Six months of sporadic wear and a seam is open on the toe guard and the gorte-tex has failed on both shoes. Solomon use to make a quality product, but my last two pair have fell very short of the mark

Why did you update from the x ultra 3? These are just plain ugly and don't feel as good. the move to the new version was not a good one. I will be searching for another pair of the x ultra 3

The first pair of shoes that reach to and bangs my ankles. They look strong build otherwise. I agree with others that the Ultra 3 was a more mature product.

I bought the new X Ultra 4 after having owned the X Ultra 3 previously. While I love the design and look of the new shoe, Salomon did a terrible job with the design of the tongue and lacing system. With the previous v3 I could pull on the QuickLace and stow the lace pull tab under the housing pocket in the tongue. But with the new v4 the tongue is too short and the lacing system cuts off the stowage pocket at the top of the tongue and you cannot stow-away the lace pull tab. This is really very annoying and makes the shoe unusable.

The X Ultra 3 GTX were my favorite trail shoes. You took that design and destroyed it. Now I need to find a new brand of shoe. These are terribly uncomfortable and they're just as ugly as they are uncomfortable.

Unfortunately all the benefits of the sole of this shoe are wasted by a loose upper that does not hold and stabilize the foot..

I'm not sure what is happening with Salomon shoes but the last 3 pairs I ordered were uncomfortable from the first moment I tried them on.

Brand new shoes were faulty on arrival, arch where upper shoe meets sole distorted badly. This was going to be my second pair a replacement for a previous pair which were very good.

I am disappointed in these shoes. I purchased them to replace an older pair of the X Ultra gore-tex, and found that although the labeled sizes were identical, the newer model was a much tighter fit, to the point that a shoe horn was necessary to get them on. This is not due to stretching of the older shoes, as when new they could easily be slipped on. This experience is similar to a prior replacement of XA Pro shoes, wherein the newer model was so tight I had to significantly modify the lacing (by cutting off 2 attachment points) in order to get them on. I don't understand why this seems to be a repetitive problem!

I love the Solomon brand, I have many shoes from them, I've had several pairs of the X ultra. My last pair was a few years old before they started coming apart, but Solomon changed the fabric inside the shoe, and I have had these for just a couple weeks and there is a hole where my achilles tendon touches the inside back of the shoe. The fabric is not as good a quality as previous shoes and has separated from the other part of the lining on the stitch line.

This is my third X Ultra. This one is as comfortable as the others. The issue I am having is with the design of the tongue. In previous models the tongue was sawn up to the top and wouldn't push in when putting on the shoe. With this one the tongue is only attached on the bottom. This makes putting on the shoe awkward. While slipping into the shoe the tongue is pushed in every time and has to be pulled out again. This is really awkward while trying to hold on to the heel loop and trying to hold/pull the tongue in place. One needs to sit to put the show on.

I own a pair of X Ultra 3 and it is deteriorating so I bought this pair of X Ultra 4. But the 4's didn't fit very well, my left pinky toe was rubbing against something on the outer side of the inside of the shoe. The shoe size was the same as my previous pair. Either my feet have changed (which is possible), or the pair I tried on wasn't a good fit for my feet, but overall I'm dissatisfied. But I really wanted to like them!!

The cuffs around the ankle are designed too high. The cuffs are also too stiff. Resulting in pain to my ankle with every step. Salomon - you've got to redesign these to make them fit.
Additionally, I see no use for the wider lace strap on the lateral side. Seems like a gimmick. If it's about style, it only makes it look worse.

I'm a longtime Salomon X-Ultra fan having worn different pairs almost daily on walks and hikes for almost 10 years from two pair of X-Ultra 2s, a pair of X-Ultra 3s which I am wearing as I type this, and now the X-Ultra 4, which are unfortunately really pretty terrible. I LOVE my X-Ultra 3s. But the 4s suck for me. They hurt my feet, they rub and slip, they're loose in the heel and if I tighten the laces to try to prevent slipping, the bridge of my foot hurts from the laces being too tight. I bought them .5 size bigger than my street shoes because I wear them on long hikes. The 4s I have are the same size as the other three pair of X-Ultras I've had and love. The shoes look great, but they feel clunky wearing them and I've unfortunately written them off as not wearable. I've also become leery of purchasing any Salomon shoe now because of this experience. Can we please have the 3s back??

Bought a pair of these from a reputable retailer and wore to work, in retail flat floors etc. To help break them in before my holiday in 3 days. After 1 day the tongue just ripped out of them. Thought paying fairly dear for a shoe that the quality would've been alot higher than this, there no way it could've been wear and tear as it ripped from the inside of the shoe. Wouldn't recommend to anybody

I've had numerous Solomons and it worked out perfect wear is great however these Solomons caused blisters in the back of my heels so I would not recommend them. The colour lining wore prematurely all the rest of the shoe is great fantastic!

Left foot fit perfectly. Right foot to tight across knuckle of right big toe. Binds pulls tight. Very painful. Couldn't take more than a few steps without increasing pain. Returned for a different pair that fit better. Although they have a slight pull as well. But they are better. I really like Salomon shoes was disappointed in the fit of the x ultra.

I have owned dozens of pairs of the OLDER model of this shoe (X Ultra Gore-Tex). It is the only shoe I have wore for 12 years. The only problems I have had is occasionally one of the eyelets would tear after some use. I have purchased 2 pairs of the new version (X Ultra 4 Gore-Tex). The first pair in size 13 which I always wore in the previous model. The heal was slipping and the fabric wore out and pealed on the inside heal causing blisters after 2 weeks and could not wear them any more. I thought Salomon changed the sizing so I bought a second pair in 12 1/2 hoping this would resolve the issue. Same problem heal slipping causing blisters. Material in heal has not worn or pealed but can't wear the shoe. 2 basically new pairs of shoes I can't wear. Salomon should have not made modifications to this shoe. I ended up purchasing the Salomon X Ultra Pioneer Water proof in size 13 which uses Salomon's membrane version of Gore - Tex. They are basically the same as the older model X Ultra Gore Tex but with a traditional lacing system. Not sure at this point if Salomon's waterproof membrane will be as good as Gore-Tex. It's To bad too, as I liked the quick pull lace system. Further, Salomon online sizing recommendations are wrong I measured my foot as they direct said I was a 10 1/2. I've always worn a 13 in their shoes. The X Ultra 4 they suggest you order a size up from your regular Salomon fit. I personally would suggest the opposite. I am a letter carrier for the post and do allot of walking in all conditions. Currently I remain loyal to Salomon however I wish they would not continue to make all the small changes to their shoes as in my case they were not improvements. At this point I have not tried to make a warranty claim with Salomon. See photographs attached.

I have been using the Ultra line since 2011. This model has a design flaw that creates a crease along the arch of the foot. It cuts through the skin rendering it impossible to walk in. The fabric has changed, and the footbed is narrower. It is a different Salomon product. Not an Ultra.
I wish the Ultra 3 was still in circulation. I would have bought it again. I am not using my 2016 Ultra 3.

Disappointing. I was hoping these would be a low rise version of my Quest 4's which I love. Not so, the toe box is cramped, even with a thin sock. I tried a 1/2 size up but they flopped around like bozo the clown's shoes. the speed lacing lacks the ability to lace lock. the slip-on feature is convenient, just not supportive and they hurt my feet

I bought these a couple of months ago and have done my very best to make them work. The quicklace system pulls them so tight over my foot that I took the laces out of the lowest loops to relieve the pressure. It did not work. These are the most expensive and most uncomfortable shoes I ever bought. I have tried everything to make the fit work. I have walked miles in agony hoping they would break in. No success. I've given up. A huge wate of money and I will bever bother with any reviews again or buy online. I wish I could make the review 0 stars, not even 1. So sad and so disappointed.
The best walking shoes I ever had were made by Bates but I walked them broken in 6 months.
