Bought in July 22. I walk about 8k steps per day, and not always in these shoes, so I'm not a high-miler. They're very comfortable, but 10 months on and the soles are bald and worse, the inside lining at the Achilles has worn through and both shoes have several holes in the uppers where normal flexing has worn the fabric thin. I expect even cheap shoes to last at least one year, and these aren't cheap!

I was just going to buy these after my 3s are starting to wear out. The previous version are absolutely fantastic, but after seeing these reviews I tried them on.
I don't like the styling much, but the real problem is the comfort. The previous ones are light, springy and supremely comfortable. These feel heavier, stiffer, not springy, the mid and rear are too narrow and the toe box creases over my feet and feels painful.
How Salomon has gone from creating a shoe I absolutely love to this pile of junk is unfathomable.
Just go back to the previous version and improve it a bit. these are terrible in comparison.

After a few months the heel is virtually worn out. The boots look shabby and wear out too quick. The laces are useless and keep coming undone after 5 minutes.

I have owned 4 pairs of Salomon hiking shoes. They are fantasticexcept now they've changed. The design of the center of the shoe has been replaced with an elastic connector. And the tongue is too short for an effective location for the end of the speed laces. The design is no longer one that I would choose.

I had tried several sizes to ensure I had the correct size, but still, no matter how tight I tied them, my heel slips out each time I take a step. The heels simply do not grab hold of your feet. These shoes are hard, plastic, and uncomfortable. I am so disappointed by these shoes. They don't stay on and they hurt your feet. Don't buy them.

The fore foot material started to peel off within a week. Is this really Solomon or some rip-off junk

First of all, I have worn nothing but Salomon hiking shoes for the past 5 years, racking a respectable amount of miles in both my old Salomon X ultra leather/gtex (2020) and in my 4D Quest. They were both so comfortable that you forgot you were wearing hiking boots. But they wore out and I needed a new pair. But it never stops to surprise me how the shoe companies change their models. I thought I was buying essentially the same shoe as in 2020, but these were the opposite of comfortable. When the foot and shoe flexes on push-off -phase, the top material flexes sharply and presses on top of the toes on every step. The material on top of the shoe is just too crinkly and inflexible to allow a smooth motion. I walked a mile to take my kid to school and couldn't wait to take them off. I can't imagine putting them on ever again. Also, just goes to show, that when you find a great pair of shoes, buy another pair soon as they probably go and change something up. It's disappointing as I don't like to change the shoe brands when I find what works.

I've had these in blue for about 8 months now. I've had two pairs of the previous version which have been fantastic. Unfortunately these are not. They're waterproof and comfortable. Except the left one where the tongue slips down the side of my foot because it's not made properly. Which quickly becomes uncomfortable.
The tongues are the main flaw in these. They are not attached in the same way as previous designs and therefore are quite irritating. I could put up with that though, if it wasn't for the left one being faulty.
They do look a lot better than the previous versions though and good choice of colours.
For the money I expected better.

I have bought many pairs of X Ultra gorged, for family and myself but the XUltra 4 is by far the worst. The last two pairs ( yes I gave them a second chance) have not only fallen apart but were uncomfortable from day one. Too narrow, the tongue has changed negatively and the sole wears like butter, gone in three months. To be fair, my last pair was refunded, as I could not walk in them. Generally I feel this is a good company, having used them for years, but Ibam now wearing beautiful Mammut walking shoes, which are better in every sense.

Really disappointed with the quality of these shoes. Fabric in the heel has come apart and make the shoes uncomfortable. I've had more than a dozen pairs of Salomon shoes and never had this happen.

I echo other reviews about the ultra 4 is a disappointment when compared to the 3. I also agree with the 4 being too narrow. I can't wear the 4's due to the tightness of the shoe at the toes. You lost a very loyal customer.

Really uncomfortable until they are worn in but the soles wear away really quickly. I have only had mine since June and they are already worn out

Had a few pair of the previous Ultra X 3 GTX Goretex in the past and purchased the new X Ultra 4 Goretex equivalent. Firstly they are nowhere near as nice looking or fit for purpose as previous X3s.
Secondly which is obviously more important is how they feel. Very disappointing feel. The old X3 felt like they were light and as if part of your body. These new X4s feel like a cheaper inferior shoe which you are very aware of with every step. Like riding a new bike before you get the seat the right height. I'm afraid I'm wearing my old X3s again which the sole is now almost through (no complaints as they are still feeling great). Please bring out X5s as a rebranded X3. Ill be waiting to purchase them.

I owned about 10 pair of the X Ultra 3 Wide Gore-Tex shoes because I am an avid hiker. The X Ultra 3 is discontinued, so I tried a pair of the X Ultra 4 shoes. There is no comparison between the two. While the chassis may fit similar, the uppers leave much to be desired. There is one fewer set of eyelets, the heel tongue is stupidly long, and the tongue is too short to tuck the excess shoelace into the storage pocket. I was unable to wear the shoe a few steps without pain.

I have owned three pair of ultra X shoes, the predecessor to the ultra 4X. Not nearly as good as its predecessor. It's hard to put on as its tongue slips down as you can see in other reviews. In addition, the extra lip on the back requires one to use a shoehorn to slip it on. Perfect example of too much innovation. I could not be more disappointed. I would never buy this shoe again go back to the original and I'll buy it again. The ultra X was a great shoe. The ultra 4X is it innovation gone wrong.

Just bought a pair of these and having read the reviews they are going straight back. I won't buy Salomon's again. Not because of the shoes, but by the way customer services have replied to all comments with stock answers they clearly don't care

I bought these to replace my first Salomons, the Ultra 3 GTX, that had been fantastic for 3 years on daily use and rough terrain. However even after 12 months seasonal use only and much lighter work than the 3's, the cloth upper areas have ripped as well as some of the rubber joins, compromising the water seal, after only a year. Now having to replace already and having looked back to see there aren't any new/better designed shoes released, I will be looking to go elsewhere.

Got these for Christmas have worn them a day and a half and I think my feet are permanently damaged. I have never been in so much pain from wearing crap footwear. Not comfortable at all, crushes your feet and breaks your toes. On top of it there is absolutely no warmth inside these shoes its as if you are wearing a hard plastic casing with cold air vents for a shoe.

I've Salomon shoes for years and my last pair before these were the X Ultra 3gtx and we're brilliant.. myself and my son renewed to the X U look tra 4gtx and what a disaster... Mine were SO uncomfortable I couldn't wear them and my son had to replace and return them twice because the back heel lining came away after just a few weeks light wear..
These are now made very cheaply in Vietnam and they are rubbish..
Shame on you Salomon for compromising a once great shoe, and your reputation just to pursue bigger profits by using cheap labour.!
DON'T BUY THESE...!!!

Bought 2 months ago and they leak. I've waterproof sprayed which helped alittle, but they should be waterproof esp if branded as gortex!
Also not as padded or comfortable as the x ultra
Uttley rubbish.
