Very comfortable shoes. They give ankle support but it's not stiff. It almost feels like you're hiking with trail runners but have that extra support for your ankle as well when going on uneven terrain.

First I must say Salomon footwear fits me well, from ski boots to trail running shoes, their fit is on point. I got these for a family vacation in Glacier National park. I did a light break in before the trip maybe 20 miles over a month. We hiked over 55 miles in a week at Glacier and the X Ultra's exceeded my expectations, comfort, stability and durability. I was the only one on the trip who did not get blisters or complain of foot pain. Well done Salomon!

Used this boot for the first time in a short 45-minute hike to test to them and the performance was excellent. No pinch points and very comfortable throughout. Also, no break in period required. I am very very satisfied with this purchase.

Didn't need to be broken-in. Wore them on several mountain hikes with a lot of elevation gain and they worked great. Nice traction, comfortable and fit well

Bought a pair of these in May but thought I'd wait until I used them on some proper walks and rough terrain before reviewing and I can confirm that they are the most comfortable boots I've ever had. I had previously bought a pair of Ultra 3 GTX which I've had for 4 years but when I got them I 'made do' with them being half a size too big as that's all I could get,or so I thought having feet the size of a pony! Anyway the new ones came, right size for me, look brilliant too. Took, I'd say,10 miles to completely wear in but now ive been hiking the lake district in them and they are like slippers. I've not walked through any streams yet so can't fully comment on how waterproof they are but I've walked through some pretty wet fields and so far no wet socks. I would definitely recommend them, in fact I have, to friends, and they are equally as happy as me. Massive thumbs up Salomon.

I've had these since launch now and whilst I don't normally post reviews, I saw these were getting alot of flack and thought I'd come to their defence. Personally, these shoes are incredible. Comfort straight out the box, no break in needed. Lightweight, excellent support, protection, fit, I have had literally zero issues with them. Aesthetically they not be to everyone's taste and I admit I wasn't keen on them at first, but they are practically a fantastic boot and I can't fault them.

I bought these boots to replace my older versions that I just retired after 5 years and could not be happier with these new ones! I don't like thick heavy boots but need a good everyday waterproof boot for life in the Pacific Northwest. These are perfect! Light weight, flexible and most important comfortable while still being extremely durable! I'm so happy with these, I'm buying a second pair for now for hiking & hunting and will buy another pair for my oldest son! great traction and no pinch or bad break in at the toe box, just perfect boots! Thank you!

This are very lightweight, supportive, and most importantly comfortable. I do like to break in my boots around the house before I hike, and the outside middle of my foot did get sore from pressure on the side, but it may the way my feet are shaped. My feet are narrow and I got a size 12, which fit as expected with any socks. I like these better for the casual hiker who wants a less rigid sole. These almost feel like a high top basketball shoe they are so comfortable, but the materials and sole are perfect for any terrain.

I have normal to slightly wide feet, so the Ultra 3's were a no go as they run quite narrow. Luckily, the Ultra 4's do not fit narrow and have more of a regular width. I first tried the Ultra 4 shoes, but returned them as they have an issue with digging into my ankles (appears to be a common issue with many other reviewers), so I tried the Ultra 4 Mid's to see if the higher ankle would eliminate that issue. And it did! I took these out for the first time today for a day hike in the AB Rockies. They fit great out of the box, no need to break them in. They are very light, way lighter than my last pair of hiking shoes that were a different brand. They have great support and stability for the foot/ankle. The cushioning is good against rocks and roots on the trails. The Gore-Tex worked like a charm to keep my feet 100% dry crossing streams. This was worth the trade off of them running a bit warmer as is the case for all Gore-Tex, but my feet never got too hot or uncomfortable. Also, I was fortunate to not run into any of the issues other reviewers noted. Overall, these boots are both comfortable and perform well! I'm hopeful they will last for years to come, guess time will tell.

I just received a pair of X ULTRA 3 MID GTX and what a superior fit. These boots are not even broken in yet and the feel is wonderful. Very light weight. They support my flat feet without inserts. I am extremely pleased.Thank you SALOMON.

I've owned x ultra 2 and 3 editions, and now the x ultra 4. What a great shoe. I couldn't imagine how to make these any better, but Salomon somehow did. This fourth edition is lighter and cooler than previous eds. As is par for the course, no break-in time is required, and no foot fatigue comes at the end of the day. All in all, if you've worn previous x Ultras, you'll like this new edition. If you've never worn these, imagine a hiking boot that feels like a shoe, grips like a cleat, and keeps your feet dry. Worth every penny.

I researched for quite a while to decide what boot I wanted to get. I even thought of getting the Quest 4D, but thought that would be overkill for my style of hiking. One thing I discovered is that Salomon is one of the only manufacturers that has size 12.5 (US). This surprises me since I wear a 12.5 and it never occurred to me that it would be a problem. I digress! Great shoe! I thought it was a little tight in the width, but it stretched just enough to make it comfortable. Time will tell on durability... Overall a very well-made boot!

I normally wear a 10.5 W but these shoes were only available in standard width. The ended up fitting perfectly including SuperFeet inserts. They are very comfortable and the the color is great. Took them on my first 3 hour hike (with no break-in) and they provide firm/comfortable support and my feet did not get sore at all. I highly recommend this shoe.
I'd also recommend:

out of the box hiked in the dessert 10 miles -- needed a little break in but feel great -- the key is the socks and lift your feet not like some reviews on worn sole-- for off road --trails -- in sept doing rim to rim at 67 years young --usmc -- people you will not find a better boot to hike in off road. i wear a 10 1/2 wide or 11 reg. I bought 11 wide great fit with hiking socks that are guaranteed not to give you blisters. but go with the wide . and people stop b----ing because you did not research .!!! go and enjoy the out doors

Lightweight trail shoe with a mid height, waterproof, very comfortable, perfect fit. Good improvement from the Ultra 3. Easy to slip on and off, proper laces. I can walk with them open it it's hot the fit is so good. Salomon, please don't mess with the Ultra 4 Mid, please don't change the laces to quick laces, please don't change the fit, these shoes are perfect. If you made an Ultra 4 Mid Non-Goretex summer shoe with breathable mesh I'd buy those too.
