Wore jacket for 1 season and the seam under right arm busted open. Was surprised at the poor quality because my previous purchases from llbean lasted for years

The coat came, and I tried it on. It fit great and looked ok. It was about 30 degrees outside w/o wind, so I put the thing on and went out on the deck for about 10 minutes to see how it worked. Within 5 minutes, I was cold. The thing does not have much down in it, which shows. I have a Bean Mountain Classic vest, and it performs much better than this coat. Also, it appears to be very fragile and would not withstand much usage before falling apart. So I returned it. However, most LL Bean products aren't what they used to be, though that is not unique to Bean. I have a Baxter State or Game Warden (anyway, an old down parka with fur) LL Bean coat that is maybe 40 years old, and it is still my go-to when it is 0- outside; it's still in decent shape.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He is not the type to comment on things much. But he loves the jacket becasue: 1. It has a great zipper, 2. The pockets are deep, 3. The sleeves are long enough that they do not ride up when he has his hands on the steering wheel. Besides he looks handsome in it!

We bought this exact jacket 5 years ago. It was a favorite, but it was time for an upgrade. The new jacket pales in comparison to the previous. Much less fill, almost flat. Not nearly as warm. Could not be worn as a single jacket in cold weather. Seriously disappointed. Consider another jacket if you want a warm, down jacket.

Very comfortable, great fit, very light weight. Don't think it lives up to its -25F rating. I must wear insulating garments underneath on cold (20s), windy days. Thought it would be warm at 20F with a wind but not so.

- Not windproof (I live in Oklahoma) - Not useful in freezing temps unless wearing a sweatshirt underneath - Very fragile - Too expensive - Not a "jacket" (more like a liner) I really liked this jacket when it came in. It looks nice, fits well, and is very comfortable. I thought it would have more downtek filling than it actually has, but I wasn't disappoint about it. The next thing I noticed was how thin the outside fabric was, and I knew it would be a problem; so I was super careful whenever I wore it. Anything could easily rip or puncture this jacket, and something did. I don't know when or what did it, but it was the tiniest hole, the size of the end of a toothpick, and the downtek started coming through. I was able to push the small amount back in and seal the hole, but to have to do this to a "jacket" this price is absurd. I will only be using this as a liner, not a jacket, with an LL Bean water/windproof shell that I have. The combination of the two works very well for any winter weather.

It's a very nice jacket in every way but one. After a short time - weeks - the fabric cuff on the left sleeve started fraying simply because of my wrist watch - a basic Apple Watch. Very disappointing - since this could easily be avoided with a less delicate fabric. If you wear a watch, look at other options. Very unlike all the LL Bean products I have purchased in the past.

I own this same jacket and wanted to get one for my husband. I ordered the Tall XXL and it's too small. Definitely not a jacket for a broad shouldered man. Wish this came in a 3X!!!! Kinda disappointing that there aren't sizes for bigger guys. Gonna have to return it.

I asked for this jacket for christmas 2 years ago. It's more expensive than I'd personally want to spend on a jacket, but i figured i'd have it forever. About a month ago, I was standing near a fire pit and a small part of the shell melted. The shell is SO thin, standing too close to a fire pit or a heat lamp will cause it to lose integrity. tears have since opened up and the filling is spilling out. The material used on the exterior is just too thin to be durable. I've had to tape up the cuffs to slow down the filling loss. Until it started leaking, the jacket was comfy and extremely warm. I just wouldn't put my money on LL Bean's "high quality" anymore. LL Bean has refused to replace or repair it. I've offered to pay for the repairs and shipping. I will NOT be buying LL Bean again.

Ordered this to replace another jacket. Always have to mail order because tall sizing is not available in stores. Length in sleeves good. Length in body good. Too snug through armholes. Guess i'm between sizes. Would swim in XL. Also, company skimped on pockets. They only included 1 interior pocket instead of two. One can never have enough pockets, especially these. Not expensive to include in design...very low on detail. Returning jacket. Last, disappointed in color. Not as bright as shown online. Further, Bean's color choices the past several years have been very dull.

Jacket was a big disappointment. Remember the old ad "Where's the beef?" My question is where's the Down? I highly doubt this jacket will keep someone warm at 25 degrees F let alone -25F. Maybe if you are running the Boston Marathon. Made in Bangladesh. Way overpriced for what you get. Just wear the layers of clothing you would have to wear to keep warm in this and a rain jacket !

I bought this a year ago and wore it only a few times on the coldest days. It developed a tear in back just two weeks after the deadline to return it. The rip was clearly not caused anything external; it just wore out. Don't believe their description when they say "extra durability." It's too bad because the down quality is excellent until it starts leaking out. BTW, my previous down jacket lasted more than fifty years of hard usage.

It looked good and felt great -- excellent fit, seemed warm. Problem is that I received it maybe picked directly from a store (no wrapping) and the stitching was damaged on the left arm. It is a type of packable jacket that is not sturdy by design. But I could not keep a damaged product.

I have owned two LL Bean 850 Down jackets in the past 7 years. I like the light weight and wear them for everyday activities in cooler months. The problem with these jackets is their propensity to tear with the slightest brush against anything causing feathers everywhere. I have had to discard both jackets due to this problem in a 7 year period. I'm a long time LL Bean customer and am disappointed in the quality of this product. I spoke with LL Bean about this and they were unwilling to offer any form of discount toward a different jacket. If you decide to purchase be very careful not to brush up against anything to avoid ruining the jacket.

Although I like the fit of the jacket, I am disappointed in the quality of the craftsmanship. The feathers are sticking out in several places on the jacket. They are sticking out at the seams and just through the material itself. Every day a new location has a feather coming out of the filling.

Looks great! However, as I was trying it on it ripped, so I'll be sending it back. Not the kind of quality I'm used to from LL Bean.

This is a VERY light jacket. I am really surprised they put this in the "warmer" category. It has very little down fill and I do not think it will keep me warm in the NJ winters. This seems more like a spring/fall light jacket. For the price ($250) I feel it should have twice the down fill. I will be returning this item.

I just broke this jacket out recently and have taken dog sout in the snow a few times. Each time the jacket soaked all the way through to my underlayer. Not remotely waterproof. Totally unhappy with this purchase and I have A LOT of LL bean gear

I previously had two of these coats purchased a few years apart. It was time for a new one but this time they cheapened up the design. These are not as puffy and warm as they were previously and the stitching on the arm cuffs was loose. Bring back the old quality.

Super light weight and still provides lots of warmth! But if it gets snagged, it can easily get a rip in it and the down comes popping out.

This is advertised as a warmer jacket great for all sorts of outdoor activities in the winter. It's junk barely warmer than a windbreaker. This is deceptive advertising steer clear of this jacket (probably true for all LL Bean products).
