I've been wearing xultra shoes since 2003. They were amazing right from the first pair put on. All day comfort, good grip and waterproof. I would wear each pair until they fell apart which would take a good 2-3 years of daily use. My last pair of xultra died last year and I haven't been encountered to replace them with the latest version after reading the negative reviews. Salomon please bring back the xultra of old as my feet miss them. I do still have 4 other pairs of salomon trail running shoes but the xultra gtx were always my first choice everyday shoe. My rating for the old shoes would be 5

These shoes look great but they have left me extremely disappointed. I have had 3 pairs, which have all been replaced due to the inner heals wearing out in between 2-4months each time. The last pair gave me blisters on heels anything over 2 miles. There is a massive problem with the heel design/quality of heel materials in these shoes which needs addressing. I have given up with these shoes and am now trying a different salomon product as my replacement. I had the ultra 3 gtx for 2 years and i wore these daily and i wore the soles bald before the shoes integrity failed. Bring back the quality of the ultra3 gtx! I would however note that customer services is excellent and my warranty replacement on all 3 occasions has been very quickly dealt with. Unfortunately without the quality i am very unlikely to buy anything else.

Bought these in June 2022, worn a few times and now the rubber toe-cap is detaching from the upper. Only walked approx 90miles. Poor construction, will not now wear them in the wet, which is why I purchased them.

I have used Salomon ultra 3 for years and found them the best comfortable hiking shoe in the market. I never looked for a different brand as they were so comfortable. I bought the ultra 4 expecting the same comfort but was shocked to find hoe uncomfortable they are. What ever have you done to the fit???? Terribly uncomfortable. Will have to look at other makes now after years of using Salomon. Bring back X Ultra 3 please.

Having had all three previous iterations of this shoe, the new Ultra 4 is awful. They have changed the curve of the shoe around your ankle and now it rubs on the bottom of your ankle bone. The instep just feels too aggressive as well. Amazing how a company can take a good product and make it rubbish. Just look at all the poor reviews from everyone who had previous versions. Sort it out Salomon!

The tread design is really good and gives you great grip, the lacing system is wonderful but man these things destroy your heels. I had to send my last pair of gortex shoes from salomon back and I would again if they'd take them but I'm sure I've put too many miles on them now. I just don't understand how they can make these shoes so destructive on your foot. I even wear some of the best cushioned socks on the market and they still just destroy my feet. I never had issues like this with competitor brands of gortex shoes and I just feel like I totally lost trying this brand out. I'm an avid hiker and moderate mountain climber that always travels with 25+ lbs.

I have worn the X Ultras for years in various terrain and even competed in adventure races in them. I wanted to like the 4's but ever since wearing them, I've developed plantar fasciitis and can no longer wear them. I will need to move on to another brand.

I've bought it a three month ago and totally disappointed - the quality of the shoes (the thickness of materials) is unacceptable, also, the internal membrane Is moving outside when you try to take off the shoes previous model was excellent and materials was far better - looks like this one will not last longer than one season at all don't recommend . Save your money

I've had 3 pairs of Salomon walking walking shoes over the last 10 years. The first pair were awesome and lasted me 6 years (I still actually use them for gardening). The next pair lasted about a year before they developed a split in the upper. They were replaced under warranty but the replacement pair split at the heel and caused blisters after 14 months. The fundamental problem (and this to some extent was true of the second pair) was that the cinch laces are just way too short causing excess pressure on the heel when getting your foot in. I looked on the website and found that this was a common complaint in the reviews. I then bought a really cheap pair to tide me over which actually lasted twice as long as my previous Saloman shoes. As Salomon's response to poor reviews has always been that they take feedback seriously and improve their products accordingly so I thought that given this was a relatively new model they may well have taken the difficult decision to invest the extra 2 cents in longer laces so took the plunge and bought these. How they have actually managed to make them worse is a mystery. The laces are certainly no longer than in the previous version, however, the addition of the pointless soft projection at the back does (as other reviewers have mentioned) make it far more difficult to get your feet in. Needless to say they are going back. Clearly Salomon don't listen to feedback so I doubt that this will have any imact.

Smaller than the size UK size 9, EU size 43 they claim to be, quite painful to wear, thought they might give a bit but not enough! And after 6 months the upper has failed and they leak.

The soles are much softer than previous versions - mine have bottomed out after 3 months of moderate use. I still have 2 old pairs of X ULTRA 3 GTX that are now years old and still more usable than the latest ones. I love the fit and performance of the shoe, but they seriously need to last longer for the price. I've also noticed that the insoles are not as robust as previous versions which adds to the issue.

I've had three pair of these over the past few years and if your looking for a shoe to last more then a year with everyday use look somewhere else. These shoes continue to split at the seams over and over again right near toe. After about a year expect them to break down and open at the insides and eventually the outsides too. I buy mine because they're goretex and quick tie but with the expectation of 1 yr of use and then they're expensive grass cutting shoes. They used to have a much better warranty on them also and now they have a 1 yr warranty last I checked with customer service.

I bought 2 pairs X Ultra 3 gore Tex. Obviously the X Ultra 4 is not great, I'll switch to a different brand until they fix this. Amazing they had a great shoe in the X Ultra 3 and chose to change it.

I've had 3 previous pairs of Salomon GTX and but Salomon have clearly cut corners. They have removed a set of eyes for the laces(to save money) which means they just don't fit well at all when tightened. Very poor all round fit. Nothing like old ones. I'm sending mine back. So many reviewers say the same.

I have a dozen pairs of shoes - dress shoes, Vans, trail runners, etc. These are the only shoes that literally bruise my foot! I tried getting Salomon to allow me to trade them for something different, but they refused to help.

Long term buyer of X Ultra 3 and disappointed when they were discontinued. Bought the new X Ultra 4 at a premium price in comparison to the 3. Initially excellent, comfortable and waterproof. After approx 3 months, the heels have work significantly and one sole has cracked and the boot is porous. Very disappointed and following up with Wiggle on Salomon's warranty. The X Ultra 4 is inferior to it's predecessor.

I have been wearing the Salomon Ultra daily for years now. My old ones were getting very worn so I ordered the new X Ultra 4 GTX. The fit is terrible. I cannnot believe that they have actually built these as a product. The originals fit is so comfortable. These X uUtra 4 caused my feet to go numb after 10 minutes. Very narrow and the arch is in the wrong position. I have been using Salomon for years now. The new Quest 4 and Mid fit fine but something is fundamentally wrong with the new design of the shoes. I have now gone with Scarpa and Keen which are great replacements. Come on Salomon, have a word with the designers and go back to the old comfortable design before you l all your customers change to other brands. Such a shame. Gutted.

Warning! Do not waste your money. Had to put one star as I couldn't put 0 stars. Worn and used over a maximum 6 week and covered max of 180 miles and the tread on the soles has worn smooth on balls of feet and heels. Thought I was investing in a quality product and brand but how wrong I was. Don't be fooled by the company's warranty as it is just lip service and they don't give a toot!

People, don't buy these shoes ! I have 3x pairs of Ultra Gtx 3 and they are fantastic ! Purchased these and within 30 minutes of walking I have nice blisters on the back of my heels, absolutely terrible heel cup, totally not supported or designed correctly, how could you have got it so bad from the previous version ? Since I've used them for 30 minutes, store is failing to do anything about it. Avoid at all cost, utter garbage!!

Shoe companies love to update models every 12-18 months but they often make them worse. This is an example. Very poor fit and way too flexible for a hiking shoe compared to the X Ultra 3. Definitely off my short list. The prior version was super comfortable and protective and "barely there". This version is a floppy mess. Oh - but they look better. I guess that's nice, if you're just taking photos? I purchase a lot of Salomon gear but this shoes makes me want to stop.

Bought these shoes in for Spring. Love at first sight. However by summer the tread was worn out and the shoes literally are falling apart. I've never ever had a pair of shoes break down so quickly. I'm typically the guy that has shoes for 10 years and my wife is throwing them out. It's hard to get Salomon shoes in my size or I'd try a different style but these have just not lasted. I had real high hopes for them and they have not met it at all.

Bought these today and was very disappointed. The plastic piece added to the shoe (ADV/C) is beyond tight and even while the shoe fully loosened cause significant discomfort. Stick with ultra 3's.

The lace broke faster than regular laces. The repair kit is terrible: the loops are too small to easily allow the nylon lace to pass through, the plastic tube to help put in the new lace is way too large for the loops, and if you do manage to get the laces in, the two closure pieces are too small to allow knots in the laces and fit together over them. I'm surprised Salomon can't do better!

I have been buying the previous generation since they came out. Was excited to try this one. But it been terrible. There isn't enough cushion anywhere in the shoe. You feel the sides and even the tongue digging in to you feet all day. Wish I could trade back to Salomon for a Gen 3.
