If you like the x ultra 3 you'll love these. I love the crosshike but going back to the x ultra was a good choice. Great boot and well done salomon for maintaining all the best parts of the x ultra 3 and just making them feel better. They'll go nicely alongside my speedcross, crosshike and x ultra 3 winter boots. On a more technical note. Good grip, v comfortable, v waterproof and quite unbelievably breathable.

Great fit right out of the box. I've had almost every previous variation of these shoes and this one is the best yet. Great work to all involved in this latest iteration.
These have become my daily shoes. Rain of shine. My feet are happy and dry.

I received the X ULTRA 4 MID GORE-TEX in February. It is a well crafted sturdy shoe providing comfort going up and down hills. Its Orthodox cushion adds comfort while hiking. I really like the trail running sole and its light weight and sturdiness, which allows me to attack hills with a swift pace. Like other Salomon shoes, they run at a bigger half size. So if you commonly wear a size 10, then go to a 9 1/2.

Bought these last week and have already put them to the test. Took them through multiple hikes of 5+ miles through snow, slush, and mud. It's everything you've come to expect from the X Ultra line in terms of waterproofing keeping my feet dry, but the toe box is bigger! It is seriously so much more comfortable and I'm not sure how much lighter it actually is than the 3, but it feels lighter! Have never had a pair of hiking shoes so comfortable!

Excellent shoe. I had a similar pair of these that lasted over 10 years.

-- The sole is aggressive, good for traction. -- The sole is rather thin, not good for longevity before it wears out. --- The Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid is better for the six warmer months. It is not for cold weather. -- The boot is just slightly on the narrow side, if your foot is slightly wide or you like to wear heavyweight socks it may not work for you. -- I cannot attest to durability, I've worn it for one month. -- The upper eyelets are metal and appear durable. -- Overall comfortable with almost no break-in period.

It is not very comfortable as an everyday walking shoe, but it is worth it.

Purchased on sale a few weeks ago. I've been stomping around for a bit. I have a pair of quest mids going strong 7 years. And they are awesome. These ultras run a little long. Maybe a half size or so by direct comparison with the other Salomon sneakers and boots I have. I don't know for sure until they are broken in and I log a long hike but they feel nice enough. I Always buy sale colors and these ones I would buy again over all black.

Love these shoes but this pair is killing my ankles. Right above the ankle bone the top of the shoes love to jam right into the ankle at sone angle as my foot steps. I hope after a few more hikes it loosens up and goes away.

I just finished a 20-mile day hike yesterday, and these did great! I've only had them for a month and maybe put 5 miles on them to break them in, but that proved to be enough. No blisters! Toe box was a little too small at first, but that issue went away after a few days of wear. Haven't had a chance to test the Gore-Tex feature, but I know from prior experience to trust anything Gore-Tex. My only complaint is the black tab on the outside is fairly uncomfortable and hard against the outside middle part of my foot, and there is no way to mitigate this issue since it also serves as a loop for the laces.
Would I buy these again? Eeehhhhh, probably not. I think there are better boots here, but I am happy with them.

I purchased these for work, as I walk several miles every day over a variety of terrain (swamp, agricultural fields, forests, and gravel roads). 2 weeks in and I'm in love with the waterproof, lightweight, and overall construction of this shoe,/boot. Having had multiple pairs of Solomon trail running shoes, over the years, I was not expecting them to run a little long / larger than normal sizing. Width is good.

At first I thought I should have ordered a size up from my normal size because I felt like I was busting out of them, but as you break the boots in they actually fit very nicely. I used these to walk a few moderate trails while carrying a half loaded pack and I was pleasantly surprised at how little you feel the rocks and roots etc. with these boots. The sole is very solid and offers awesome protection and stability and the waterproofing far surpassed my expectations, my feet stayed dry and perfectly warm every time.
One thing I will say is these things have absolutely 0 traction when it comes to ice, I fell on my tookis 4 separate times the first time I took these boots out, and I'm convinced that if you weren't careful you could slip standing still on ice with these, even if the ice is roughed up it's nearly frictionless with these boots.

Unfortunately, these boots didn't quite hold up to being used as work boots. Fortunately though, for the amount of time they held up, they were extremely comfortable!

Title phrase + very comfortable. Love the Gore-Tex for hiking in slush and snow.
Need to try a long hike with a 25 lb pack to really test.

They look good, they're durable, and do the job they were made for except one thing really keeps these from being a complete standout. The insole they come with is as thin as cheap toilet paper and leaves you feeling like you're standing on a concrete slab. I did not enjoy having to purchase separate insoles for shoes I already paid a decent price for.

Better fit for my problem foot, with more space for thicker socks in winter. Orange strip at the back is an acquired taste, I will probably tone it down once the warranty is up. Zero insulation on winter days, thick socks are a must.

I've been wearing these all day for the last 3 weeks, after trading up up a 1/2 size. The foot box is perfect. I find the ankle fit uncomfortable still, as the build is quite stiff there (probably appropriate for a mid cut boot). With an all leather boot, I would just get them soaked and let them mold to my bony ankles sooner.

I bought these boots for my son. He is going on a ski trip and needed some good boots. They ran a little large even with thick wool socks but he says they will be fine so I will post again after he wears them at the end of January. They are very light weight and he says they feel warm for sure.

I haven't gotten to us them very hard yet but so far I'm very happy with them. Once I put in my own inserts they are very comfortable and they run narrow so I had to get the mid with ones. I usually get regular withdrawal but had to go with the mods on these.

I've used this boot and it's previous versions for several years. Overall satisfied specially if you get it at a discounted price. Although the previous versions were a better fit, (due to it's raised back) this one is not too far behind. The size can be tricky depending on where you buy it from. Store vs Website so make sure to check the measurements (Store US 10 vs Website US 9.5). The Gore-Tex works good but makes it a little stiff so could take sometime to break in.
