Wont make this mistake again.
